Storey's model of human resource management (HRM) is a framework that identifies four different types of HRM, which he calls ideal types. The four types are the human resource management model, the strategic HRM model, the high-performance HRM model, and the traditional HRM model.
The human resource management model emphasizes the importance of treating employees as valued assets of the organization. It involves creating a supportive and flexible working environment that encourages employee development and empowerment.
The strategic HRM model emphasizes the alignment of HR policies and practices with the overall strategy of the organization. It involves ensuring that HR practices are integrated with the overall business strategy to achieve organizational goals.
The high-performance HRM model emphasizes the importance of creating a high-performance work culture that encourages employees to perform at their best. It involves providing employees with the necessary resources and support to achieve their full potential.
The traditional HRM model emphasizes the administrative aspects of HR, such as payroll and employee records. It involves ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations and providing basic benefits and compensation to employees.
Storey's model provides a useful framework for understanding the different approaches to HRM and the different goals and objectives that each approach seeks to achieve. By understanding the different types of HRM, organizations can better tailor their HR policies and practices to meet their specific needs and goals.
