Literally just watched the IGN interview with Gaben, and when the interviewer asked about wether games or software was being specifically developed for the Steam Deck, Gaben went on exactly the same tangent about machine vision. He said that it doesn't make sense to do anything specific for the Deck because it doesn't do anything different than a PC, but... He then talked about these other capabilities like machine vision, and that would justify developing something that is specific to the added capabilities. I could only think of AR/VR . It doesn't make sense that he would be talking about a camera added onto a Steam Deck. In that other interview, Gaben mentioning Pokemon Go seems to exactly line up with thinking about un-tethered mobile VR. Regarding the price range, in the IGN interview, Gaben said he was surprised that their top price SKU is in the highest demand, which should point Valve towards the "enthusiast" market going forward.

29:30 I'm worried this is only going to increase fragmentation in VR. But maybe that's necessary at this stage. It's easy for me to want one or two big VR OSes/ ecosystems, like we have with iOS and Android, but I think this stage of the VR tech lifecycle is more comparable to the end of the massive brick cellphones and the beginnings of the early 2000s with its lots and lots of cellphone manufacturers, each with its own OS, software, and strategy, until eventually one or two major players emerge. Or maybe I'm trying too hard to make a comparison.

Volumes a bit low, and English subtitles baked on. Best to use the Sub/CC option in YT for that. I had my hopes on the DecaGear1 but that appears flushed down the toilet so I have no VR at all and probably won't have VR for quite some time because I don't care for Facebook or Tiktok options. All I know is that my next VR headset will be this “Deckard” device. Hopefully by then I will also have fully upgraded my PC so I can finally have a perfectly smooth PC VR experience… my current PC is great for flat screen gaming, and above the minimum specs for VR, but my experience with VR is definitely nowhere near as good as it could be and I’m tired of using the Quest 2 and Quest Link as the video looks extra compressed and it feels like there a bit of delay in my movements. I just want to play Alyx again (and whatever the next Valve VR game will be that “HLX” game) with no issues.

When you move your head away you can hear the microphone go from 30 db to like 15db. I saw on your screen that it seemed like the audio peaks weren't that high. What's the microphone volume on your windows sound settings? Hey Brad, I was thinking about what you said about color filters and light emissions for a while. I noticed that in current VR headsets, whenever I enter a dark environment everything looks a lot more accurate and realistic. I often get chills when I randomly look at something in a dark area in Half Life Alyx because it just looks so much more believable for some reason. Would you say this has to do with lenses having trouble emitting light at higher brightnesses, or is it something else? Or is it just me?

Still don't have a headset, but I am interested in this stuff as a thing to be interested in and as a potential future (meta sure seems to think so). And you saying you were going to make a vrchat world instead of a website was interesting to me, since the way you create stuff varies from the internet. In the internet, everyone uses html, css, and javascript to achieve functionality. Website builders exist but it makes no difference to me on my browser if a website was built with squarespace or wordpress or by hand. Wheras in vr you have to go through specific metaverses (ie vrchat, neos), there is not a universal standard and I can't modify the code with extensions like ublock (wouldn't be suprised if you could a bit in vr actually, like I said I'm not in this yet), but yeah I wonder what differences this would imply, like for privacy and social snowballing. I wonder if a universal standard could be developed that is capable of running vr (unlike javascript although look at mozilla's metaverse thing), or alternatively, a browser that can combine worlds from all the metaverses could be developed. Both these things probably have problems with them but anyway Sorry for the random comment lol

I mean I'd probably be happy to pay big for a valve vr upgrade but 3000 american bucks?? thats like 5000+ aussie bucks!! For that money you can get a top dollar pc, with a fantastic vr setup, and lots of software nvm 3k usd is like 4k aud and my 5900 3070 pc cost 3600aud, and a cosmos elite setup on special was like 1200aud and thats not even considering the upgrades like lenses, fan and battery mod, and wireless, oh and also importing index knuckles over to australia... damn actually 3k usd for a top valve headset might not be that absurd D: edit oh and you also need to consider computer peripherals, and extra storage down the line, and the expensive software, and if you were to try to get vr accessories theyd cost a shit tonne, wireless, decamove, fbt, facial pads, proper cooling fans, all cost a pretty bloody penny too
@noireuxsbox2697
@noireuxsbox2697 2 жыл бұрын
@@cate01a oof yeah, I know how fucked up it is sometimes to receive products in Australia, I had (still sad about it...) an Australian friend that told me about it But yeah, 3k isn't actually mind-blowing (5k would be) I already have a pretty good PC (well, was, i gotta upgrade I'm sitting on a 2060 right now), already have FBT and won't get as far as getting a decamove, i would rather do training on my infinite walking (if I have enough space to do it). Cooling fans not really needed, just gonna leave the window opened as the only times I'm gonna sweat in my VR headset is if I'm playing Beat Saber or dancing so won't be talking while doing that. The 3k price range accounts for wireless as well but since I'll be sleeping with VR, I'm actually okay with tethered (would be great to dance without having to worry about a cable though) When it comes to software, I don't really see what I need more, just SteamVR, OVR ToolKit/Advanced Settings, VoiceMeeter (trying to find a hardware way to do it), VRChat and 3D assets for world/avatar creation is all I need (and i already have most of that)

I like the eye and face tracking that project Cambria will have but I don't want to go the Facebook product route unless their future VR headsets blow everyone else out of the water. should gabe be surprised, counsel gammers have a pattern of buying the one with the larger hard drive, and games these days can easily take up hdd space, last valve said dont open the device so with all that said i can see why many just dont want to deal with getting the cheaper unit and upgrading the ssd. i personally considered it, then i remembered all of the weird issues i had with devices over heating due to needing to replace cpu /gpu past and it not having the correct thermal profile/consistency ... arctic silver is not always the answer for cpu paste.

PS5 was revealed on June 10, leaks from the production line occured on June 20. It released Nov 12. We can assume the reveal of PS VR2 means it's entering production and there may be an approx. 5 months wait till it's available. But! If the yield is low due to semiconductor shortages, or if SIE wants more consoles out beforehand, who knows if they still plan to launch Q1 2023. If VR games launch in 2022 with a lack of headsets, gaming software will depreciate rapidly (as they normally do - new digital and physical copies). Therefore recouping costs/profiting (at least from Day 1 software buyers) may take a hard hit. Since software is _virtually_ (😉) where ALL the money is, could a Q1 2023 release look more viable considering these factors? I nearly forgot... The Tobii eye-tracking software procurement (potential) issue. Maybe that's another cog in the machine causing a potential delay?

Sorry if you mention this in the video, but I didn't have time to watch the whole thing right now. I would say It makes more sense to develop a headset tethered to your steam deck, then develop a fully stand alone headset. Sure, it *may be* more cumbersome to have a steam deck strapped to your belt, but you don't have to buy basically the same hardware twice. And I say maybe because the headset itself can be made lighter if you move some hardware off your head and onto your hip. The same headset would obviously connect to your PC if you want to go full tether.

It's unlikely deck can support much in the way of VR fluidly, calling what deckard would be and deck "the same hardware" is kind of silly That's like calling your phone and the oculus quest 2 the same hardware, therefore they should just make a headset for your phone

I would like to have a high-res VR-headset replacing my PC-screen. It should be light-weight so that I can use it for hours. There is no need for stand-alone, I want to use it on my PC. When I think about computer vision and stand-alone, I imagine something like Microsoft's HoloLens. You need to have your real vision when you're outside, the augmented computer information need to be added to your normal vision.
