Hi.. I was expecting to see the comparison of the pellet pics taken before and after the polishing procedure, did you happen to release them? Tnx.

For the final polishing while spinning the barrel , shouldn't the barrel done twice ? Second time the barrel should be turned end for end so that both sides of the lands are addressed ? If you ran the chuck in reverse of the first spinning the bush could thread off and cause damage . Just my 2 cents .... Ernest have you considered fire lapping with slugs impregnated with powder type compounds ?

Could you please upload videos on FX Streamline. How to remove the air cylinder and trigger. Thanks for the wonderful videos

Nice Guy! thought I was the only one who did the spin polish. LOL! My theory was it could break the very sharp edged of the rifling resulting in a slightly rounded corners similar to a BSA BBL. Turns out, it works our extremely well, and really cuts down on leading. Especially in the Big Bores shooting Bullets rather than lead. The Big Bore bullets have much grater contact with the bore, with the added issue of many bullet being cast with Tin. The polishing does a fantastic job in increasing shot count between cleanings on them. (Big Bore Barrels) My personal .257 went from apx. 25 shots before cleaning to well over 250! Woo-Hoo!!! The only thing I do differently is reverse the spin, to break the corners on the other side of the lands as well. Been using the 3M abrasive cloth for years. Very popular for Custom KnifeMakers. Once again Gun, thanks for very informative and useful vid! KnifeMaker

What lathe is that? My mini lathe doesn't have a center through large enough to fit the barrel through it. Great video on polishing the barrel!

There's a very good reason why you clean THOROUGHLY between each polish. It is to remove the material from the previous session - including the coarser residue from that polishing material. If you don't clean thoroughly between each polishing session, you not only drag all that waste material and the coarser leftover grit from the previous session, you also contaminate the finer grit polishing cloth too - totally defeating the object of the polishing process. In reality what this process is SUPPOSED to be for is to remove the ridges left by the original boring process and not removed by the manufacturer. Done properly this WILL slightly enlarge the barrel. That's inevitable. How much depends upon the height of the ridges, or the depth of the scoring caused by the machining process. Anyone can polish anything. Making it flat or smooth is an art. Firstly you need to understand what needs to be done, ie: how much course working needs to be carried out to achieve flatness or smoothness. So, what you actually do is work a test area that can be visually checked using very high magnification. Once you've established flatness and or smoothness, THEN and only then is it worthwhile you polishing. And before you ask, yes, I've done this many times. On very high presidios wood plane blades I use two grades of Japanese water stones. I first obtain absolute flatness and and smoothness, wash thoroughly to remove all debris, THEN polish. I've been doing this to planes and guns for 40 years. I can attain a scientifically flat and smothe mirror finish on a wood plane blade, who's edge will last for hours of hard use, and who's surface is good enough to read a newspaper behind me! Polishing a still rough surface will not achieve this effect. Also, using cloth to achieve flatness and smoothness WILL dull the sharp edges of the rifling. The correct material to avoid this should be flat to the bore.

This is a great video - thanks! First time I had seen this kind of abrasive media used in this way. Question: If you are going to polish a .22 barrel, would you use a .22 brush, or what? And where could I get the plastic guides for different calibers?

Interesting technique. Love the little Metal lathe, Harbor Freight? Or elsewhere? Have you ever considered using those 3M sheets to wet polish?

Plaidcladcanuck You talking about 'esting'? 'Esting Rowe' was the name of the channel previously and was automatically inserted when hitting reply. Ernest has since changed the channel name to his actual name. Get your facts straight prior to snidely preaching bullshit about respect from a soap box.
