You’re right Andrew, this is more intended to be used with special reflectors like the CRLS, to achieve maximal trow and otput, i just did some test with the Godox Max90, another “parallel” beam adapter but this one is bigger in size and 5°, i tested against the Filmgear’s Powerbeam 18K wich is something similar to a Molebam and even tough the Powerbeam was of course brigther i was impressed with the amount of light i was getting out of the Max90 with the Godox 2400Bi, and now i know it’s brighter than the Nanlux one because of your review. The fact that we can have this amount of light out of an LED that we can plug in a house circuit is something remarkable!

Haven't used beam projectors all that much but we did use the film gear 12k beams the other day with pretty good results. Used them for sunlight punches through a few pretty large windows with shear curtains. I think we had them backed off maybe 50' from the window. I think these or this NL70 would be handy in situations where you need a light really far off for selective punches or beams of light and don't want the spill you would get from something like an arri max.

For something (presently) out of my wallet allowance for purchasing new kit... Andrew knocked it out of the park.. quite literally!! Another excellent review! I also mentioned to another reviewer I see this as a light bridge source.. and will see the mentioned review that Andrew suggested with great interest.

Such a cool reflector. Looks incredibly useful in specific situations, if it weren't for the double shadows it would have a much bigger use case. Thanks for doing this, been wanting to see it tested!

This reminds me of the dedolight and light bridge system - so use this with a MIRROR for mirror bounce to get rid of the inverse square law (almost) - or to shoot from the ground up to skyscrapers with just a mirror outside the window - rather than hang heavy lights up in the sky. We use prison mirrors (composite) cause they don’t break if they fall. Great review as always!!!

@@dance.science what's old is new! I remember going to a demo must have been decades ago now, and looking at the ballast on the light at ground level and saying to the gaffer next to me, "That's only a 1.2k. How can I 1.2K get light all the way up there?"

I could certainly see a use case for those in a studio set replacing the old mole beams, shafts of light from the grid, better suited to the 5 k engine tho, probably a bit pricey and small use, for use owner operator's tho.

The mole beam is one of those heads that everyone thinks is bright because they saw a photo of it with haze. Not a bright or efficient light. It has its applications though.

Mole beams come in different sizes, daylight, tungsten ... so depends what unit you are actually comparing it to. Moles are way more aesthetically pleasing I can tell you that!

Fun fact, you can create a true parallel beam by sticking reflective film on a satellite dish and replacing the feed horn with a Bowens Mount.
@gaffergear
@gaffergear 2 ай бұрын
@@SimplestUsername that makes sense, because as a satellite dish it's having to receive and magnify signals from a long long way away.

Why is the shadow quality so important?
@gaffergear
@gaffergear 18 күн бұрын
@@nyambe sometimes it is, other times it isn't. For example if I was bouncing this off a reflector it may not matter, but if I'm using it directly into a house to replicate a shaft of sunlight the shadows don't look like sunlight. Sunlight (assuming no overcast or clouds) has a single hard shadow. For those people thinking of using this as a sin light on a long throw through a house it is worth pointing out that the shadows are not 100% convincing.
