@@Not-to5kf The only things they really compete on are personal assistants (Bixby vs Google Assistant) and phones (Galaxy and non-flagships vs PIxels). Both companies are very diverse and have money tied up in many other ventures. Google's overlap with Samsung is a very minute part of their business, so I'd have to disagree with them being 'rivals at the fundamental level'. They compete in certain product areas but overall don't and can both benefit significantly by collaborating to benefit themselves in the areas they don't compete.

I think the nitpicking over the voice translation not being "live" doesn't take into consideration that with translating, you also have to consider the grammatical/word order conversion you have to do as well with people who speak a different language. That alone requires some latency for someone to finish a statement before you can properly translate. So i don't think "live" translation will ever be immediate, 1:1 as someone is talking.

I’ve always been really into the idea of VR but never able to enjoy it fully despite owning the Quest 2, 3 and PSVR 2 because neither Meta nor PlayStation made these headsets with IPD ranges that incorporate my vision. The Vision Pro specs that were released this morning confirm that Apple’s focus on user experience and optics will create accessibility for people like me with narrower or wider IPD. I pre-ordered mine this morning

Regarding Vision Pro feature questions: 1. The Quest allows you to stream live video to an iPad using their app. This proves extremely useful when friends demo the device, as you are able to walk them through how to use it. I’d imagine when you did your demos, Apple employees were able to see what you were looking at, but will that be available for consumers using Vision Pro, on Apple TV, for example? 2. I realize in your demos you were able to look at your own recorded spatial video from your iPhone 15 Pro, but I wonder: will spatial video recorded natively on the Vision Pro actually have a more pronounced 3D effect, as the distance between the lenses on the Vision Pro is farther than the distance between the lenses on the iPhone? 3. Does the Vision Pro allow you to accept phone calls like on a Mac or iPad, for example? How do they sound? 4. If logged in as a guest on the Vision Pro, what does iMessage or FaceTime do? Or if you’re letting a guest use your Vision Pro, how would you be able to share a spatial video with them for them to watch it while in guest mode? 5. I’m curious how the Eyesight feature would work for someone like Nick Fury, either with an eyepatch on, or with a disfigured eye (how does it display that?) 6. How do notifications appear? For example, if you’re in an immersive experience (like Disney+ at Avengers tower) and you receive a FaceTime or an iMessage, how does it appear? 7. To your point of the device being heavy, one highly requested feature on Quest is the ability to watch a movie while laying on your side (so the room perspective “rotates” 90°, does the Vision Pro allow you to do that? Thank you! Great job on the podcast, fellas!

The pixel phones also show the search on screen option when you trigger Google assistant and you can select anything on the screen using the selection rectangle, and the search is instant too. I can see them adding more cool tech in the headband for the Apple Vision pro. I would not be surprised if 10 years from now we have Vision Pros that can literally read specific brain activity. ie: "typing" would become so that what you're thinking is what is being typed. Or you can insta-open browsers just by thinking about it.The tech already exists. It's just a matter of fine tuning it and commercializing it. I can also see how your iPhone/iPad can be a physical keywboard without necessarily needing a physical keyboard

Heres the problem with what David said at 7:40 ; in latin languages for example, the order of words in a sentences can be greatly different to the order of the words in the english version. For example, if you were to translate each word live without letting the sentence finish, "me duele la cabeza y no recordo ni papa" would be translated "myself hurt the head and no remember no potato" instead of an equivalent translation that would require the sentence to at least be translated by parts; "My head hurts and I can't remember a thing."

42:22 I was a firefighter. The Vision Pro comes in at about 22 oz, which is 1 lb, 6 oz (650 g). I used to wear a fire helmet that was about 56 oz (3.5 lbs as a naked helmet, though most firefighters have a flashlight, wedges, and other things on their helmet), or just under 3x as heavy, for hours while battling fires. I learned that balance was as important to the heavy “feel” as the weight itself. Both are heavy, but I wonder if the battery is moved to the back of the unit instead of your pocket if it would feel less heavy. I think you’re feeling the stretch in the back of your neck and that would lessen somewhat with better front/back balance.

