Light training through injuries actually helped me improve my mechanics and further understand my body. It also forced me to focus on techniques that I wouldn't otherwise train.

I have a fight in 3 weeks and fucked my shoulder last week (bad landing on a sanda takedown). The doctor said its tenosynovitis, I just know it hurts a lot. What we've been working out on very light sessions is to change my repertoire for the fight, coming up with different tactics. That must be something you do for your fights too, right Gabriel? Also wish me luck!!

@@hussienrageb5269 Yoo whats up! I forgot about this comment. I won that fight! It was probably my worst performance ever but I sticked to a plan and it worked. Then fought 2 more times, the first I won by KO in the second round, and I lost the other fight because of dumb mistakes, dude was smart and had lots of heart. I hurt him really badly 2 times but I didn't notice I could have gone for the kill. Great fight, he earned the win. After that I got it properly checked and it was a Bankart + Hill Sachs injury. I got the surgery last month, its very painful. I'll get back to training but I think I had a good amateur run, I'll probably only fight 1 or 2 more times and call it done. Cheers

I asked Gabriel once about my rotator cuff/shoulder injury. And he replied that we can go through anything even the highest career ending injury if we set our mind to it and give it proper rest. He also told me that he had several of them serious injury before, and I still have the stupid injury after 2/3 months.

Was just teaching how to sweep doing a private. My student did the sweep and landed on me twisting my ankle and tore some ligaments… Just happened 3 days ago but back in the gym and riding the bike, doing calf raises and already slowly feeling a LITTLE better. You just have to find what you can do, do that and slowly get better. Doing nothing and being upset about it isn’t going to get you anywhere. Just try your best to get better and get moving !

Shit Gabriel, this video came at the perfect time. I just had my labrum repair surgery on my left arm, and I dislocated my right arm 5 days ago. Now I’ve got no arms, and my doctors told me to prepare for the possibility of another surgery. Got a couple of nagging leg injuries that I need to fix before i can practice kicking. So I guess thats what I’m gonna get good at. It fucking hurts my spirit a lot man, but I can’t give up. I’ve been out of training since 7 months ago because of my legs and other arm, so another one has just been mentally devastating. Thank you for everything you do. I need you and your strong mindset to keep me going and believing in my dreams

Hey. I had a labrum tear on my right shoulder that healed through rigorous PT. Wishing you well man. I know how debilitating that was. Struggled with basic things in fear the it'll subluxate. I'm now trying to resolve my bad knees I've dealt with for over 2 years that I tried to rehab conservatively

I have had a lot of experience with broken and sprained toes. We have a guy at my gym that broke and/or sprained two toes at the same time...this was about 8 months ago. I tried to talk to him and give him some advice on going to a doctor and getting in a boot. I even offered him one of my spare boots because I keep them all to remind myself but he declined. He didn't go see a doctor and the toes haven't healed properly and now he can't walk or run properly and has had to stop doing fights. Word to the wise...sometimes a boot for 4 to 5 weeks or crutches with full recovery is waaaaay better then never being able to train properly again.

Very helpful video. Super useful for me, I'm an amateur kickboxer and gonna be fighting at least 4-5 times in the next 4-8 weeks. Also, I have to weigh 71kg in all of those fights and am at 73.5 - 74 currently. Any tips on losing these 2-3kgs without dehydrating too much?

For some reason I'm injury prone. My first three months in training in 2018 I hurt my back that took me out for 6 months. Then at the end of 2019 I hurt my knee which I needed surgery in early 2020 pre pandemic. I was out for a whole year year since I had to do at home physical therapy. Then last month I ended up getting tennis elbow was out for three weeks then pulled my calf while sparring after those three weeks.

Gab, plz tell me this - i trained muay thai for a month and stopped because my ankles got swollen from kicking the heavy bag just as the coach wanted. i am 47 and usually just box. from your opinion was this injury a part of conditioning process and maybe i should have worn a soft shinpad or smth or was that a sign my body just wasnt into it at all?

I tore a bunch of ligaments in my left leg last May while defending a take down. Post surgery I only got back to kickboxing about a month ago and I haven't touched grappling again yet. It sucks and injuries like that are rare if your training is reasonable, but sometimes shit happens. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the fighter I was training with since I got back. I wonder if he left because he felt bad - even though it wasn't his fault. I haven't asked my gymmates about him yet...
