You have to remember the actresses of that time didn't get plastic surgery. Also it wasn't no cosmetic procedures going on in the 60s. Nowadays you can get all of those things to make you look longer!

+Minh Duong Although I'm not a drag queen, after watching this I WANTED to put on a feather boa!! LOL. Dunaway was incredible in the part, but I thought Lange did a wonderful rendition too, especially in portraying Crawford's more vulnerable, insecure side. I haven't had this much fun with my clothes on!

I never, ever pay to see anything. But in this case, I popped for it, and was pleasantly rewarded with a truly entertaining bit of film fluff. I LOVED IT. Great performances, great timing, great casting, great script, great direction. Just put your troubles down for a moment and have fun... this will be a very "fabulous" ride.

Anybody looking for Lange and Sarandon to look and sound like Crawford and Davis are bound to be disappointed. It's best to watch the miniseries with an open mind. Joan and Bette were both one of a kind that CANNOT be imitated, that's why their aura is still so alive and vibrant. I can only hope Lange and Sarandon capture the SPIRIT and MANNERISMS of Crawford and Davis, tho from previews so far it seems Lange is doing a better job than Sarandon. It would be a daunting task for anyone to play Bette Davis, but Lange seems to have succeeded in capturing the spirit of Joan Crawford.

I wasn't thrilled with Susan Sarandon's performance and the fact that she severely underplayed Bette's accent. Sarandon, at least in the first episode, was playing the role on the surface and Jessica's acting had more depth and a thoughtfulness quality to it. However, something you can't take away from Susan is her resemblance to Bette. The shot of her recreating the scene from All About Eve as she comes down the staircase is an eery resemblance. Jessica's look is close enough for Joan.

Loved it ! Jessica and Susan bring just enough to give you the essence of Bette and Joan. Judy Davis was brilliant as was Jackie Hoffman. I think CZJ was miscast, her face never moved. And I doubt Jack Warner had a body like Stanley Tucci !

I remember watching the original movie on t.v. back in the 80's. It was a good movie and Davis was excellent. Now, this remake looks really well done and they casted great as they look like Davis and Crawford. I do have to say I never knew that they hated each other!

I think Jessica is a stronger actress (in general) than Susan. That said, I think she's barely believable as Joan(face shape is all wrong, looks a bit too old, where as Susan looks too young). They both sound like they're *pretending* to be this icons-not delivering even half way. For instance Bette had extremely distinctive mannerisms-all of which are unseen on these ads/clips/promos on YT. I almost wonder if this was rushed out too soon, or the budget would not allow the time required to truly study the classic actresses *properly*. Both desperately need vocal coaches, and wayyy more time practicing movements, tone of voice, inflection, etc. At first glance, I thought Susan looked way too young to be Bette at the time of this movie. I almost wonder if she would not agree to making her face look older(prosthetics,latex, etc). Or, maybe it was a foolish decision by the director....I almost feel like I'm watching b-movie actresses play Bette and Joan, and since these are established actresses, that feels really disconcerting...

I can't understand why the makeup artist for this film did not age Susan's face more. It could have easily been done with a tiny bit of latex-and it would have made things a whole lot more believable.

While I agree that "small differences like eye color" aren't going to prevent this from being a phenomenal show, such details shouldn't necessarily be overlooked when portraying real-life people who actually existed. Joan and Bette both had these steely blue gazes which is one of the trademark things that made them such popular actresses then and icons now. Jessica's features are a far cry from Joan's as it is, so not giving her the right eye color doesn't help matters at all.

I think that sarandon GETS Davis, but Lange gives Crawford more pathos, humanity, and emotional richness than she had. Crawford's emotional immaturity and fears were far greater than Lange's performance suggests. Crawford was a full-fledged narcissist who was in survival mode every minute. She didn't have the emotional depth or reserves that Lange's performance suggests. She was a child in a woman's body, not a misunderstood artiste. She was performing every moment of her life and never had the genuine moments of human interaction shown in this series.

It adheres, factwise, with every book I've read on Davis or Crawford. Only fresh angle: Crawford's brother Hal blackmailing her over the long-alleged smoker Joan's said to have made in pre-fame days. Most rumors have that one bought up by L.B. Mayer and destroyed or used as bargaining chip. Sarandon and Lange are nothing short of brilliant breathing life into Bette and Joan while avoiding easy caricatures. 18 Emmy nominations don't go to junk.
