Finally, here are some of my thoughts on the amazing Allmother Narwa theme from Monster Hunter Rise. This theme brings so much emotional weight to the final fight with the Allmother. It's a worthy pay off to all the emotional build up that was made with the Ibushi and Narwa fights.

Be aware that most World battle themes have a mount version. Most of them seem to just add bongo's (and who doesn't like bongo's?) but other songs such as "Nay, the honour is ours!" has chanting, or Zinogre's which has a drum kit.

I'm gonna just throw a guess and say Vaal Hazak. Honestly even though the only way to bring it back would be Generations' Shagaru Magala style, I'd be perfectly cool with that since it has a beautiful design, beautiful gear, a fun if presently none too difficult fight(and that's okay!) and of course a beautiful score that captures both the mystery and confusion, like you're lost in a jungle, with the main riff, and a sort of nostalgic-sounding (to me, it reminds me of both the Coronation Street theme and La Vie En Rose) strings bit that makes me think of the countless cycles of death and rebirth that Vaal Hazak sees, perhaps leading it to have a very distanced, ho-hum perspective on death.

They didn't just make the chorus half Ibushi's theme and half Narwa's theme. They actually played both choruses at the same time, it's just that different parts stand out more based on how they were written. I love how this song finally puts that puzzle together - that Ibushi and Narwa have choruses that are made to work together - while the listener may have not even noticed that it was even a puzzle to begin with. It's what makes Ibushi and Narwa my favorite final bosses of any Monster Hunter game.

Also, i love how they used a bit of MH3 Tri theme on narwa's theme, which as davi says, you can hear through the whole games it's good for the fans but for me it means that Monster Hunter will now get back to it's roots in a term of symbolism we're not hunter because we love to kills, we are hunters because we have to balanced the Eco-system and nature

The music here honestly accentuating something I have personally noticed with concerns to the hunt against Narwa the Allmother. After Ibushi is once again bested by the Hunter, to which in his case is sent tumbling into the cavern below, Narwa, after seeing the state in which he is in, does the unthinkable. In an act of mercy, she kills Ibushi, taking his power for her own in which to significantly magnify her own in a desperate gambit to kill the Hunter. The narrative of the music reflects what has transpired, Narwa having to look at a presumably mortally injured and battered Ibushi, who had failed to drive out or kill the Hunter, is forced to end his suffering, and she turns Ibushi's anger and and her own pain directly to the Hunter in a furious and frenzied last ditch effort to finish what Ibushi could not.

Just one thing: even through the sadness and revenge, their plan worked. During the fight Narwa is pregnant with their offspring. She's not fighting just for Ibushi, but for their children as well. A few monsters are evil in this series. Definitely Fatalis, the Alatreon that appears in World can be considered as such, but all those evil monsters are kind of one note. They're consumed by their evil, built around it, they make it their existence to hate and destroy. Narwa and Ibushi, too, are evil, but compared to the others they're evil because they're sapient, not because of any deep hatred of life or humanity. They consciously make the decision to potentially rid the world of life so that their children may live in the perfect world. It's so... Human.

@@LazarusGamingandDiscussion Yes, but its only interaction with the world is pure hatred for humanity. It has no other goal that isn't the extinction of humans, and when it's not destroying kingdoms it's sleeping in the rubble of one. It developed this hatred through sentience, but it's been consumed by it. Hell, it's so much a part of Fatalis that even its dismembered corpse tries to kill its wearer. Narwa and Ibushi, on the other hand, are the only monsters to show sentience *and* other emotions. They still have a deep hatred of humans, but it's not all consuming like Fatalis'. Even when Ibushi is killed, the theme doesn't sound like it's about the Allmother's hatred of his killers, but more about Narwa's sadness and determination in achieving their objective, which is not just blindly murdering everything that moves and isn't them.

