So, you navigate to the store, see the new Galaxy and think, yeah this is the one I really want, but if we're honest, last year's phone is almost the same phone, so why pay more, right?
Well, this is one of those rare cases where it's not that simple. Right now if you want to buy last year's Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, the price has actually dropped to match the new S21 Ultra. I know! It makes no common sense, but it's been the usual trend where the Note has always been more expensive than the S because of the added features. I even read a few of your comments in my review stating that this new Ultra wasn't a worthy upgrade when compared to last year's Note. A statement I've historically agreed on for at least five years, given how much Samsung blurred the lines between both lineups.

I have expereniced both, but i decided to keep the Note 20 Ultra. Even if the internal is updated, there are some minor difference that make the Note more attractive. 1. The boxy desgin, it's so unique and elegant, the S is just the same as every phone out there. 2. The integrated S Pen, it really makes the S Pen more enjoyable to use, and remote shutter is actually a very really useful feature. 3. The aspect ratio, not many reviewers mentioned it, but the aspect ratio on Note is more comfortable, it fits most photos and videos better. The S is the common elongated desgin, the really usable screen size is noticeably smaller than the Note when watching most videos. 4. The weight difference is noticeable. Note 196g vs S 229g. For these reasons, at this point I consider Note 20 Ultra to be the better phone. I understand Samsung want to merge the two lines, but the Note should stay as the real flagship, the S Ultra can go and the S line can be moved down as the affordable flagship.

I still have an s8+ and will be upgrading to the Note 20 ultra for no other reason than it still has an sd card slot. I'm sick of Samsung following Apple's every move. If the next phones don't have the SD card slot brought back I might leave Samsung altogether for another brand that does or maybe downgrade to the A series. Neither I really want to have to do.

I have the N10+ and I think it was the last really good Note phone from Samsung. the N20 had problems when first released. I have learned a secret, go for the newest phone every 2 yrs, that way your current device will still have some trade-in value. So I'm keeping the N10+, waiting to see if there will be a N21 Ultra ?

Me too, but my screen recently broke, digitizer is jacked, and the cheapest screen I could find was around $210. I just decided to buy a refurbished LG thinQ for $170. They have very similar specs. I ain't spending th!t money on a damn screen. That what sucks about these new phones. The screens are insanely expensive.

On point tried the zfold2 recently after returning the S21 ultra with that case with s pen. None of them match the note 20 ultra. The z fold2 was awesome as long as you baby sit it. It’s heavy and very tough to handle outdoors. Going back to my note will look at the zfold3 if they can get the durability better cameras and offer bigger storage . S21 ultra is no note it’s a poser imo.

@@ashrimp4505 using an exynos n20u and I get 6 hours of screen on time with very high brightness and 120hz so it lasts all day for me. No performance or lag issues at all, everything is blazing fast. 0 to 100% charge in 1hr but usually I don't ever get below 20%. Phone gets a bit warm when gaming or using the camera for a long time but that's it. Most flagships get warm when doing intensive things like that. Got mine new at a heavy discount too so don't plan to change phones for quite some time now.

The only reason why I'm not using the Note 20 Ultra instead of the S21 Ultra is because the Exynos variants I have access to do have differences in performance. I get 12 gb ram with 128gb storage S21 Ultra instead of 8gb Ram and 256gb storage + expandable with Note. But I get Exynos 2100 instead of 990 and S21 has 5G enabled while the Note 20 Ultra is non-5g :'( gotta hate Mexican carriers for that

Great video, I'm in tbe market for a new phone and before I switched from my pixel to iphone I wanted to consider the notes. The only thing that is preventing me from getting the S21 is that the pen doesn't come with it and it doesn't have a slot for it...I know you mentioned it briefly in a video but do you mind doing one on the best pens and cases to go with this phone, especially since your predicting the notes might be a thing of the past. Still not convinced about the underdisplay fingerprint reader and no headphone jack. For those reasons Note 9 is still my main driver and still loving it.

Great comparison! I want to add one more thing. The other benefit for getting the S21 Ultra is the guaranteed 4 years of updates because of the Snapdragon 888 and Google's deal with Qualcomm. It is what made me buy the S21 Ultra over the Note. I like it a lot! 😁

Camera improvements on S21 Ultra are really worthwhile especially the front facing camera and skintone adjustments not to mention the zoom. And it is a little nicer in the hand. Texts are so much finer to read because of the screen resolution and fps. A definite upgrade.

Well, great comparison however it does miss out on few key lifestyle and feature points of the Note 20U compared to S21U- 1-MicroSD slot 2- In box charger and headphones 3-In box Bluetooth supported S-Pen (to take distance shots) 4-MST 5-Better looking body and larger display. 6-Slimmer and lighter. S21U indeed has improvements like marginally better performance (SD888 is a minor CPU upgrade over 865+) and slightly better cameras along with faster fingerprint scanner(all expected on a new release), but if specs are not in focus, N20U feels more premium and cool. Though Samsung copying Apple in specific decisions has started to become annoying.

I'm upgrading from Note10+ to S21 Ultra. Basically, my sole reason on waiting for the Note line is for S-pen, but with S21 Ultra, we have that now and don't have to wait until the second half of the year to get the new SoC. Also my main use of S-pen is for drawing and sketching, the small S-pen in the body of Note is unusable for prolonged session, so I see no reason to want an embedded S-pen personally. Besides, we got bigger battery as a bonus.

