Hi again ladies talking about the jig and chunk bait use in the Gulf of Mexico. I have used this method for years here in SWFL and I was troubled by the thought that I was using an illegal set up all these years. I have talked to a few local captains here and they explained it this way to me. The jig is considered a lure and that is why it's use is not restricted like a normal J hook as per the FWC code that you sent me. Again this is a quest for knowledge nothing else. I really enjoy your channel and look forward to seeing a lot more content keep up the great work because I really enjoy your videos and really I enjoy your teaching videos. Thank your for what you do Jay

Why is the jig setup illegal in the gulf? Is it because of the jig won't devolve in the saltwater? Amanda, Emily tell me why please. Thanks 😊 for the video, you guys are awesome #AFANALWAYS
@SGTSARGE4 жыл бұрын
In the gulf of mexico whenever you are targeting reef fish with live or dead bait law requires the use of circle hooks.
@GaleForceTwins4 жыл бұрын
FWC prefers circle hooks in the Gulf which means that the fish doesn't get gut hooked so if you were to release it the fish will have a better chance at living.
@GroundedFlyboy7374 жыл бұрын
Thanks Amanda, where could I read more about what rigs, tackle configurations, etc are illegal in the Gulf of Mexico? IOW, are J hooks not allowed anywhere in the Gulf? Thx
Thank you for the tips I am in Australia what fish do you recomend I try here as I have not heard off bally boo.

almost everything used in your area is just so much bigger there. I wish you two would come to the pacific northwest, like Humboldt County or the san juan Islands in Washington state. I think you would both love it here...... But besides the weather I might visit there, in the winter when it's a lot cooler, like the 70s or low 80s...lol. 😉

Were these ballyhoo frozen? I have never used ballyhoo but sardines and other white bait that I have used always fall apart too easily if they were frozen.
@GaleForceTwins4 жыл бұрын
Yes they were frozen!
@SGTSARGE4 жыл бұрын
@@GaleForceTwins Do frozen ballyhoo stay on the hook better than a frozen sardine would? If they do then I might be buying the wrong bait. Also have you ever tried brining your bait?
@PracticeMakesPaper2 ай бұрын
@@SGTSARGEYeah Ballyhoo is a much tougher meat; stays on the hook even better than squid; its the only frozen bait worth buying imo

The first rig is what I’ve always called a Carolina rig. What’s the reason for the first leader, the one before the swivel? I use those rigs a lot but the only leader I use is from the swivel to the hook. Thanks
@SpamMusubi3084 жыл бұрын
That's what I've always called that style rig, although the bead is optional I use them to protect the knot from the sinker or slider.
@edx21x4 жыл бұрын
Spam Musubi I use the bead, I’m talking about the first leader that runs to the swivel. The wind on leader. I don’t understand that but I’m an inshore angler so I guess this is an off shore thing.
@SpamMusubi3084 жыл бұрын
@@edx21x oh! Sorry about that. From the mainline there's a section of line refer to as a wind on leader it's used as a shock leader also it makes connecting hardware to mainline easier quicker. Hopefully this clears up the confusion. Good luck tight lines.
@edx21x4 жыл бұрын
Spam Musubi Ok, cool. Thanks for the reply
@GaleForceTwins4 жыл бұрын
I Ed, we call them Carolina rigs too they have more than one name I guess. There are several reasons for the first leader that I know of. One of them is when you are fishing more than one Caroline rig on the boat (especially head boats) and you get tangled its much easier to cut or detangle mono than braid. The other reason is its easier to replace to mono when your sinker is constantly rubbing on the mono, if the sinker is rubbing on braid it wears it down over time and is more expensive to replace.
