Cliff Dagger has requested that his MASK Jackhammer is serviced.
In this video, we restore the vintage Kenner MASK Jackhammer which was kindly gifted from Andy ‪@Holochronicles‬ .
We repair the front grill, sticky hood and scratches on both the windscreen & roof.
During the repairs, Jackhammer is fully dismantled into its component parts, cleaned, repaired and re-assembled.

Dave... your production value, editing, timing, info-graphics and above all else your patience is awe-inspiring! This is truly A grade film making, not only have you restored this toy to it's former glory, but you have once again enabled viewers to now do the same! I don't collect MASK but enjoyed watching this process immensely. Cheers Dave, you're a gem in this community 👊

Dude!!! I’m not kidding!!! Your repair videos are truly inspirational!!! That jackhammer looks minty!!!! The amount of time, effort, and patience you put in to these restorations are remarkable. However lol, you can’t shout at kenner for welding, you know full well they welded these vehicles as they did with switchblade, and you’ve done plenty of them now, so no shouting at Kenner 😂. Amazing video once again Dave, Mr Dagger will be rolling in style once again 👌

Ah thanks buddy! This one did push my patience. Mostly because I thought it was going to be a smaller job, but just taking it apart took much longer and was a frustrating process 🤣 I don't know about inspirational but I really hope it's useful for anyone wanting to fix their Jackhammer - although to be honest it seems a rugged vehicle 🔥 As for the welded plastic, I'm still going to shout at Kenner LOL How dare they!! Didn't they know 40 years later, some random dude would want to dismantle one of their toys 🤣 Thanks for supporting as always 🤘

@@VintageToyRush I think those two are the best MASK vehicles, with Rhino also being extra cool! I don't have a large collection of MASK stuff: Thunderhawk (x2), Rhino, Jackhammer, and Condor, with all the appropriate corresponding figures, plus I managed to get T-Bob and Scott Tracker and a Gloria figure a while back. I'm new to collecting MASK. I was 15 when MASK came out, and I wasn't buying toys back then. I did watch the cartoon from time to time, and I remember it fondly. I've delved into re-collecting the original STAR WARS figures and toys about a decade ago, and I've been collecting a lot of '80s stuff like GI JOE, CENTURIONS, MOTU, etc. I'm a big fan of Toy Polloi's channel, and I'm now a fan of yours. great video Dave. The rarity of MASK around me means most of my restorations remain cosmetic, and u have some serios balls spliting the welding! I would love a better front on my Jackhammer, but seeing the potential for permanent breakage, maybe not. I have used motorcycle visor polish for toy canopies to great success. Infact often car products seem to work well restoring old toys.
@VintageToyRush
@VintageToyRush 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Brendan! 🤘 I have to admit there was a point where I thought do I continue or not when the welding was spotted!! If it's the grill you want to replace or restore on your vehicle that can be removed without any damage - just the front black screws 👍 I haven't tried visor polish before! Is that something that can be hand applied or is best with a polishing tool like a Dremel? Something to try out. I've seen some videos where toys are gleaming and have wondered how that's done 😀
@brendanhaley3668

@@VintageToyRush I just hand polished and within 30sec to min itpolisbed well. I will have a look at replacing the grill if I can find a nice chrome grill to replace the trashing on I have. I still need to find a rubber restorer for the wheels whilst they are in good condition. Silicon spray seems to be successful.

Argh I hate welding, ah I see you have a...spudger? Certainly takes some patience to polish out scratches and a lot of grit values. Been keen on it for Omnibot restoration since they use a lot of transparent plastic face plates. Very captivating repair, I especially liked seeing that machine gun mech explanation. Also can appreciate that "taking a breather" moment, sometimes better to walk away for a bit. :)
@VintageToyRush

