@@Not-to5kf The only things they really compete on are personal assistants (Bixby vs Google Assistant) and phones (Galaxy and non-flagships vs PIxels). Both companies are very diverse and have money tied up in many other ventures. Google's overlap with Samsung is a very minute part of their business, so I'd have to disagree with them being 'rivals at the fundamental level'. They compete in certain product areas but overall don't and can both benefit significantly by collaborating to benefit themselves in the areas they don't compete.

42:22 I was a firefighter. The Vision Pro comes in at about 22 oz, which is 1 lb, 6 oz (650 g). I used to wear a fire helmet that was about 56 oz (3.5 lbs as a naked helmet, though most firefighters have a flashlight, wedges, and other things on their helmet), or just under 3x as heavy, for hours while battling fires. I learned that balance was as important to the heavy “feel” as the weight itself. Both are heavy, but I wonder if the battery is moved to the back of the unit instead of your pocket if it would feel less heavy. I think you’re feeling the stretch in the back of your neck and that would lessen somewhat with better front/back balance.
@IronBran12310 ай бұрын
I think you’re onto something. Something that I really loved about the first PSVR is that they put a counterweight in the headband. It helped balance the weight and it didn’t feel like I had a brick on my face. When I bought my Quest 2, it was SO uncomfortable. It just had a fabric strap and it was so painful to wear for long periods of time. I bought the elite strap, which basically just looked like another counterweight headband similar to the PSVR, and I can now wear my Quest 2 for hours

Yeah but the helmet also wraps around your head and goes on top of it The vision is strapped on so most of the weight is focused on the front of the device and you don't really want it moving around or shaking on your head you want it to be pretty stiff in place when you're using it otherwise everything's going to be bouncing around in your vision

@@IronBran123 1000% also I got the elite strap with battery for quest 2 which I was originally con cearned was going to be a problem because of the extra weight. but I've never had an issue because yep it feels perfect tly balanced since the external battery is at the back of the head. The hard shell type bike helmet tightening ratchet thing of the elite strap is something I absolutely love and is a real game changer because of the comfort and security.

I think the nitpicking over the voice translation not being "live" doesn't take into consideration that with translating, you also have to consider the grammatical/word order conversion you have to do as well with people who speak a different language. That alone requires some latency for someone to finish a statement before you can properly translate. So i don't think "live" translation will ever be immediate, 1:1 as someone is talking.

Regarding Vision Pro feature questions: 1. The Quest allows you to stream live video to an iPad using their app. This proves extremely useful when friends demo the device, as you are able to walk them through how to use it. I’d imagine when you did your demos, Apple employees were able to see what you were looking at, but will that be available for consumers using Vision Pro, on Apple TV, for example? 2. I realize in your demos you were able to look at your own recorded spatial video from your iPhone 15 Pro, but I wonder: will spatial video recorded natively on the Vision Pro actually have a more pronounced 3D effect, as the distance between the lenses on the Vision Pro is farther than the distance between the lenses on the iPhone? 3. Does the Vision Pro allow you to accept phone calls like on a Mac or iPad, for example? How do they sound? 4. If logged in as a guest on the Vision Pro, what does iMessage or FaceTime do? Or if you’re letting a guest use your Vision Pro, how would you be able to share a spatial video with them for them to watch it while in guest mode? 5. I’m curious how the Eyesight feature would work for someone like Nick Fury, either with an eyepatch on, or with a disfigured eye (how does it display that?) 6. How do notifications appear? For example, if you’re in an immersive experience (like Disney+ at Avengers tower) and you receive a FaceTime or an iMessage, how does it appear? 7. To your point of the device being heavy, one highly requested feature on Quest is the ability to watch a movie while laying on your side (so the room perspective “rotates” 90°, does the Vision Pro allow you to do that? Thank you! Great job on the podcast, fellas!

about live translation, i don’t think what David is suggesting about taking a voice map and making it into different languages is not that big of a leap - it would be a HUGE advancement, languages are extremely complex and have so many unique and different sounds that change the meaning of words in different languages. some of these sounds we don’t even get close to making in english. i think it would have to be an extremely advanced program to take the sounds of english from an english voice map and make them all of the sounds of other languages.

