Here's a video we did showing how to replace and reset a battery in a Gallagher Smartfix Fault finder. Most times when changing out the battery and just putting it straight in, it doesn't work and you have to do a reset on it. This video will explain and show you how to do it.

THANK YOU for this video! This REALLY helped, especially the "reset" option because the battery that was in there originally was at 3.01 volts and the new one out of the package was 3.11 volts. I ended up using the new battery (the old one was 3 years old), but I did have to do the screwdriver "reset". Much appreciate the video. Unfortunately, I did not consult this video soon enough because I went RIGHT for that large Phillips screw and the spring popped out. It didn't go very far, and I was able to put it back together.

Glad I could help. Those are pretty good testers. Besides replacing a battery and doing the reset at the time, those don't hardly ever go bad, except for when they get left outside and water gets to the board.

I have this old version for over 20 years now. Works well on the voltage but suddenly it does not indicate the direction anymore. 0.0 Amps where ever I try.. Battery is 1 year old. Had to change it every 4-5years. Any hints? Thank You.

Something is going on with the board inside. At the top edge of the board is a little round black component soldered to the board. That's some sort of inductor that does the fault finding and everything through inductance. Sometimes that piece will come loose from the board and needs to be soldered back on. If that's floating around inside, you can try and resolder it, just be careful and don't mess three board up too much or you'll have to just replace the board. Or if you want, just send me the tester directly and I'll go though it and try and get it going.

@@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity It was exactly like you said. One contact of the black inductor on the top was loose. You can't see if your'e not looking for. Little soldering job, now it works perfect again. This was priceless. Thank you so much!

That's really good to hear that's all it was. It's not too common that happens, but over time it can. The latter versions of that unit had some sort of gob of sticky tack glue looking stuff on the front side right across the lead to help keep that thing from moving. Send me a check lol
