I think you should've talked about the destiny dice. I mean, it can get really interesting when certain numbers rise in importance with the right roll. Suddenly those two's that you've got in your hand seem a lot more interesting when the dice go that way. It adds another layer to the game, where you're not just doing the right actions and trying to get good cards in your hand, but you also want the right numbers in your discard pile.

2:09 this. This is what intimidates me the most about fulfilling my little dream of becoming a board game reviewer (besides the saturated market and the fear of not being able to bring anything new to the industry). The idea that playing a game will become nothing more than playtesting to see how well I would rate it instead of just playing a game and then describing my experience. This offhand use of the word playtesting is rather scary.

Oh, no! You were using the double servant wrong. It's to be use horizontal not vertical so that it can take up TWO spaces, making it easier for the canal or the Great Wall. So it's beneficial to you either way. Counts as two servants when it's a cost, but only as one when moving from the general to the private pile.

Shut Up & Sit Down - Are you planning to add a Shut-Up-&-Sit-Down brand Rules Are Hard™ correction to the video? Will you be deleting and remaking the video to account for the way that this rule completely changes the pacing, difficulty, kinkiness, and overall flow of the game? Is the incorrect way in which you positioned these plus-sized game pieces a tacit form of fat-shaming?
@jeffmcleod38295 жыл бұрын
@@shutupandsitdown I put it to the symetrical playing piece. In the Deluxe version, it's a uniquely carved piece (like the traveler or the palace piece) so it's WAY easier to tell and not even a question.

Reminds me how some place avoids the gambling law by adding the element of item exchange: play gambling games for toys, then take those toys to another place to "sell them". Basically you cash them in. Either something is illegal or it's not, it can't be both regardless how one tries to hide it.

Something that this channel does that few others do is that I always come back to watch old videos.. These reviews aren't just helpful they are beyond entertaining and they go beyond, what I've seen, from a typical board game review. I love watching the 878 Vikings Review and the Hive Pocket Review simply because of the fun that is had with what could have been a boring video. A normal board game review talks about the rules and if it was a good game or not. Shut up and Sit Down talks about the experience. They talk about the component that isn't in the box, your friends and family. They talk about how players interact, even if its a little. They talk about the experience. They don't review a game as a set of rules. They review it as an event. Even if the event was messy they still ask "but did you have fun?". Hands down in my top 5 favorite KZbin channels and I rarely pass up the chance to recommend Shut Up and Sit Down to everyone who seems even remotely interested in tabletop gaming.

The couple times I played this game, the Destiny Dice played pretty big roll. It made me want cards more then going to certain places. The benefit of more workers and going up the Empire Track seemed really important. It is strange that they did not even mention them.

I love this game. You guys didn't mention that interaction in the review, but the double servant works beautifully with the travel action because of the ability to trade in two travel tokens for a servant. Take the travel action, spend the double servant to travel twice, pick up two travel tokens and gain their bonuses, then discard the tokens to get the double servant back and use him on the next action. Combined with the travel tokens that let you place a servant from your discard, the shenanigans you can get going are just wonderful.

Ok, let me get this straight. In 14th century China it's illegal to give money to influence law makers, but "gifts" are just fine? Kind of like lobbying currently in the USA? Like, I mean, exactly like lobbying USA? So corruption in 14th century China is basically the same as corruption in 21st century USA? Just asking. For a friend.

Y'know what terrifies me the most of this skits with Matt? that I saw that one presentation you guys did, it's on this channel, talking about manipulation and other devious stuff on a psychology presentation. And realizing that this guy is a backstabbing bastard when he wants to on boardgames... I know a guy who is like this. He looks like a saint. You speak with him, and you realize, he IS a saint. He is super kind and a nice person, the best of a kind. And then we play secret hitler and he gets to be hitler, and it's absolutely terrifying. Cuz you can never not trust him, I swear the guy cheats cuz everysingle time I have played he was either fascist or hitler, and you never, EVER, see it coming. I laugh so much when he wins cuz I can't even be mad, he deserves it, he controls the whole table as he wishes.

@wizzlefrizzle5 жыл бұрын
Matt, exchanging fruit for money is just buying the fruit. What you need to do is steal the fruit from the game designers. Then, when the police come to arrest you, you promise to write a glowing review for the police officer's boardgame. But instead of actually doing that you post a video of yourself eating the fruit. That's how corruption works.
