And not just islands. The mainland is an even bigger overlooked paradise. The mountains, seas, landscapes, caves, inbody waters, mountain lakes, natural hotsprings, etc, etc offer all a magical world as well. Whatever paradise you explore on the island you didnt know about and having this magical sense of feeling of exploring it, the same will happen endlessly on the mainland as well.

Many years ago when I was in Greece, I was told that millennia ago the Greeks terraced the islands that had a source of fresh water, to retain the top soil. Sometimes these terraces were 4000 years old! On many islands they grew wild thymes and marjorams and horehound, for the nectar for bees, and in summer the air was filled with the aroma of these plants and honey. My friend had a tiny house on one of the islands and we rebuilt a terrace that was in disrepair at the back of his house, just as the Greeks had done thousands of years before!

Gabriel, you remind me of my brother Karl. We live in Vienna/Austria. My brother toured Greece and the rest of Europe in the 1980's. His longest journey was China, in the late 1980s. He always wrote postcards to us, the family and me, his little sister. Today he has 5 children and is a state judge. But he never wants to miss this time again. i love my brother

Greece is a country for 2 types of people. For the tourists and the explorers. Tourists just go to the Acropolis of Athens, Mykonos and Santorini. Explorers find the most unknown, unexplored, remote islands and places to live the real Greek experience. Rough places, laid back and peaceful people, lack of luxury and amenities. Simple life with no stress about work, money, career etc... Just enjoy the weather, the landscape, the sea, the food, the fresh dry air and the light breeze which cools down the summer heat.

There are many islands in greece like Tilos that tourists have never heard of. Even the big ones. Some small ones like tilos : Chalki (near Rhodes) , Anafi , Astypalaia , Koufonisia, Kythira , Schoinoussa , Paxos , Antipaxos and other big ones. But if you go after 25th of July untill 20th of August, it is much more crowded and twice more expensive (the rooms). But even greeks like to go vacation this cramped period.

Η Γερά / Gera (stress in a) was a rural village, built entirely with the local stone and all the houses "looked" towards the east. The town planning of the village is amazing. The narrow streets run north-south and the houses only had one big room for the whole family! In this beautiful landscape, the inhabitants worked hard to survive for 250 years. Finally the village was abandoned in 1950, when the great migration to America and other rich countries began.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos take a look at the eastern coastline of central Evia. The beaches between beach Thapsa and Limnionas (approximately) are the best in Greece imo. Just have in mind that u should not visit them with north/eastern winds, also the roads sometimes are bad (with perfect scenery always making it an adventure) and at peak period there are a lot of free campers there. Villages in Evia are not really traditional like in the rest of the Aegean with some exceptions and yes, northern Evia will need some years to recover from the wildfires.

Questions time: 1) Is Fix-Hellas your favourite beer, in the world? 2) If not, what is, please? 3) Ever want to go to Skorpios, where the Onassis's had their homes? I hear the place where Aristotle lived with Jacki-O was rather quaint and ... well, tiny, actually. 4) Ever want to study archaeology, Gabriel? Greece would be a paradise wherein to do so, huh?

Fix isn't my favorite beer but is one of the better of the popular Greek beers. They're all pretty average. The Fix Dark is especially good. Just discovered a new one yesterday that's even better, Alfa Weiss. Some of my favorites are Bomonti Red, Belikan Stout, Fat Tire Amber, Westmalle. I hadn't heard of Skorpios island but looks like it's a private island.
