Southgate being the most successful manager since 1966 is a terrible manipulation of statistics and of the word "Success".. Does anyone remember Gazza, Shearer, Sheringham? Southgate hasn't won a thing, neither did any manager since Alf Ramsey. However, I do remember how we played under Terry Venables for example. If you win something then that's success. If this is winning then frankly I'd rather play well and lose.

Under Venables?? He only had 5 competitive games in charge and and we awful against Switzerland in the first, just as bad against Scotland in the first half of the second match and more than rode our luck against Spain in the QF. We played well in the second half against Scotland and the games against Holland in the group and Germany in the SF. That's 2.5 good performances out of 5 matches!

Exactly. Mainoo is a decent player but nothing special. Rice plays and moves like a log of wood. Foden plays like a mediocre player from the 2nd Bundesliga. And so on, and so on. But English fans and pundits think they all are "world class".😂

Look, the be all and end all is. We have won f**k all since '66. Southgate has been gifted run ins to the finals on 3-4 occasions that a manager could only dream of. Despite this, it's a case of so close yet so far. We need a tactician and a manager who has a plan a, b, c and d. If GS was in charge for another 4 tournaments, he would not change this team or this formation that he loves so much. Hes got us close but it is not testament to how good he is as a coach, it's mostly down to individual brilliance like JB against Slovakia and the easy run ins we've had in the KO phases. The next manager needs to be young, inspiring, willing to take a risk and able to pick a team based on winning a game and NOT based on pleasing players that he sucks off

Im still in the Southgate camp as frustrating as it he hadnt made earlier substitutions but just lately hes getting better at that, the entertainment value with England was low before hevgot the job, good performances are far and few between so it us therefore more important to just get a win by any means, this crop of players can do it, and still win this thing, I do think unless je eins it he should go, if he wins let him stay until after the world cup

Sadgate HASNT given us success. We've only done under him what we always did, trundle along thinking we're Brazil then go out as soon as we play a Belgium. (That's the team knocked out by Wales, in 2016 btw.)

It's so strange. If playing essentially the same squad and system over and over, we'd be giving Switzerland every advantage. They know we can't play this system well and know our weaknesses inside and out, possibly better than our own management do, after 4 games of the same level of performance. I'd do a 5-3-2 Saka and Trent as the wing backs with Gomez, Stones, Walker in the three. Kane needs a partner up top to play off of and support him in the middle when we send those long balls to him. Toney is better at winning the aerial battles and Watkins is a quicker runner to go past the defencive line... pick your poison Gareth. Just don't do more of the same.