This is the most difficult MASK vehicle to open for sure - at least in my experience so far. I was pleased with the polishing approach but have wondered if I can use a small polishing machine instead - something to research! Now, I do walk away sometimes. Nothing like damaging one of these toys due to frustration, tiredness or loss of patience. So, you're a fellow restorer! When you say Omnibot, are those the Tomy ones? Do you have a channel or instagram showing some of your restorations?
@loganjorgensen
@loganjorgensen Жыл бұрын
@@VintageToyRush Oh so you have been thinking of machine assisted polishing. I've seen it done with metal toys but I guess small machine could be gentle enough. Yeah I love Tomy robots. :D I'm thinking of starting a toy channel but I got to get more organized first. I have a Jackhammer. The only problem with it is one of the front guns underneath the chrome grille does not reciprocate with the other whilst the toy is pushed forwards. It can easily retract with its twin when the hood armour is pushed back down and the grille flips back in place. I have carefully shone a torch to look inside where the grey cannon parts are connected to the black chassis but nothing seems to have come loose. I wonder if one of the grey flaps on the axle when helps the front guns move in and out has somehow broken preventing its movement. I'd rather not try and dismantle the whole toy fully as I can see its such a complex build. The spring hasn't come away either that holds the cannon in place either. Is there a quick fix for this issue? The other front gun moves in and out with the rattling noise it should make whilst the faulty gun just stays in an outward position - i.e. static. Anyone else have this issue? Everything else works fine and it has been wiped clean and had some very nice repro stickers applied apart from one on the inner side of the front grille as it was in good condition. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Dave.
@VintageToyRush
@VintageToyRush 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and let's see if we can find the issue. First thing I'd check is the grey paddles on the front wheels. You should see two of them spinning when turning the wheels and the hood is down. I'd be surprised if they're broken but good to check. Next, it may be the gun itself. You say it stays out which suggests to me there is a problem with the spring. I would gently pull the gun out, let go and see if it retracts - the working one will. The broken one probably won't. Each gun has its own spring. Check there are two. If the broken gun is missing the spring, it's gonna be difficult to replace without dismantling. I doubt the spring is missing though. If you look at kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIqXoaSjjbiNfqs you'll see there's a really small retaining washer - it's possible that's missing. Use that part of the video to see if that's what you see on your Jackhammer. That's a good place to start - let me know if you find anything 👍
@TheMasterNo6
@TheMasterNo6 4 ай бұрын
@@VintageToyRush Thanks for your reply Dave. Upon careful examination the fault lay with the left front gun not being positioned properly within its frame. One of the two notches on the gun - the upper one - had either popped out of place or had been incorrectly attached in the Kenner Parker Factory all those years ago. I personally reckon it's the latter of those two hypotheses as it's nigh on impossible to knock out of place that part. I had to partially dismantle the toy to fix it using a thin screwdriver and tweezers to get it back in place, as I could not get the bonnet off for a full dismantle. The hardest part was attaching the grey arm next to the faulty gun that connects to the bonnet and brings the guns forward and withdraws them when Jackhammer is in Bronco mode. Once I had fixed the cannon, I could have left it as is with one arm that would work the guns backwards and forwards when the bonnet is up or down. It irked me so much I had to get the arm back in place. Eventually I managed it and fitted the grille back on. Jackhammer now works perfectly. It is a highly intricately constructed toy and certainly not for the faint hearted to dismantle. I am glad I have restored mine and got that pesky gun fixed too. I shan't be taking it apart ever again - especially that bonnet which I found impossible to try and remove.

Can I just ask, I have a really minty Jackhammer with the only issue being that the front grill can droop forward a bit. Ive had the whole thing apart and nothing was broken, yours seemed to do the same at the start but not the end, was there a fix for this? Thanks
@VintageToyRush
@VintageToyRush 5 ай бұрын
I wish I could say there was a specific fix. I think basically giving it all a good clean, having all the hood parts apart and re-assembling carefully did the trick. It seems to mostly rely on friction to keep it in place. I'm surprised you've taken your minty Jackhammer apart cause it requires splitting the body from the chassis which is glued!
@snakeeyes7763
@snakeeyes7763 5 ай бұрын
Hehe, that droopy front would do my head in! I think I’ve sorted it without splitting the body, I popped the front grill off and removed the bonnet button like you have instructed. I’ve then heated the fork that is stuck to the bottom of the button and slightly bent it forward. It seems to hold much better now. I’ve come to the conclusion that every mask vehicle needed atleast one metal die cast piece, on this it’s that fork. (On switchblade it’s the wing latch etc..)

Awesome! Great to hear you've had success. I've never thought about MASK having die cast pieces but it makes sense. It would be cool to have that transformers feel for MASK 👍
