You gave Apple a huge pass on the stylus front: the Pencil Pro is a $130 accessory, not included like the S-Pen. If you're looking at add-on pens, there are a lot of options for the S10. Not to mention the AI features, that I thought I was gonna forget about them and never use again, but some of them are actually usefull. The circle to search and that object generator are amazing! Artsy-wise, I think there is not much of a difference, but feature-wise Samsung (Android) is miles ahead. Oh, and the ecossystem... Unless you really need some apple exclusive apps, their ecossystem is totally overrated. There are some really impressive stuff you can do on Samsung's ecossystem that people dont even talk about. For instance, did you know that Quick Share is faster than Airdrop and you can share stuff with other devices and not just Samsungs (even with apple devices)? There is a whole lot of other features that people dont mention, and even Samsung fails to advertise properly.

I use my iPad every day, and here’s what I can say. Although this product has been on the market for a long time and plenty of great software is available for this undoubtedly fantastic device, it’s still a companion device. Alas!!! It’s very unfortunate and extremely frustrating that working with the file system is awful and inconvenient, apps constantly crash, and parts of the work often get lost… and that’s incredibly critical for a professional. I have to go back to my computer to complete some of the simplest tasks, just because my iPad, for some unknown reason, cannot handle them. For example, yesterday it stopped downloading my files from iCloud! What was that??? Or I can’t finish my work because the Affinity Designer app just closed by itself. I use m2 iPad Pro 2 tb. So can’t tell it is an old device. Thanks for your work!

One thing of note, in the accessories category, is you can actually buy the Apple Magic Keyboard case dealy ... So 3rd party cases it is - and yeah, I picked up a Royal Kludge mechanical keyboard to go with it for travel. The REAL deciding factor is if you are already an iOS or Android user. If you're already using/used to Apple stuff, the iPad is a no brainer. If you're an Android user, iPadOS will likely frustrate you because it won't work well with anything else you're using that isn't also an Apple product. The Galaxy at least works pretty well with other Android devices and most importantly your existing Windows computer. That's really, in my eyes, the biggest factor to consider. Otherwise, both are great premium options.

After trying the tab s9 and the s10, as well as the ipad in tech stores over the last few weeks, the s pen seems SIGNIFICANTLY worse than the apple pencil, even though I prefer the galaxy tab otherwise and really dislike i(Pad)OS even though I use macOS daily I don't know why my experience was so different from Brad's, but here's what I've noticed, if anyone is interested: The palm rejection works in a bit of an odd way on the Samsung devices - Whenever you move the pen close enough to the screen for it's position to be detected (when you can see that little circle), any and all touch input on the screen is disabled until you lift the pen again. This makes it effectively impossible to hold down the side shortcuts in clip studio to e.g. make a straight line or constrain the aspect ratio of a circle. Luckily you can set those shortcuts to toggle instead of holding them down or connect a bluetooth keyboard. But any action where you would use your finger and the pen at the same time, or even using a menu while you're still hovering over the screen, is impossible. This is _almost_ a disqualifying factor in my eyes, but depends on your usecase. The Apple Pencil does not have that issue, as well as being usable at shallower angles. Over all the Apple Pencil just felt better and more well-rounded when trying it out, epecially with it's weight and the haptic feedback. But it's also a 150€ addon to an already relatively expensive tablet. I tried it again after a while and the difference between the Samsung tablet and the ipad in terms of tilt is way more noticable to me now. The pen doesn't respond at all, if you use it at any angle past maybe 40 degrees off perpendicular, which makes it significantly more frustrating to use for both writing and drawing. The S10s the store had on display didn't have that issue. The store employee I asked said that that's the intended functionality for the S9 series - I'm not sure if I buy that though, because that seems like a significant enough issue that I can't imagine no reviewer mentioning it… One major benefit of any android tablet over an iPad in my eyes is having what I would consider a "real" filesystem where I can work with folders like on a dektop OS and granting Apps limited storage access where applicable instead of having apps siloed to the extent they are on Apple and giving each app it's own storage. As someone who would also read and annotate documents on a tablet, as well as moving around files quite a bit, this is very important to me. microSD is a huge bonus, too, of course. The iPad definitely seems like its ecosystem of apps is a lot more refined though. On the other hand I personally really like that Android feels so much closer to the level of control you have on a desktop OS, even after it became increasingly locked down in recent years. Idk, I just wanted to throw my thoughts out into the world, maybe they're useful to someone else.

Hey Brad, great review as usual. However I disagree with the overall result. IMO the one thing. that kind separate both device and makes a huge difference is the screen !!! Hear me out, the Samsung does not leaves fingerprints !!! You are able to draw without a glove, pinch and zoom without leaving fingerprints all over... It makes a huge difference because for those who don't like the "noise" effect that matte screen protector add to the device, you can actually get the Samsung tab without worrying. Plus you can choose the stylus... Wacom, Staedler, Lamy, S-Pen... Whereas on the iPad you only have one choice. For my part I use the Wacom One to pencil and the Staedler to ink, it's juste a matter of feeling but at least you can choose. I haven't tested the S-Pen Creator edition but apparently it kinda mimics the Apple Pencil. This being said, the problem with Samsung and Android tablets in general is the softwares... They are definitely not up to what you could find on iPads, but hopefully Procreate could get on Android devices soon.

