𝐑.𝐈.𝐏. 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐔𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐬 ### Explanation and interesting facts in the READ MORE! ### ### INFORMATIONS sur cette vidéo A LIRE ABSOLUMENT ### In June 2013 gorillas from the Nyonié region in Gabon were filmed as they first discovered a large mirror (250 x 122cm) in their forest. They displayed reactions of fear, face to face with their congeners in the mirror’s rectangular frame. Staring back at them in the mirror, each gorilla saw the members of their family by their side as well as a completely unknown stranger, (their own image). Their reactions also showed incomprehension, why when reaching out their hand to touch this stranger (their image) their fingers met with a cold, flat, impenetrable surface? Why weren’t their counterparts they saw in the mirror found behind it? Why did this stranger (their reflection) copy their every movement and gesture? Three years later, the young children, mothers and their baby no longer pass impromptu in front of the mirror, but rather in a calculated manner. They go “to the mirror” the way humans go to the movies. As their hands explore the mirror’s surface their fingers are no longer tempted to try to pass through it. Their lips and mouth stick to the mirror’s surface. Some young gorillas give us the impression that they have understood the properties of the mirror as they admire themselves beating their chest with their two hands as their father would do to ward off an aggressor. Or perhaps their self recognition in the mirror is not as advanced as their behaviour suggests. In young gorillas the act of beating one’s chest with one’s hands can be an invitation to play (Dr. Liz Williamson, Great Ape Section Coordinator of the IUCN/SSC Primate Specialist Group). Spin move also seems to be an invitation to play. In front of the mirror, certain young gorillas behave as a very young human would during their mirror training: They believe that their own image is a friend who is copying their every move. Some seem to use the mirror’s properties to explore their anus, a part of their body they are unable to see without its help. The silverback has calmed the displays of aggressions he performed in an attempt to get rid of this intruder (his image) who encroached on his domain. He observes his females and descendants attentively and non aggressively who are glued to the mirror. His gaze passes furtively over his image, but only stops for a brief second because among the "silverbacks" looking straight at each other is a sign of defiance, a sign of invitation to fight. Traduction Robin Alcorn. =============================================

I am waiting for further reactions regarding the incorporation of transitions between excerpts from my videos edited side by side (fade out, progressive dissolution, turned pages and so on). I think it's softer than a slideshow without transition between scenes. It should also be noted that the average viewing time is very short (less than 90 seconds) and that it is appropriate to shorten each extract as much as possible while showing as many extracts as possible corresponding to the subject of the video. Please watch the other videos of my channel kzbin.infovideos and tell me which ones you prefer the transition mode between two rushes.

Notice the silverback at around 02:35, how he's facing the mirror, but trying not to look directly at it. It's because gorillas take eye contact as a sign of aggression, so he sees "another" silverback there that's exactly as big as him. He's positioning himself in case he needs to protect his family but he's purposefully not trying to start anything with the "other" silverback.

@Citizenthirteen actually they are omnivores. They are known to eat meat. As far as tearing apart just about everything, nahh there are animals that can easily kill silverback gorilla's like grizzly bears, tigers hippos, elephants, lions, rhino's. But compared to us humans they are crazy strong. You can put ten Brock Lesnars and they would be a joke compared to a male silverback. The heaviest silverback specimen registered weights 589 pounds/267 kg. Average silverbacks weight between 160 to 195 kg (350 to 430 pounds) and can lift up to 815 kg that's roughly 4,18 to 5,09 x their body weight. The record for deadlift was 457.5 kg set by Andy Bolton, and they can also bend steel bars with their bare hands. Gorilla's can reach top speed of 20 - 25 mph/32- 40 kmh. Usain Bolt reached on average 23.35 mph / 37.56 kmh so even as speed goes you are not outruning a gorilla. They have a mean bite force of 1300 psi 1,8 x stronger than a grizzly bear and 2 x stronger than a lion. They would easily rip a man in half.

The kinship of the gorilla and the chimpanzee with man is not in doubt today. Moreover, the "great apes" are classified in the same primate family as man: the hominids. *_We are all tailless primates! Despite some differences such as the length of the limbs or the shape of the jaws, similarities are obvious in the skeleton: large skull to house the voluminous brain, large rib cage and long arms._* But man is closer to gorillas or chimpanzees than to orangutans. A genetic resemblance has been discovered: man is said to have about 99% of his genes in common with the chimpanzee and only slightly less with the gorilla. The gorilla is therefore, after the chimpanzee, the second closest cousin to man! *And we would not have evolved from them but from a common ancestor, who would have lived in Africa only 8 to 10 million years ago.* Please watch my video kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGGul3Ror9eef5I This adolescent gorilla's attitude is really very close to that of his human cousins (Gabon jungle) Check out more of my 180 homemade videos from my channel and don't forget to read the description attached to each of them, you will find very interesting information. kzbin.infovideos Good vision!

