Great videos! I think we all cringe when it comes to the brittle nature of Zartan’s Swamp Skier, especially since Hasbro designed it to be disassembled and re-assembled after the Master of Disguise accomplishes his various missions. You just gave us a way to salvage the broken parts and make them functional again. Thank you Toy Polloi!

When I was a kid I LOVED all the warning & instruction stickers on the GI Joe vehicles. I remember thinking that those made the difference between "toys" and "high end military models"

That's a really good fix. I have had a couple of these (I always think that the Swamp Skier looks like a Grasshopper, or Cricket, actually), and was annoyed at most of the fiddly bits of it were made of Polypropylene, which is fine for jugs and cups, etc., but not for toys, as it gets brittle with age, and exposure to sunlight. When the handlebars went west on mine, I just made a new set from styrene rod and tube, and 'plasticwelded' them to the styrene body. Both of mine were eventually converted into 'Swoops' for Star Wars figures (Boba Fett and Dengar). Painted up and weathered, with 'greeblies' attached, this toy looks fantastic. I also opened my Zartan figure by unscrewing him, and gently easing the torso apart, by putting a flat-bladed screwdriver in the slots on his sides where his armour clicks into. If you're gentle, and work slowly, it opens with no breakages.

The ski and handlebar fixes were excellent Dave. Very surprised the crate originally came without any decals, certainly looks better with the custom stickers you've added.
@toypolloi6 жыл бұрын
When he uses the crate. Zartan is supposed to be in disguise. So he wouldn't really advertise like this. But I prefer it with something on there. I might make a different design in future that is not cobra related.

when people do wood working/carpentry, sometimes they will use a nail as a guide hole... you could use a push pin for the plastic guide hole

I think I speak for many when I ask if you could do a series on how you make the stickers in PS... I keep slowing down the video so I can see what you are doing... but an actual video explaining would be really nice. Stickers are a big part of any toy restoration and video on how they are made would be very informative and would fit in with your channels theme. If you have no interest could you tack on the video capture in real time at the end of a video so we can follow along without slowing the video down?
@toypolloi6 жыл бұрын
It certainly something I could cover. But it would be a long video :D Next time I have an interesting set of stickers to make I will film the whole process and give a commentary as I go along.

I did the same thing with the wolverine.bought a gi joe version and took it apart and stripped the stickers off, then I painted the green body black and got a set of repro stickers for the action force s.a.s. force wolverine....so now I have an s.a.s. wolverine in my collection for a fraction of the price of a genuine vintage release.

Zartans are tight but you can wrap reverse open plier in foam tape so the plastic does not get damaged. Much more control they will pop open with no damage.

If you don't have a pin vise, you can heat the paperclip up with a lighter and push the hot end into the plastic. Hold it for a few seconds until it cools and then clip it off to the right size.

Those stickers are so nice!! You do decals better than anyone that I've seen online, Dave! As you remember, I also do them on occasion. You, of course, were nice enough to use a modified version of my Doctor Theopolis on a Buck Rogers Twiki restoration a few years back. I made that one because the just wasn't a nicer one to be found anywhere online. I absolutely applaud you for offering so many of your stickers on your website! Your lego aerial/handlebar fix was really great too! I've really started to get into collecting GI JOE figures, and I've managed to get some of the best and nicest ones, but I often find that these figures have many of the same problems. The rubber band/o-ring is usually worn out, screws are often stripped or rusted tight, and I've seen several with cracked elbow joints. What's the best way to remove a stripped screw? Is there a particular tool that works best for that? It seems like it would be possible to drill them out, but that seems kind of risky. Maybe a simple fix-it-guide video on removing action figure screws that are stripped, rusted tight, etc?? Just an idea. Keep up the great and inspiring videos! You're my go-to guy on KZbin, and as always, I eagerly await your next video post!

The "CAUTION" stickers can stay put, but since Zartan is supposed to be disguised as a junk collector when carrying the Swamp Skier in crate, I would have probably put the COBRA symbol on the _inside_ of the crate so the dismantled Skier would have a better chance of hiding it from the Joes.

Couldn't a guy just go to a construction site and throw the broken swampskier into some almost poured concrete? You could easily hide the broken areas then. No one would see them .
