Replaced my loudspeaker today following these instructions. Really appreciate your putting this up, and especially giving some of the reasons why you did some things in specific ways... really helps to understand it better. Thank you!

This is an excellent video. However, I feel it necessary to caution everybody against unexpected problems that may occur in refurbished phones. My refurb worked OK for a while, and then the speakerphone went out. I've done other repairs like this, so I decided to do the replacement myself. When I got to the step about adding heat and using multiple spudgers to remove the screen and its board, the process went OK for a while -- and then I suddenly got a crack in the screen. What I discovered was that I had been prying up the LCD itself, and not the whole board. (So that's one thing to be careful of.) By the time I got the phone open, the LCD was totally destroyed. The reason: the people who did the refurb, instead of following good practices like they do at iFixit, used GLUE to reassemble the phone! There were dribbles and lines of glue all over the inside of the unit. So it couldn't be opened up as shown in this video.

This video is extremely descriptive and SUPER helpful thank you so much for sharing! A couple tips you could of added and I recommend following are be very careful when taking off the lcd assembly. When you get to the front facing camera do not slide anything close to the actual lcd. Reason being is because the digitizer lies all the top of the lcd and is only held on by a thin copper foil. DO NOT DAMAGE THAT. Another tip I say to follow is keep the phone too hot touch when taking off the lcd assembly.

Thanks for the tips. I appreciate it.

+Usman Ali Yes hopefully that is the result. It may just be a connection issue but also sometimes the speakers just go bad.
@SmartEasyDIYer7 жыл бұрын
+Usman Ali Yeah I can’t say for sure if it’s a loudspeaker issue or a connection issue.
@SmartEasyDIYer7 жыл бұрын
+Usman Ali On the loudspeaker on where they contact inside there should be some contact points, maybe bend them up just a bit see if that helps.
@SmartEasyDIYer7 жыл бұрын
+Usman Ali it depends on your warranty. It’s worth a try if you have a warranty for sure.

Excellent tutorial. Almost every part of this video was easy to follow and the instructions were clear… The one part that could've been better- I couldn't see inside the phone during some parts. It would have been awesome if you shined a torch into the phone and brought it closer to the camera for the parts when you are putting the "spudge"/plastic prying tool into the inside, such as at 4:34 -at this point you say "as you can see" however in reality we can't see as it's too dark in there! Other than that, great tutorial, many thanks!

I just ordered the loud speaker and the adhesive for the screen. I can't find the waterproof rubber seal with the link you listed however. Does it serve another purpose than making my phone waterproof? I don't really mind if my phone is not waterproof anymore. Thank you for the video! I'm definitely going to try this before changing phone. :)

+Zabbriel Yes it's just for waterproofing. So you can skip it if you're not worried about it.

I'm pretty sure I have a bad flex cable that's connected to the loud speaker. is there a way to replace it without replacing the whole lcd? I'm not sure if replacing just the loud speaker would get it to start working. Any help is greatly appreciated! !
@SmartEasyDIYer9 жыл бұрын
I'm actually not sure what all is involved to get to the flex cable that goes too the speaker. I haven't ever had to replace one of those. The Galaxy s5 is one of the hardest phones I've taken apart though...

MAKE SURE TO USE EVEN HEAT! I did not have a hair dryer and thought I would take a short cut and use my radiator. Instead of prying out the whole LCD screen I was prying out just the top plastic portion which resulted in a complete crack of my phone's LCD since the adhesive was holding it down. I had a feeling I might screw up so I backed everything up but make sure you use a hair dryer as this guy says.
@SmartEasyDIYer6 жыл бұрын
Sorry about that. Yeah even heat is necessary to loosen the adhesive. Good thing you backed everything up.

Just be careful and watch in case the digitizer comes away from the front screen as it did on mine. Otherwise this becomes very expensive . And it's then cheaper to buy a second hand phone.

what happen to my phone coz every time i want to watch youtube or listening music via music play theres no sound at all and even when i call i need to loud speaker to hear the person in other line.i hope you will help
@SmartEasyDIYer8 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Alegre It sounds like different things to me for some reason. For during call your loudspeaker works but it doesn't for playing videos? If you can't hear on the earpiece during calls then it sounds like the earpiece speaker is bad. If you can't hear sound on video it sounds like a faulty loudspeaker. I'm not sure why it works great on a call though and not on video.. That's strange. Is there a chance you have a virus or corrupted software? Maybe do a hard reset on the phone if you back up your stuff and see if just doing that helps first.

I accidentally dropped my phone in some water, the speaker still kind of works, but says it's plugged into headphones, when it's not. it still works when i try to turn the volume up when i have the sound on for notifications, but it is a faint sound. How would i fix it so it stops saying the headphones are in, (Listening at a high volume for a long time may damage your hearing. The volume will be increased above safe levels) thats what it says, even though my headphones aren't plugged in.
@SmartEasyDIYer9 жыл бұрын
+Amber McCabe The interesting thing is your phone is supposed to be water proof.. I'm wondering first of all if you have any insurance on it?
@cousincouch9 жыл бұрын
I ended up fixing it, i took the vacuum to the speaker. and got the water out.
@Simion_T6 жыл бұрын
Probably Volume Up button connection is shorted due to water intake. Also because it says headphones connected when they're not, is due to water into headphones jack. Clean with a thin cotton bud inside, being very careful not to damage the connectors inside. If your S5 is still waterproof, next time plug a jack dust/water cover before taking it into water.