Pretty sure Gorillas are intelligent enough to be familiar with the concept of reflection and that they were looking at themselves, if not they would have instantly attempted to attack their reflections - mirrors may be unusual to them but they would have seen their reflections in water before
@XHB06400CANNES
@XHB06400CANNES 9 ай бұрын
*1) wild gorillas rarely drink in a lake or in a creek or river because they consume succulent vegetation that is comprised of almost half water as well as morning dew* *2) Have you been able to recognize your own image clearly by leaning over a puddle of rain water or over a river or a lake? Maybe just your shade on a sunny day? On the surface of the water its own image cannot be reflected perpendicularly but laterally. For this reason your neighbour, under some light conditions and some quality from the bottom of the pond or the river, can see distinctly your face but not its own.* *3) As in humans, self-recognition in gorillas is also the result of learning to look in the mirror.* To do this, one must be exposed to one's reflection many times and examine it quietly: one's face, body and the gestures (attitudes) it copies. *While mirror training can be successful in some blackback gorillas (females, adolescents and children),* after a long practice in mirror in laboratory as in wild, it is *compromised among silverbacks* where looking another silverback, or its reflection, straight in the eyes is a sign of defiance, an attitude that these peaceful males avoid. *4)The non-self awareness in a mirror is not a lack of intelligence.* To date: only Humans, Orangutans, Chimpanzees, Bonobos, Gorillas (blackbacks), Rhesus Macaques, Bottlenose Dolphins, Asian Elephants, Orcas, African Grey Parrot and Magpies have shown the ability to recognize their own reflections after an even long training in the mirror for some ones. No cat as leopard, tiger or homecat, no dog passed this test. Please read the description attached to each of my 180 videos published on my KZbin channel you will know very interesting informations about animals reactions front of my mirrors in the jungle kzbin.infovideos

Honestly though, the one that scratched its ass in the mirror was really smart. It realized it can see a part of the body it never would have seen without this shiny tool, it checked to see if any other ape was watching, and it pinpointed that freakin itch that's been driving it crazy lol it improvised well

KZbin algorithm recommendations ??? My own algorithm recommends you to watch other homemade videos on my channel kzbin.infovideos (135 million views, 194.000 subscribers) with more than 180 videos (including 11 videos with more than 2 million views each and two videos with more than 36 million views), videos made and edited by me. With my wife and a friend Michel, we installed six large mirrors in a remote area of the Gabonese forest. In this uncontrolled and natural environment, multiple cameras were placed in front of each mirror to be able to film the animals' reactions to their reflection from different angles and at different distances. After each viewing, don't forget to click on the "show more" option, I attach a description to each of our videos to learn more about how animals react to their own reflection in mirrors placed in their jungle. I would like to point out that these wild animals, in complete freedom (neither in a zoo nor in an animal reserve), can go to these mirrors, as they see fit and stay in front, as long as they wish. *May I invite you to watch especially my no KZbin recommended videos which, unfortunately, have a very small number of views and are very informative like:* Baby elephant sleeps standing up glued to mom so as not to be left out when the night walk restarts? kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIquoY2kiMaYd9U First mud bath of an cute new born elephant with her mom and aunts: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKHNYomcoLN9iZY Fresh Water from Creeks triggers the urge to urinate in wild mammals: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ep3YenSvbNBjopo Eaters of waterlilies: Buffalo, Elephant, Sitatunga: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXqraGmjfq6imJY Can an elephant survive without half of its trunk lost in a poacher's wire snare? kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6CcmIqfbdWNp6c Before buying ivory jewellery or carved ivory objects: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJPYhZ1tpbOpfq8 and unfortunately there are many others in this case! *This young gorilla at **4:40** is standing scratching his belly. He also looks like some of Alfred Hitchcock's silhouette drawings. His belly is voluminous because it contains a digestive system ready to support a large volume of vegetables that he eats every day. A silverback gorilla eats daily 20 kg of vegetables, a female 12/15 kg. Check out more of my 180 homemade videos from my channel and don't forget to read the description attached to each of them, you will find very interesting information.* kzbin.infovideos Good vision!

The Silverback not attacking his own reflection also is proof of how he recognizes himself in the mirror. Otherwise he wouldn't be that calm.

No, not at all. The reason he didn't attack his reflection is actually much simpler. Silverbacks are not actually all that violent, 'fights' between two Silverbacks usually come down to a bunch of bluffing, mock charges, and roaring. If I had to guess the Silverback was more preoccupied with keeping his family safe than he was running off the intruder.

*_A title of a video pulished on KZbin should not exceed 100 characters and spaces included, the headphone user warning requires 24 characters and spaces included, may in some cases be penalized for the title itself by reducing its content. As I am a decent person, I have added this warning 𝐑.𝐈.𝐏. 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐔𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐬 under the miniature at the top line of the description._* *The silverback scream is meant to scare off **_(not the teenage gorilla)_** but a rival roaming around his family as one can see in the mirror a fast moving silvery grey silhouette on all fours resembling a gorilla or perhaps an alpha male chimpanzee?* *Or this scream of the head of the family means either a call to order to one of his females who has wandered off with her child into the jungle, out of her control (protection) zone. The next cry is the child refusing to obey its mother to join the other family members around the mirror.* Listen to this chilling cry of the silverbacks in my video kzbin.info/www/bejne/anStYWeterGgfrc Two Silverback Gorillas Fight in the Jungle - Animals Reactions in Huge Mirrors dirtied by a Leopard.
