Great Demo Bob. You just confirmed that my next bass will be the L1000. Absolutely love the sound in OMG mode.

I’ve got several G&L and I agree the L1000 is the best very simple fits about any style been a Leo fan since 1959

G&L basses absolutely blew me away.. I fell in love with the L2500 750 series… the tone and action and versatility is unmatched. I’m just surprised that they’re not a more popular company

Hey Greg, yeah, that surprises me too. The only drawback that I have found is that some models can be quite heavy.

I bought a new L1000 in 1981 for a Country gig when the Jazz I had actually sounded OK but I wanted more bottom. OMG fixed that. But also, the separate bass and treble control proved to be really useful, lots better than a single tone knob. For the thick sound I wanted, with OMG engaged, the bass control went to "8" or so, thick but clean, and then I'd add treble, start at maybe "4" or 5 and add until I got some clank (flatwound strings) and then back it off just until the clank went away. Different for different rooms, blended with pedal steel chords and runs very nicely, got compliments on the tone and liked it when someone sat in on bass, too. "Just the way I did it". Also found sounds very close to Fender Pbass and Jazz by manipulating tone settings on bass and amp. Not "exact" but other players heard it too. Fun!

Really loving mine. I went for the Okoume and rosewood board. Really wish I could try that natural.

Yes sir. Keep it simple and genuine as it is. You don't even need more gear than that. Loved it. Get some more on Bob black :)

I'm old and recall a lot of anticipation in the mid 70's when Leo Fender reemerged with Music Man. We all looked forward to what direction he would take bass design and thankfully he was able to add to his legacy with MM and later G&L. Would have been a shame if the Prec. and Jazz were the end for him.

We definitely need more stripped down and honest bass reviews like this one. Keep on the good work. 👍 the bass is also nice although i dont feel that P bass vibe.

G&L gets passed bc it's priced low. I was a dedicated poser only wanting top shelf gear, not the cheap stuff... Well, a beautiful L2500 Trib came to me once by cheap accident. Two weeks later my precious Roscoe Beck J 5 was boxed up and out the door for a decent buck. It didn't hold a candle soundwise, playability and range of tones... to a Tribute! So, now I'm all about Tributes.

Good review,, in terms of the gloss finish and Florida humidity, try some baby powder to keep your hands dry, just a little.

Hey Michael, good tip! I'll try that!

Good review. But, you didn't mention the passive tone controls they are the secret sauce. There's a lot of tone control there. They are well suited to that monstrous pickup. Many tones can be had, making it a Swiss Army knife of Basses.

You're right, Chris, sorry about that!

This is very informative but I wish you’d put the output through a mixer onto video. As it is, there is so much compression and distortion from the room mic that it’s hard to hear anything useful

Unfair Query: If U could only get one of these 2 basses, which one would U choose: 1) Fender Americian Pro II P Bass or 2) G&L CLF L-1000. No response required if U R unconfortable in answering. Thx.
@BobBlackBass8 ай бұрын
Hey Rachel, although I love the G&L I'd go with the American pro for a couple of reasons. I don't care for the gloss neck on the G&L. Also producers and engineers feel more confident when you show up with a P!
