I am SO impressed with you guys. I usually don't comment on YT boat tip videos because usually the tips are not the best practices. You have such a deft touch, you are so in tune with your boat. These are the things I've been teaching my now 11 year old daughter. Take your time, it's not a race, plan your moves, it's not going to react immediately like a car. Read the wind and current. I'm curious, how long have you been boating and how did you learn? Loved this, I'm going to subscribe to this channel.

Thanks so much for this tutorial. I have tried to get my 26 ft boat with twin 225 Yamaha's lined up with my boat lift (usually by myself) and I didn't really understand about the better control while backing. This will also come in handy when docking at a restaurant or even getting gas at a crowded marina. I need to spend more time practicing and definitely will watch this video over and over. When the wind or current happens, my tendency is to panic and overcompensate but now I know not to be heavy on the forward throttle. I agree with thegrtwhthunter that it is nice to see two beautiful young ladies educate rather than be exploited in string bikinis!

Excellent video, definitely learned a ton since my dual engine experience is in the single digit hour range. Would like to point out that the reason that the forward running engine has more influence at lower RPM's is because of the propeller design. The propellers are designed to push water most efficiently going forward through how the water flow is introduced to the blades, the pitch, and the slope and even a small amount of flair at the blade edge. Turned in reverse fashion they do still move water but with nowhere near as much efficiency and thrust as forward. So that's why you need more RPM in reverse to get equal amounts of thrust as the forward running prop. Neat video idea if nobody has done it: Source a sort of junky boat and motor combo (because it just might cavitate and blow up or even break the blades off), mill the propeller down so that it fits on backwards, compare forward performance with it on correctly with reverse as well as driving forward and reverse. Should be awful but entertaining. :-)

Good job girls..........the only thing to add was why you said the motor in reverse needs more throttle than one in forward. It’s because the pitch of the prop is designed to go forward, not reverse. It’s much more efficient going forward.
