Instead of buying the Super League as a whole, the NRL-led consortium should buy a large percentage of it and set-up a few clubs with long-term "licenses" who are exempt from promotion-and-relegation. These would be strategically-located teams. London, Toulouse, and French Catalonia already have teams. The new ones should be Spanish Basque, Spanish Valencia, and Dublin, Ireland. That's six clubs. Other potential teams in the distant future could be Istanbul, Marseille, Italy, Canada, Netherlands, Portugal, and Balkans XIII. Six exempt clubs out of 16 teams is very doable. In the future it could be 18 or 20 teams in Super League with half or more being outside England. In EuroLeague basketball, the vast majority of clubs at the top-flight are long-term licensees and a minority of slots are pro-rel. I think that model is extreme but I support a minority or half the teams being long-term licensees and the rest being subject to pro-rel. Super League should be modeled as a hybrid British and European competition. The RFL Championship and RFL League One will remain British competitions.

1) Instead of playing NRL opening games in the US that nobody cares for, they should play the "World Club Challenge" in Las Vegas. It would be a much bigger deal and makes the WCC a bigger deal too. 2) The NRL doesn't need to buy the Super League as a whole. Instead, they should buy a large percentage of it and set-up a few clubs with long-term "licenses" that are exempt from promotion-and-relegation. These would be strategically-located teams. Hear me out… I think it would be cool, and more achieveable than you think, to have a combined English / Australian club competition. If half the teams are from Australia and half from England, and each team plays every other team once, half home and half away, that means that each team will play 75% of their matches in their own country. The 25% of matches that are played on the other side of the world can be done in a single “tour”. In other words, each team has one overseas tour which accounts for 25% of their season. Logistically, that seems pretty achievable to me.

Most rugby league in Europe is England, particularly north west England. There is essentially no meaningful rugby league being played anywhere else. Rugby league will never compete against Football in Europe. The best bet is overtaking rugby union in state schools across the UK and investing in those schools in a way essentially all the 6N unions have failed. Or just accept that Rugby League is predominantly an Australasian sport now and just make your nations head and shoulders better than everyone else like the Americans have done with most of their sports.

@@ToddHull-n4i I mean I don’t seen it happening. England are the only northern hemisphere team with the ability to compete against Australia, and even then that’s occasional. Rugby Union at international level is ingrained in the European sporting calendar. I can’t see how international rugby league could ever compete against that. However there is certainly the demand to see games club games and State of Origin. NRL should do some games or even have magic round in Europe one year and I guarantee fans would flock more for that than international rugby league.

Where is the money coming from? How much money will it take to develop and maintain 1000's of pitches on the East Coast of Australia, this is a stupid discussion. I want to see NRL Clubs benefiting from the players they bring through their youth system. Panthers created 30 dominant players and have lost out with over half of their 2020 team leaving to other clubs, I can bet that all of them did it for $, it is unfair on the time and effort the Panthers put in to introduce the players they have the last 5 years.