And then once I got back to the Bag and tried to purchase with a different card, it was also declined. I know I had enough limit on both. My question is: What games will be available on the Vision Pro? I haven't heard anything about game announcements, but since reviewers keep alluding to games, I assume Apple has talked about that? Also, how much *does* the VP actually weigh? And what's the resolution? Refresh rate? Field of view? Is all this info still NDA'd?

Hi, I'm no Marcus and haven't used VP. However I try to answer from what I know: Facts: - they will give you some "experiences" that are interactive, but not games. Like virtual butterflies landing on your finger, and dinosaur roaring at you in 3D. It was in apple video that was just released. - they will allow you to play playstation 5 games. They said it on initial announcement. It is flat playstation games, with playstation dualsense joystic. You need to buy it separately. It will be a remote play. - it will have 23 million pixels resolution, 600-650 grams weight excluding battery in your pocket, 80-100 hz refresh rate. They have technical specifications. My opinion: Field of view probably will be around 100 degrees. Forget about the games here. This device is not for it. But there are VR headsets that are good with games

I wonder how much of the oddness with EyeSight is the fact that it only looks semi-normal when looking at the user straight on? Seems like whatever is displaying the user's eyes would need to be set at least an inch in front of where their eyes would normally be, so any slight off-angle look at the user suddenly shows their eyes as if they were a cartoon "gawking" forward, for lack of a better phrase. Humans might not be able to specifically call out what's wrong with an image, but we're incredibly adept at noticing when something is "off" -- the uncanny valley of digital actors is a perfect example of this.

Not having profiles is crazy... like the Vision Pro doesn't have a whole desktop chip, and macOS has had user accounts since... forever?

Just buy another one for another person 😂

Umm. Vision Pro weighs less than Quest Pro. And only 1/4lbs heavier than Quest 3. I like this weight thing is being overblown. Just like AirPods Max. All the journalists, including you guys, were very focused on the weight of AirPods Max when it was released. No one I know has any complaints about the weight of AirPods Max. I do understand the weight not being spread out with a battery in the rear makes it feel different. But you guys are making it seem like it is some crazy amount heavier than other VR headsets.

In the EU, India and Australia the S24 and S24+ come with an Exynos chip - not a SnapDragon

How can they be so wrong about processor in S24. It has Exynos version as well

It's heavy, but also, not really? Middle of the pack? VIVE Pro 2 @ 850g, Valve Index @ 810g, VIVE XR Elite @ 620g, Apple Vision Pro @ 600g.... Quest 3 @ 516g

i think US, Japan, SKorea & China will have SD 8Gen3 across the board. Rest of the World will have Exynos on S24 & S24+

I miss curved screens, yes there was off axis stuff but the feel when you swiped back and hand was so much better

Hear me out! The vision pro keyboard input should work like swipe keyboards do. I'm very sure it's possible. You can hold your finger pressed, look at the letters of a word in order and then release your fingers.

Personally I really struggled with the virtual keyboard but the eye tracking and tapping is quicker than a mouse or trackpad

'Typing with your eyes: I do that for six years now. I'm someone who has a severe physical disability and due to that I can't talk and can't use my hands. Prior to eye tracking I used to type (which is who I communicate also) on an on screen keyboard with my foot controlling a cursor. With that setup 'I could type 3 to 6 words per minute. Six years ago I discovered that eye tracking exists. With eye tracking I can type 20 WPM. To achieve this the dwell time (the amount of time that you need to fixate on one letter) is 200 ms. Any faster than that you select accidental letters when you move your eyes to the letter you want to type. So typing 50 wpm with eye tracking seems to be way too optimistic I think.' But I love to be mistaken!

As a 30 year old who was just hospitalised with pneumonia, blood oxygen levels very much matter. It's a shame my watch SE doesn't have that function

does browsing safari on the vision pro feel like browsing edge on an xbox? Like, useful to have in a pinch but you don't really want to use it often and it's way faster to search on your phone or laptop instead?
