Galatians: The Bible Explained

Watch our Introduction video on the book of Galatians, which outlines the book's main theme and how it is fulfilled in Jesus.
Galatians addresses the sensitive and complex issue of the role Old Testament Law plays in salvation, specifically regarding circumcision. Paul's main goal in his letter to the Galatians is to defend salvation by faith in Jesus, not by works of the Law. But in order to follow his argument and understand the good news he is sharing, we must grasp the true purpose of circumcision.
This sign was given to point to Abraham's future descendent who would be a blessing to all nations. That sign was fulfilled in Jesus. Therefore, faith in Jesus is the fulfillment of the command to be circumcised. As you meditate on this truth, along with its wider implications, we pray that the free and finished gift of the Gospel becomes more and more beautiful to you.

Be careful, this video can be very misleading. Note Galatians 3:19 (the law that was added) and compare with Romans 4:15 (where there is no law there is no transgression.)

what a great video! I grew up in an old covenant/law church and I got out but looking back at the damage it has done to my family and the extended family, the law has been a real curse on our family. I pray for them and every day I wait for someone in there to embrace Jesus. but I know that I am blessed now, Jesus has blessed my heart

Loved the video but I don't understand why that freakish looking tree in the background starts with 6 branches & then Jesus cuts it down to 4. It doesn't look like a cross so what's the symbology in regards with this? So basically what Galatians is saying is that. We become believers in Christ by having faith in him and worshiping him and not by trying to be righteous in every way possible through law?

Galatians is saying that the law was never intended to be THE way to salvation. Paul explains that no matter how hard I try to follow the law, it only exposes how deeply sinful I really am. I might succeed in parts, but I will never keep it perfectly. Thus, I need a Savior who can deliver me from sin. Jesus did this by laying down His life in place of mine, and because He WAS sinless, his death could count for others who were not (He didn’t die for His own sin, so who did He die for?). Galatians doesn’t negate the importance of obedience, it just puts it into perspective. Yes, followers of Jesus should try to align every part of their lives with His righteous command to love God and serve one another. The difference is that we do this BECAUSE we are saved and changed new creations, not as a means to EARN God’s approval.

Good job covering Galatians chapters 1-4; You captured the essence of those chapters, but you skipped or glossed over some very important practical messages in Galatians chapters 5-6, the practical application of freedom in Christ and Walking in the Spirit. There are few other places in the New Testament, where Paul more clearly covers the importance of “walking by the Spirit” than Galatians ch. 5&6. Suggestion, if you are going to purport to summarize “Galatians,” then please cover all the important themes in book; I think Chapter 5 needs to be included! Otherwise, the video should be re-titled Galatians Chapters 1-4 - the Dangers of another Gospel.

So what 10 commands do we not keep? We keep them all! The book of Galatians was written in the fact that the law of circumcision was done away with, having faith in Christ. That was the law of the flesh in the bondwoman. 👈🏾(symbolic) (Galatians 6:12-13 As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, these would compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. For not even those who are circumcised keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh.) To my understanding it's all about the flesh law, the law that's not of faith.

It’s a matter of perspective. We don’t do away with the 10 Words, but we follow them from a different motivation. It ceases to be “I must follow these to remain in God’s favor so I can go to heaven,” and instead becomes “Since Jesus secured my eternal future, I love to follow these since they lead to my best life and point others to Him!”

This is pretty accurate actually, because at least one place in scripture Paul mentions trusting a woman to deliver one of His messages to another church (I think it was Chloe, but I can’t recall 100%). People put Paul on a pedestal sometimes and imagine that he worked alone, but taking a closer look shows he had a team who traveled with him, taught alongside him, and assisted the churches he planted. I think it’s a great picture of the church and a reminder we need each other today!

The problem Is once you commit a sin, It’s only by faith in Christ, Which is only applied once God deposits the Holy Ghost in you That your sin is removed. The problem you have, Is Jews, Gentiles and modern day people. Don’t understand Works of The law, works at the flesh And living righteously Through obedience of your faith in Christ. Your Faith in Christ Is only recognized if God has Deposited the eternal Holy Ghost inside of you. At exact moment, Jesus sends The Holy Ghost to live within You, Is the exact moment Your sins are removed. You Become a new creature In Christ, In your spirit Becomes renewed and is joined with god’s spirit, AK the Holy Ghost. Your free will, Now has a helper The Holy Ghost To convict, Teach and guide you in all truth. The old man has passed away and all things become New. A Jew will give up all his Ceremonial laws, And a gentle who once Loved sin Will now love the Lord so much, And be subdued by God Spirit, And we live right according to the moral law of God. People Confuse The laws given just to Jews And The moral Laws given to all mankind. However, you must realize, Once you break a moral law, The blood of Christ can redeem you. That also doesn’t mean, Just because you’ve been redeemed and given a new spirit of holiness In Christ. That you can’t continue to sin And blame it on sin Nature. That is a false Doctrine that crept Into the church. People often site Paul, the book of Romans When he said, he was the chief of All sinners. Not understanding and correctly, dividing the book of Romans, when Paul was referring to his past life and current life. Would you have people unskillful in the word They incorrectly Divide the word of truth. What you hear is, From seminaries and pastors and their disciples is the same phrases and doctrines repeated out of context.

Where does Jesus say if you try to follow the law you'll be cursed? Living a sinful rebellious lifestyle ain't gonna do ya much good either. Paul was not a deity or an authority. You follow him to your own harm. Good luck.

Jesus Himself never said that, but He didn’t have to. It’s evident from the whole course of human history that the law (while it led to temporary blessing) never actually produced perfectly obedient people. The whole Old Testament is one long example of how the law failed to redeem and only exposed the deep sin problem in Israel. We should keep the law. Elsewhere, Paul says “Should we continue to sin, that grace may abound? Forbid it!” (my paraphrase). Paul’s message in Galatians is simply that obedience isn’t what saves us, but our gracious response of thanks to the One who does.
