I really like your explanation, and breaking down some key points of Canelo. He is one of my favorite active boxers. Those drills don't seem to difficult to try, and like you said repetition is going to make it feel more natural. Almost like muscle memory. You do it so many times it becomes an instinct reaction. Not your words exactly, but that's what I picked up. Great videos. Makes me want to get back into training. I like your videos, and on my days off from work I hit the gym, and just started getting back on the heavy bag last week. I have alot of work to do, but the days I'm not physically doing something, I'm learning about the sport again via your channel.

I know you probably have a long list of legendary fighters you want to break down, but if we could get one of Cory Sandhagen in the future that would be amazing. I don't think people understand how good his standup is. Sandhagen and Adesanya are the two most technical strikers in the UFC in my opinion.

I haven't watched that much boxing but to me Canelo seems like the proof when people say that modern boxers wouldn't stand a chance against the golden age legends don't know what they're talking about. The dude seems more impressive to me than any boxer I've ever seen. Sure maybe Ali's fight IQ was higher but if they were the same weight I don't think even that would be enough.

Love the channel & insight from a pro at your level. My favorite boxer of all time is James lights out Toney he had the most beautiful shoulder roll into straight right what's your thoughts on him
@konpoy
@konpoy 3 жыл бұрын
He is my favorite from the 90s. Funny you mention him . i think what could be added to this video on the shoulder roll defense is the trajectory of the shoulders as you perform philly shell shoulder roll - front shoulder higher than the back one. That allows for better defense and for any counter off the back hand as opposed to keeping your front shoulder lower - risking more to get hit and having fewer options to counter with off the back hand.
@GabrielVargaOfficial
@GabrielVargaOfficial 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. I haven't watched James Toney in years but I definitely remember his ability to get low and slip/roll away from punches. I'll go back and watch some of his fights.

@GabrielVargaOfficial

The difficulty is being ambidextrous defensively. Most people can attack well from both stances but find they get hit far more in one. I always say don't bother switching stances until you're really good at just one.