Lightroom also took up storage even though I deleted the RAW files. So, now and then I had to reinstall Lightroom. I know, luxury problem but every second counts. And this is not supposed to be fixed on M4. Enough rambling. Questions: 1. How does it handle Lightroom? 2. How is the import/export speed? 3. Battery life on full power, is it as good as iPad Pro? I'm using Wacom Art Pen on PC in Rebelle, so I'm spoiled with that option :) Thank you in advance.

Why dont they just combine the two aspect ratios to become a 3:2 display? Its what we see a ton of in traditional media anyway. 16x24, 24x36 - companies that supply mixed media paper and canvases have been supplying these in bulk for ages. The transition has been getting easier. Why stop at 16:10?
@kiisseli1337Ай бұрын
Yeah it's the best aspect ratio IMO. There are lots of chinese 3:2 tablets though. Apple should make 13.5" (or bigger) 3:2 iPad Pro. 11" iPad Pro is 3:2.

Really good review. Very unbiased through the lens of an artist. I'm more samsung, but that's because I have samsung phones and a Windows laptop. I plug my tablet into my TV to use as a media center so dex makes more sense. (Anyone remember WebTV or just me? Lol Eventually, I will be getting a TV that I can wirelessly cast dex to.) Also, audio production is nicer on 16:10 screen. Audio production apps are technically better on Apple, but both are great if you know how to navigate.

I have a galaxy tab s9+ and recently bought the newest ipad with every possible upgrade, specifically for zbrush. I figured I would move over to ipad but hounestly I hate the operating system, so now I am using the ipad for zbrush and my galaxy for everything else. I had been excited to try procreate finaly but I found that I prefer clip studio. I did buy a stand so now I can watch videos on one while I sculpt on the other on the couch and that has been nice. I do like the apple pencil though!

Personally i would . Keep in mind that I have a deep seated hatred for apple and i have used galaxy tabs, phone , and laptops for a long time so i am very bias. I did try to keep an open mind since i spent 3k on the tablet but the interface just feels clunky to me. It's worth 3k just as a zbrush device though, at least for me.

Tab S10's SoC this year seems like has issue about battery management, it is observably has less device up-time than last year Tab S9 and it has some issue with 5G variants. In the end, if you are working in the creative, iPad will be your best investment for at least next 3 years. This is coming from Galaxy Tab S9 user. I chose Galaxy Tab S9 because it was cheaper, came with S-Pen, and expandable storage. I need S-Pen for note taking at best. I always wonder why Samsung won't follow Apple by giving more square-ish screen ratio.

@redford4everАй бұрын
IMO the ratio is actually quite a big thing in favor of iPad. You will use all of the vertical space in landscape mode while drawing, but you very rarely use the side space in this setup. If I am using a 16/9 format I will have to make a layout in CS Paint with a great deal of palette displayed at all time on the left or this will be completely wasted. Also if I use a timeline, this will need to eat on the whole available height no matter what, oof. Unfortunately Apple being dumb ruined that a bit by having a mandatory line taken just for its frigging multi task controller. Offering us to trade something useful 99,9% of the use time for something useful 0.1% of the use time. Genius designers, really. OTOH the current pricing of iPad is horrible, with you having to pay extra for the version that has the best drawing texture and apparently some $500 tablet have a better one. If Pro Create Dream reach *actual* 1.0 though it could be a final cut reason all by itself. Also suspect this one will be harder to copy than pro create.
@CallMeRabbitzUSVIАй бұрын
I think you are for forgetting that the S10 Ultra has a screen that is just as high and much wider. You aren't sacrificing any screen since you are getting more on the horizontal and the same vertical space. And with that the S10 Ultra wins overall
@redford4everАй бұрын
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI Oh I know that. But I have the iPad and i am patiently waiting for something operationally bigger and S10 isn't. It has more surface, but not really more surface that I can actually use. Unfortunately Samsung will never embrace the best format for artist, so we have to wait for Apple to actually release a 15inch iPad pro which they're taking they're damn sweet time to do. Or maybo some other brand will do it. We'll see.
@theinkticianАй бұрын
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI No. Neither is great imo but the ipad does have a bit more flexibility. the microSD on android is very overrated by reviewers who themselves probably got the 1/2 TB internal storage version. I use a Galaxy Tab with the ability to use a MicroSD slot. Most apps won't move to it. some apps will move but keep crashing. You can't store app cache or data on it. the app MUST BE itself on the card to store its data there. so my large PDFs on Adobe Acrobat are just accumulating on internal storage. you even have to keep moving your files manually to the microSD card. the only app that can automatically save data to the microSD is the camera.

I've always used pc/laptop+graphics tablet for digital art (wich I do as a hobby, not as my actual job), but I've been thinking on switching to a more portable set up and getting a tablet. I'm a windows and android user, wich, together with the price tag, makes me a bit more inclined to a Samsung tab. But I'm wondering about durability. I'd rather not be *forced* to buy a full new device in say 6 or 7 years (I've had my current laptop for almost 10, and only in the last year or so it is really feeling old). I guess the Ipad is more durable, both hardware and support-wise, am I correct? Is there a big difference in this aspect? Either way lately I've wondered if maybe the best would be to break the piggy bank and just get a nice 2 in 1 (of which we need an updated Brad Colbow ranking, IMHO). Now I'm so lost! 😅
