I visited visited Fez last year. I loved it! The food, the people and places I went were awesome. I was fortunate to stay with my fiancé and be with his family. I attended a traditional Moroccan wedding, which was his brother’s. I was so lucky and grateful to have a “personal” guide 😀 ❤️

very good, and that extra is BS, 4 dollars like you said is a meal, i m moroccan and it happened to me several times, but like they add two dollars for extras , you just could say no , i didnt order this and they wont argue, for the tipping it s not obligatory in morocco, but i always tip the waiter half euro wich is 5 dirhams wich is a good tipe in morocco, if you dont want to, you dont have to, it s not necessary at all, it s just rewarding the guy if he did a great job

The extra charges are just normal in some cultures, but even in the states I get so frustrated with having to ad tax and tips to an initial lower number, in DK it's all included so simple ha ha:) My friend and I spend 10 days in Morrocco a few years back and loved the Tagine's after those 10 days we were all Tagin'ed out though ha ha:)

I totally feel like you should be told if its being charged and they shouldn't automatically bring it to the table and charge you. But we didn't have this problem in Morocco again. The bread came with the meal every time with no extra charge. So I think this place was just hoping that we wouldn't notice. -Ash

One Girl One Suitcase (Maria Storgaard) Extra charges are normal in italy as well, you have to pay 2 or 3 euros per person for the service. And so it is in portugal, you have to pay extra for bread and water. I am maroccan and I know it's normal to pay for bread...but not for the service :-/

Service charge, plate charge as this is from French Culture . but these is not Extra tax to pay like in USA..Most hotel in usa charge 20% to 30% to cover the taxes.. 2 or 3 dollars is really no much in this case. Think about as TIPs

Morocco is multi-ethnic with a rich culture and civilization. Throughout the Moroccan history, this country has hosted many people from the East (Phoenicians, Jews and Arabs), from the south (Sub-Saharan Africa), and from the north (Romans, Londal, Mor and Jews). All of these groups had an impact on the social structure of Morocco, which included many beliefs, such as Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Each Moroccan region has its own characteristics and contributes to the creation of a mosaic of Morocco's cultural and cultural heritage. The Kingdom has placed its priorities in preserving its cultural heritage and protecting its diversity and privacy.

The extra charges for bread is very normal in Morocco, even the locals pay for that. In regards to service charge all restaurants should have it to pay for the overheads, you got ripped off in the first place you ate so they won't add the service charge or even mention the charge for the bread because they're already making mass profit from you, the good thing is that they know they're ripping you off so they'll always give you a large portion, hence the size difference between the two places.

first Ashley your shirt is so pretty, second one of the languages you may experience is Kabyl, very old and in danger of extinction, third your restaurant experience was the "keep your eyes open" kind of cultural warning I gave before...from my experience there is a high need to "save face" in that part of the world and they hope for that in YOU with their extra/hidden charges , that you would not argue or question and go ahead and pay anyway just to "save face"...continue to keep your eyes open! Stay wise and safe! xo

I am a Moroccan American, just want to thank you for showing my mother land for what it really is, not for what the American fake news is showing to the people, that all Muslim countries hate the west because Of their liberties . Which is the biggest lie in the history of men. We are just normal people, if we are any thing different from the west , we respect all races and ethnicities, we believe That all men are created equal, and we are modest and mind our business. And we don't think we are masters of the world just because we contributed to the human scientific heritage only during the last on hundred years. The Muslim scientists have collected all the primitive sciences left by the human race for thousands of years, and transformed it, to create the foundation of what is known to day as modern science, the science that the west brag about day and night. Starting from math to physics to chemistry to medicine to astronomy and much much more.

Medina actually means 'city' in Turkish-Arabic. Also the origin for the word 'Medeniyet' in Ottoman Turkish, which means 'civilization'. Quite an important word in Islamic literature as well, Madina being the 'city' that prophet Muhammed migrated to after leaving Mecca because of political struggles.

If you head to Marrakech, don't miss tasting these special plates : " ATTanjia " (meat nicely cooked) (around 20 usd for 2kilos of meat) , " Albissara " (nice soup) (very cheap) , I have some acquaintances there if you want cheap (yet nice) formulas for everything (rent, food, etc.). marrakech, mind you, is - touristically speaking - "worse" than Fès ^^ (if you see what I mean, > Josh ) if you have the idea of renting a car here (it's around 30 usd a day average)

i gotta say ! GOOD vlog, BUT u took the wrong decision of going to Morocco without having a plan or hiring a local guide. the old medinas of Morocco and especially Fez and marrakesh are ones of the most complicated urban areas to visit without a guide, mainly because of its resemblance to a Maze haha. because otherwise you end up missing out on so many important sites that Fez is mainly known for.

We enjoyed trying to find our way through the streets.:) It was like a maze and many times we came to a dead end. haha I can see where a guide would for sure help but I think we were able to see many of the main attractions. -Ash

actually all the appetizers that are given in moroccan restaurants and the bread are not extra (except for special breads that you order) because normally with a tagine the bread is given automaticly, it's just unfortunate that you came thru a dishonest person !! police is always trying to fight against this kind of dishonest practices (you can face them in taxis, some restaurants, some shops ...) but you can't get them all !!

Hahah There was a guy there that made it look so easy but it seems he is the only one that could do it. We figured it was a scam but no harm in trying haha. -Ash
