Just watch Frosk's face seconds after finishing her "Don't Like it, Don't Watch it" speech. that's a "what have I just done???" face if ever I saw it! She was borderline in tears. But to be honest, G4 failed, like the reboot of Gamesmaster did. They jumped onto a global platform, where 95% of the users had never even heard of them before, let along had any nostalgia. and G4 absolutely refused to have any business with anyone outside of the US too with their content, so they didn't even have the foresight to juxtaposition onto a foreign audience.

Political discourse was dry and nobody seemed to feel strongly about either side (Neither Gore nor Kerry would've been much better, if at all than Dubya and Obama, McCain, and Romney were also all horrible choices). I grew up in the very left leaning DC area and politics really didn't get blatantly ham fisted into everything until after I started high school (September 2011). Maybe that's why I feel I'm in a better mental space than the young zoomers, since I'm just old enough to remember back when things were still normalish. As an original old school G4 viewer and prominent forum member since the early 2000s, I'm glad this hollowed zombie has finally died. I first started watching the network in 2002 when I was a junior in high school, and was immediately hooked on its content since it was a real channel for gamers. I promptly joined the message board afterwards [despite not even owning a computer yet] and would take to the main message boards to post all sorts of sophomoric and cringy rants during the GameCube vs. PS2 console wars. Soon I got banned in early 2003 and became a controversial forum member when allowed back, and also became an extremely divisive figure on the site due to my rants, anecdotes, and offensive image macros (some of these led to real world consequences). Some people have recently retroactively referred to me as "G4's Keemstar", in the sense that I was a controversial, repeatedly-banned figure who stirred up drama in the community back in 2002-2004. Nonetheless, I formed some small friendships at the time with the website admins and even had some of my forum posts and images shown on the G4TV live show with Scot, Tina, and Laura. By the time I finished high school in 2003, I had serious dreams to escape my small town in rural Pennsylvania to move to California and become an employee at G4, whether as a lowly production assistant or a motion graphics artist for their on-air visuals. These plans never came to fruition, and soon afterwards the network merged with TechTV - effectively sowing the seeds of destruction for G4's legacy. I remember the countless fights and the schism among original G4 members vs. new TechTV refugees, and how the site was gradually falling apart. By the middle of the 2000s, I gave up with any aspirations to work for the channel, and eventually stopped watching the network when they started showing COPS reruns. When they announced the return of G4 last year, I was on the fence and very cynical about the idea, but kept an open mind. Frosk's hamfisted rant as well as Adam's inane virtue signalling tweets completely turned me off from any hope I had in the new KZbin reincarnation of my former favorite TV network. It wasn't anything remotely akin to the network I remembered from about 20 years ago, and instead I only hoped the new KZbin reboot would crash and burn. As someone who seriously aspired to be a production crew member of the former TV network, I can only deeply sympathize with the new G4 employees who are now out of work - but the same cannot be said about Adam or Frosk, as they caused this themselves. We wanted a return of the glory days of the 2000s with discussions and earnest reviews of new gaming tech - and not anymore post-GamerGate self-flagellation about race and privilege.

Even with independent creators like KZbinrs you can end up getting to feel a sense that they're compromised based on how they talk about certain issues, particularly regarding controversies Say for instance the fighting game KZbinrs where pretty much every single big name one had to talk about how "great" the change for Bridget without actually engaging with it on any level beyond skin deep "muh representation" was and the closest we got to anything else was Jiyuna just saying, "Eh, I'm just sitting back and watching the flame wars." In terms of someone's content feeling corporate it isn't necessarily tied to production values, I think it's very much tied to how much they're willing to take risks, not only on controversies but also just in general. Like a channel that once did a variety of content based on what the creator was interested in but that ended up just exclusively focusing on the content that made the most money, that's one level. Or a channel that, like mentioned above, goes out of their way to take the pre-approved "safe" option on any sort of controversies (this can apply both ways, depending on the audience they're going for even if most of the people who get compromised are the ones appealing to Twitter).

@@f145hr3831jr the trans flag crowd refused to acnowledge the existance of the word "grooming" because cute valid brave representation and the other side refused to acnowledge that the devs did what they did to the point of pretending that a certain arcade ending isn't canon (when that's not how strive arcade endings work). funny copium all around.

8:25 Not necessarily. There's always a chance that G4 COULD have picked itself up and blown up (as it sometimes happens to obscure streamers). But Frosk basically nailed them down and basically put a glass ceiling above their heads.

Gamergate is about how the gaming companies were in bed-literally, with gaming press companies. That the color-haired lady’s relationship issues were plastered all over was unfortunate, but it helped underscore that the gaming media was the press core of the gaming industry…which was pretty obvious for how many 10/10 games were reviewed.

Good riddance to the new woke G4. It potentially could have been salvaged had they cut the cancer of Frosk out immedietly after her dumb rant. But instead they boosted it and that was the beginning of the end for their already pointless revival. If you loved the original G4, just follow Chris Gore (Film Threat channel). Hes based and one of the few original G4tv talent whose being successful on youtube and still entertaining to watch.

If it died because no one wanted it while trying to bring bacl the old charm I would be sad but it wasn't and instead took cues from the garbage we were left when it originally died. It didn't say hey, the early 2000's was fun lets try that again, lets bring back the Lan matches (lol), tech news (with actual qualified people), trailers for upcoming games (kinda pointless). Hell we had that with gametrailerstv, rockpapershotgun, other indie reviews that all they needed was a collated programming block that could keep people watching, and the beauty is that this would work so well now with people wanting a stable flow of quality, non political information for the sake od sanity in the modern world. people back then thought the internet was cool because of how disjarring it was, now were living in it and suffering for how shit everything is because of how connected we are and with no quality authoritiative sources or dissemenation were always going to waste time finding gems that could be better spent just logging out from this crappy setup.

Ya know...if they had announced a Code Monkeys Revival, maybe G4 would have survived for...maybe an extra year or so, if not have turned into the Code Monkeys Official KZbin Channel. But for real, I kind of do feel bad, but considering how some of these people where the same ones who considered GG to be a movement of hate like how the mainstream media seems to portray it, it's no surprise they were gonna end up being outof touch with their audience - if any, considering the landscape of gaming "journalism" had shifted from "corporate celebrities" having the behind the scenes keys to that new gaming scoop to having say Scott the Woz or NitroRad talk about some games while either being critical of the content or just making funny skits that blend in well with the feeling of playing said game in question. Heck, I find that most of the game media I consume these days is wither looking back at old nostalgia or games I never got the chance to play, if not a video or two of a modern game that either ends up being better than expected or just not a good game at all.(People enjoy the current, but something I liked about the old G4 content that I can recall - since it was current at the time - was that they would show off gameplay of what they talked about, as well as try and come up with strategies for said games they chose to showcase; one of my early G4 memories was basically X-Play giving a highlight to what I think was a PC Eroge about bunny girls, another was when they did try and cover Godhand for Cheat I think the series was called, where they showed off the ending sequence alongside some of the boss fights, and the time for the I think 20th anniversary of Star Wars, their main two shows at the time were Star Wars themed - Attack of the Show covering a con for the Star Wars 20th anniversary with Peter Cullen and Adam and Morgan talking about Force Unleashed as well as other Star Wars gems that were new at the time like Knights of the Old Republic in X- Play while dressed as Lando and I think Mace Windu [though no make up, in case you were curious]. Anyways...I rambled a lot, but yeah...the essence of old G4 is just not there anymore, and I don't know if people like Jirard would have been able to save it because you still serve as the mouthpiece of whoever was trying to bring this dead channel back into relevance)
