Comparison of a 1994 FZJ80 and a 1995 FZJ80
Both have the updated 1FZ-FE engine inline 6 which has is a 24 valve 212 hp and 275ft lbs torque, A nice step uo from rhe 1991-1992 3FE engine that was in the FJ62. which had 155hp and 220 torque.
However there are some differences between the two.
For instance, the Redesigned dash in the 1995 now adoptwd airbags as standard equipment.
The cats changed from side by side catalytic converters to in-line converters. The exhaust also routes below the frame rail just behind the catalytic converters to avoid excessive heat on the passenger floor-boards.
The front grill had the word TOYOTA written across the front in 1994 and changed to the new Toyota symbol.
You can't swap headlights as the mounts are different from 1991-1994 vs 1995-1997.
That notorious droopy headliner changed to two piece molded units in 1995
Emission system on engine went from a Mass Air Pressure meter to a Mass Air Flow meter. Certain plumbing was also removed as shown in the video.
Supercharger & Turbo systems available for 1995-1997 models but good luck finding one. The turbo would boost HP from 213 to 300hp, but also shorten engine life... in my book, not worth it. At sea level I have not regeared and it drives great, cruises at 80mph.
ECU updates and truck became voluntary OBD-II compatible. Fully compatible OBDII IN 1996 models AND UP
Wheel Lug nuts change from conical to washer type.
Transmission changes from the A442f to the A343F halfway in 1995, some 95's were produced with the A442F. The debate continues which is better. they are both robust.
Radiator is a 2 row aluminum.
Both years are great. Bottom line is if you can get your hands on a clean FZJ80, then thats the right one!

Something I just figured out swapping a 97 LX450 engine into my 94 Land Cruiser that the 93-94 don't have a crank and cam position sensor. It gets all that data from the distributor but the distributors are in fact the same part so yeah. My LC runs and just has a loose crank sensor plug coming off the oil pan now lol.
@CruisingTheLand
@CruisingTheLand 2 жыл бұрын
Interesting... How much did the donor engine and install cost, this may help some others...
@whechi
@whechi 2 жыл бұрын
@@CruisingTheLand Got the donor engine for $1,000 since it came with no harness or ECU as my friend needed it for his LS swap. So still OBD1. Spent around $500 in fluids, gaskets, and a battery. And I bought the vehicle for $3,000. So I have about $4,500 in it right now. Dude I bought it from bought 5 Nittos and blew the engine up 50 miles later but I'm going to see if it's worth rebuilding myself and selling to recoup money. I had to swap the entire engine wire harness, intake manifold and throttle body, exhaust manifold, and that air injection nonsense from the 94 1FZ to the 97 1FZ. One revision that made mine harder is that my trans cooler lines are hard lines all the way up to the trans cooler. On the 95 and up they have rubber hoses at the bell housing connecting the hard lines making it easier if your just pulling the engine and not the trans. I took the shifter out to be able to get to 3 of the bell housing bolts through the cab which wasn't too bad the the right extensions and swivels. Hopefully some of that will help someone decide if they want to pull the whole drive train or just the engine.

We have a 94 with the cloth interior and it is still really nice. I thought leather was an option in 94. One other benefit of the cloth interior is they were manual seats. yes, see when heas gasket was done, check underneath for rust. check the rear main seal for leaks, the knuckles/ birfields etc . always worthwhile for a mechanical inspection too if it passes your visual approval.

Great comparison! I would only buy a 95+ 80 series if I wanted one. Almost got a free 94 that was rust free but it didn't work out :(. Just a heads up though, the base coat clear coat combo paint is referred to as "single stage". I've restored a few cruisers in my life and only use single stage. I spray it myself. Way easier to match and is just better for 4x4's overall. You don't get the same showroom finish but who cares with these things, right?

Actually the 94 has the bigger motor as well. The 93 and older have the previous engine. 94 and newer are the FZJ80s, 93 and older are FJ80s. It's the difference between someone that buys and not builds.

0 seconds ago I have this 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ80 (gasoline) and has a problem related to the ABS. When the vehicle almost comes to a complete stop, the brake pedal vibrates with a sound and tends to drive the vehicle to the right. If I disable the ABS, this concern does not happen. I have not heard of a 5.7L in the 80. Likely fitment issues. However, both engines should last a long time with regular maintenance. Why not drop in a 1HD- FT or FTE? It fits and you will get great MPG.

It is possible the import dealer added then. For instance for the 100 series, there was 2 major Toyota North America import main dealer. One Southeast (FL and minimal surroundings) and reat if US. Not sure the story behind why Toyota USA was soilt into these two... So, the Southeast Toyota division added Fender Flares to their 100s once delivered in the US. Whereas the rest of the states did not have the fender flares. It was bolt on, to existing mudflap holes amd some.clips and doublesided 3m tape. Just like roof racks, that get installed when the LCs were at the port before going to dealerships. They drop a template, drill the holes and install if that option was chosen by the dealership.