Hi Jaime, great video! I am a Note line fan so yeah...my opinion will be biased here :) My last S line device was S2, back in 2011 or so. Since then I switched to Note for 2 things mainly. 1 the Spen, 2 the massive screen!! Both features help me to carry on doing my business, when a laptop or a PC is not available. I use remote desktop, so controlling the mouse with Spen and click on tiny icons etc is a must have for me! Comparing the cameras in both phones, I did expect the S21U to have a better quality because the chipset is better. 888 > 865. But lets be honest, both are more or less equally great, and if anyone want to take professional pictures, they still need to buy a proper camera. If I had to choose between the N20U and the S21U based on the appearance, I would still go with the N20U. I love this design. I find the S21U a little bit too "childish" for my taste, while the N20U looks more "professional". The Samsung Android UI is very helpful and I do believe it's one of the main reasons, Samsung stands out from the competition. Their software is very user friendly and stable all day long. Samsung phones get a lot of negativity for the battery performance. My N20U lasts over 20hrs with around 4hrs - 5hrs OST with one full charge. I try to be sensible with charging cycles and do the 30%-70% charges, and I get from 70% to 30%, over 15hrs and 3hrs OST, which is good enough for my life style. The charging time is only 20minutes with 25watts chargers.

Since it's not a supported setting, the display will show as hd+, but the screens physically resolution will be 3087x1439. Pixel density will be around 480ish. Small hit on the battery, but it doesn't bother me.

Bluring the lines between the galaxy s line up and note series the same series is worth considering but I like the square of design with more screen to body ratio and a miss this time is a memory card slot expansion so that is that what is new and noteworthy is that we can use an s pen ✒with the galaxy series.... I simply cant justify losing having the S Pen inside the phone just to stick in on the side of the phone in a case. It seems to be such an inconvenience. If I buy a Note, I'm simply buying it for the S Pen. Everything else is optional.

@@peteranesu8870 good question. To be honest , it's not even really noticeable. It's like 3mm's. And to give context, I also have the iPhone 12 pro max- both of these phones have the same exact width when in their cases. I use the s21 ultra as my primary phone and I never notice the difference when switching back and forth between the s21 ultra and the iPhone 12 pro max. Another thing is - the s21 ultra has "one-handed mode " feature for anyone who wants to use a smaller amount of phone real estate. I never use it but it's available for those who want to use it. Especially people with smaller hands may use that feature. And like I mentioned above- having a bigger and thicker s pen is way better than having to use a much smaller s pen that's constricted in size because it has to fit inside of a skinny phone. I believe that if you want want be able able have a more ergonomic and better feeling s pen , it's a no brainer. I hope this helps !

I can only hope That I raise enough for the s21 ultra. If you can please let me know if the s21 ultra is worth the extra money, time and patience over the note 20 ultra

I loved my S21 Ultra for the short time I had it, my only 2 gripes are it's top heavy and they should've put the volume button on the left side, not the same side as the power button

I've been switching between the S and Note series since Note5 and I can say yes the note always has been superior, now I've moved from the Note9 to the S21U and I have to say the upgrade is a major go. I don't seem to miss the 3.5mm headphone jack. The performance of the S21U has been great and if compared to the Note 20 Ultra, I think it's just better in many aspects. Having the screen set to WQHD+ with 120Hz is amazing knowing the LTPO technology which is a more efficient panel (which means better battery life).

I have held onto my Note 8 for a number of years whilst waiting for 'something' from Samsung to tear me away from it. That 'something' is definitely the Note 20 Ultra and I will be upgrading soon. Expandable memory and dedicated S Pen are the preferential differences.

Very good comparison bro. I own the Note 20 Ultra and I agree with "most" of what you said, except the one thing that actually made up my mind when upgrading from the Note 10 Ultra...the screen. I think what sets this phone apart from ALL other phones is the size and fact the corners are NOT rounded. 🙃 I personally can't stand that look. I like how this phone has most square look (like a TV) and the curved sides I use to scroll all the time has a nice feel. Ok, that was my opinion I hope it helps. 😉

As a person who runs a KZbin channel and shoots 4k using a phone--I'm sticking with the Note. The SD card has proven so valuable for power users like me. The minor differences in camera quality are just that--minor.

I had the note 20ultra and it was solid and a brilliant phone. I was looking at all the reviews and watching closely the s21ultra reviews for weeks. I ended up with s21 ultra and honestly haven't looked back. Faster clearer and just bit more fun. Probably one if best phones I've bought. And s pen is optional and I can get one when I need one. Can't stop taking pics with my new phone and it looks amazing.

Just the note with a different design and less features. I’d rather have the functionality of a galaxy s 5. Removable back sd card slot ir blaster water resistant and no stupid under screen fingerprint scanner. Not to mention a headphone jack. That was peak Samsung. Edit it also had a great monitor which they removed last year with the s20 AND a flat display

There's one reason I would prefer the Note 20 Ultra long term (though I sold mine and got the S21U, I may back track on that later depending on if there is a Note 21 or not)...that reason? The boxy build a wider aspect ratio. SOOOO much more useful and nice to use.

100% agree with you..have both in my hands and I like the Note 20 Ultra better..the screen size difference feels definitely more than 0.1 inch. I think this is a Note advantage that is always overlooked in this reviews. The Note feels like a small tablet in your hand while the S21U feels like any other phone
