Brilliant. Appreciate the simplicity of this and that you explain this in such detail.

does anyone have the wiring diagram for this engine? I looked up the site mention at 14:36 but the site seems to be down. Thank You in advance

Hello Trevor, have you done a 2 truck shay? I have one and want to convert it.

Great information. Thanks for the video. You almost have to be an electronic engineer to learn this stuff. I was wondering why you can't use live track power perhaps in a switching/storage yard scenario to charge the battery pack. Your Main Line could be dead rail (battery operation) with yard or sidings used for charging. This would save having to jumper the locomotive to recharge it. This seems like a logical work around to simplify the charging process, but since no one seems to be doing that, there must be something I haven't thought out.

I have one I converted to battery and RC (Airwire) with Phoenix sound. It is a great locomotive.

Does this model have the optical sensor for the chuffing I can’t remember?

Sorry, I don't remember, either. Someone may have mentioned that during the program.

Is the ESU Loksound unable to be programed from the T5000? I have no track DCC system so I have no way to program from track. I was planning to use a Convertr 6.0 and TCSWOW for a Heisler but have been thinking about Loksound.

Thanks for the video, very informative. I'm starting a garden railroad and considering purchasing a Pico 2-6-0 with tender. It has nothing on it accept basic DC rail pickup. Would like to convert to battery adding sound and lights. Do you have any idea if this engine is a good candidate to convert and if all the stuff you show could fit. Do you do conversions commercially? Recommendation on who does?
@tsgmultimedia4 жыл бұрын
Hi Doug, Kathy: You would have to open it up and look at how much room is there. This shay is just one example of how to make the modifications. Most models can be modified similarly. This is where your creativity comes into play. I am not aware of anyone who does airwire/battery conversions commercially. Trevor (in this video) is skilled enough to do that, but I have never asked him if he would want to take on a project like that for a third party.

I checked around and discovered that another friend of mine does, in fact, do battery and RC conversions on garden scale models. Please look him up on Facebook - search for "prospector models" or use this link (facebook.com/prospectormodels/) and you will find him. His name is Adam and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him for a project like what you described.

Is there a list available of the products you used for this conversion? I have the exact model and would like to convert it.

Hey John I'm pretty sure Trevor mentions each product by name and brand as they're being installed. Did you watch the video?
@IrishDrum5 жыл бұрын
@@tsgmultimedia I have watched all 3 of the video's but certainly will go back and do it again with paper and pencil in hand. Thanks
@tsgmultimedia5 жыл бұрын
@@IrishDrum I think that's the best idea because that's what I'd have to do in order to answer properly and I don't have time right now. I'm going to start including information like that in the videos from now on though because people often ask that exact question. I've always figured if you're planning a project like that, you'd make note of what you need and/or have the video handy when you're doing the work so it's not as hard, but I am coming to realize not everyone approaches things the way I do. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, and happy 2019!

By the way, if you make the list and post it here I will include it in the video description so everyone can benefit from the info henceforth. :)

@@tsgmultimedia After replaying the video thru what was stated and what I could read off pictures I have come up with the following: From TamValleyDepot.com, a SAA DCC Booster, a VISATON 8 ohm speaker, From CVP Products - a T5000 Wireless Throttle and CONVRTR-25X, a ESU 54500 LokSound XL V4.0 for O/G scale, a 3.5 mm Phone Jack (for charging), and a 4 pole ON/OFF/ON switch. If I have listed items incorrectly it is because I could not make out the detail. I hope this is of assistance for anyone looking to make this conversion. As a side note, when I was a teen, I lived in a logging camp in British Columbia and had the rare opportunity to take the throttle of a real Shay. What a memorable experience.

great video dan and John, i enjoyed the video, but the audio sounds a little weird
@tsgmultimedia8 жыл бұрын
The audio was recorded with an overhead condenser shotgun microphone because we do not have 3 inputs on the camera.