I think you’re onto something. Something that I really loved about the first PSVR is that they put a counterweight in the headband. It helped balance the weight and it didn’t feel like I had a brick on my face. When I bought my Quest 2, it was SO uncomfortable. It just had a fabric strap and it was so painful to wear for long periods of time. I bought the elite strap, which basically just looked like another counterweight headband similar to the PSVR, and I can now wear my Quest 2 for hours

From an S22 ultra user, I think the S23 U would be the better buy for me. The AI stuff is adequate but the clause will expire in 2025. I am a curved display fan and reallylike how the curve is minimal on the S23 ultra

RE: Language translation in real time: It's probably not ever going to actually happen due to languages being structured differently. I'm sure there are some language pairings that are near-perfect 1:1 translations, but it's not particularly realistic.

I wish Samsung would make a smaller Ultra. Like how Apple has the big pro and the small pro. I want most of the ultra features but in like a 6.4 inch phone

I posted the same on X the other day. Like us with small hands are not allowed to enjoy Ultra features without having to carry a giant brick? I got the iPhone 14 Pro and love the size and the features although I am not an iOS fan

Not sure why Marques is saying it’s heavy like that when other VR he has used is heavier. I think it might be the fit more than anything. Also, the killer feature is AirPlay. It would be much cheaper to buy it than to buy multiple high quality big displays. Also, for adobe apps creatives like me, omg that capability makes the sky be the limit

It's the Eames Lounge chair designed by Ray and Charles Eames, the reason it's so renowned is that it was a huge step forward in manufacturing with their steam bent moulded plywood, plus it's just gorgeous. They were big into cheap, functional and beautiful design. love you guys love the show 👍

Want a Vision Pro so bad! But I'm UK based so I must wait a long time ☠️ I was wondering - there's no info on whether or not 2 or more Vision Pros can interface? Like say if 3 ppl are working on a project or watching a movie in the VR environments? It'd be cool to see Apple focus more on interactivity between Vision Pro devices as so far it seems to be a completely isolated, solo experience. I also read somewhere that when you're in full VR, it doesn't have complete free roam which I'm shocked at considering it's price tag??? Like it limits your movement to 1 - 1.5 meters which seems obscene considering VR gaming can require quite liberal movement within the virtual environments. I know AVP isn't gaming focused, but I'd have liked more freedom to explore their VR environments that they've created for watching movies and such. I'm in America next month just after it's release so I'm gonna try and sign up for a demo at the Apple Store 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Aw bad luck. Why don’t you get it when you’re here then? But yeah I think the first is possible. SharePlay should take care of that assuming the respective app supports it.

It’s hard to imagine instantaneous translation unless the AI can very accurately predict what the speaker will say next. I speak Japanese and the grammar kind of operates in the reverse of English so you don’t really know what’s being said until the verb shows up at the end of the sentence. But even a delay would be amazing.

about live translation, i don’t think what David is suggesting about taking a voice map and making it into different languages is not that big of a leap - it would be a HUGE advancement, languages are extremely complex and have so many unique and different sounds that change the meaning of words in different languages. some of these sounds we don’t even get close to making in english. i think it would have to be an extremely advanced program to take the sounds of english from an english voice map and make them all of the sounds of other languages.

Re: the Vision Pro, folks repeatedly mention "playing a game" on it, just as a general use-case and how that might be tough due to the weight. My question is: What games will be available on the Vision Pro? I haven't heard anything about game announcements, but since reviewers keep alluding to games, I assume Apple has talked about that? Also, how much *does* the VP actually weigh? And what's the resolution? Refresh rate? Field of view? Is all this info still NDA'd?
@MrKinein
@MrKinein 8 ай бұрын
Hi, I'm no Marcus and haven't used VP. However I try to answer from what I know: Facts: - they will give you some "experiences" that are interactive, but not games. Like virtual butterflies landing on your finger, and dinosaur roaring at you in 3D. It was in apple video that was just released. - they will allow you to play playstation 5 games. They said it on initial announcement. It is flat playstation games, with playstation dualsense joystic. You need to buy it separately. It will be a remote play. - it will have 23 million pixels resolution, 600-650 grams weight excluding battery in your pocket, 80-100 hz refresh rate. They have technical specifications. My opinion: Field of view probably will be around 100 degrees. Forget about the games here. This device is not for it. But there are VR headsets that are good with games

Feel like Apple is going to have to switch the materials to make it lighter for the next iteration . If you can’t use it for more than 30 minutes at a time sounds Ike a deal breaker to me especially at 3,500.