I'm late to the party, but just to clarify everyone that the JP Voice Actress of Hinoa and Minoto are Not the actual singers for Ibushi's and Narwa's theme songs. It's just a common mistake made by people. The one who sung the lyrics in "Kamura's Song of Purification" and "Breath of Ire" is Izumi Kato, Hinoa is the one who sung it in game. While the one who sung the lyrics in "Brave Hunters" and "Lady of Lightning" is Kanae Miyazaki, Minoto is the one who sung those songs in game. There's a video in Monster Hunter channel revealing the actual singers for those songs. Titled as "Monster Hunter Rise - Making of the Soundtrack".

2:02 I always imagine these two in more human forms to properly express the tragedy of the situation 2:02 Ibushi is lying on the ground, fading fast, and Narwa comes and holds him in her arms, lamenting her imminent loss. 2:07 Ibushi motions to Narwa in a sort of “take my blood” kind of way, and Narwa bites into him like a vampire. (3:28) 3:36 Narwa takes Ibushi’s life force, and, overcome by rage and sadness, explodes with incredible power.
@fang609
@fang609 2 жыл бұрын
This theme man...I hold it up there right up with the legendary themes of the series. Yes even the original Proof Of A Hero. And theres soooooo much to unpack in this one. The into of the song is sad and slow, and when this bit plays Ibushi has fallen down in the cave and he makes a call that he doesnt usally,while Narwa has back away to the corner away from him and the hunter and is silent.Then she comes near to him and kills him with a swift and clean bite in the stomach. This is bassicaly Ibushi sacrificing himself. His dying,his queen is in a bad shape due to her encounter with the hunter and also starving while she was down in the cave and their future children are in danger. So he gives the last of his energy to his queen to give her a last chance to save herself and protect their young. And yet with how she floats a bit closer to the ground before droping Ibushi you still see the love she has for him even tho his dead now. When she combines his powers with hers is when the song trually kicks in. And you can really see the mix of Ibushis and Narwas theme, with Hinoa singing as if represing Ibushis soul,his flute is louder and more agressive (and you can even see that in Narwas movements and attacks in the fight,shes more agressive,faster,doesnt really seem to care when you flinch her,and will atack all scavengers that Ibushis corpse atracts.Like Magnamalo and the other elders) ,been fulled by Ibushis rage,and Narwas instruments blending in and becoming more obvious when Minoto sings,and again they make this "dun dun dun" sound that feels like represents her lightning And then the chorus kicks in and...Drea God its so beautiful...They mixed everything about them so well. It has grandness,love,devinity and sadness. A final goodbye to the great Golden Mother of Lighting and the Azure Father of Wind. And yes this theme did make me tear up a few times when I first heard it cause imagening Narwa and Ibushi dancing and singing to eachother on top of a snow caped dormant volcano with clouds,lighting,snow and cherry blossom pettals spining around them and a single big beam of light on them in the center of their storm was too beautiful

4:46 probably no correlation but this sequence of chords makes me think of Ibushi alone, Narwa alone, Ibushi and Narwa together, and then Ibushi's death. I’ve seen 2 types of comments in other videos saying that either Ibushi was just Narwa’s prey so she could get stronger which is a good theory considering the Stealos Queen kinda does the same thing but the other type which I 100% believe is the grief and remorse of losing her mate, Both Ibushi and Narwa probably have some kinda of telepathy to talk to each other or just natural nature instinct and Ibushi telling Narwa to take his life and power so she can avenge him and when she does that power uprising of the music showing her rage and intent for revenge but then a small slow sad chord right after that uprising setting in that grief of her dead mate

Apart from the bit about the chorus transitioning from Ibushi's theme to Narwa's (and some iffy chord transcriptions early on), this is a pretty competent analysis. What I'll say as a composer myself: I've always been of the opinion that music is the supreme expressive medium, and thus it is the most important factor in setting the scene in any audio-visual medium, such as video games. Here, with both the individual Serpent themes and the Allmother theme, I personally feel that, without these tracks, you would have no way of truly UNDERSTANDING the Serpents. The music that accompanies their fights is 90% of what defines their character, and with the inherent desperation and tension present in all three coupled with how they speak through the Maidens, you get a sense that these themes are their way of saying "Listen to me. This is who I am." And that right there lends a deeply personal air to both them in general and their fights.

*MH Lore: Narwa the Allmother* "Name: Narwa the Allmother (百竜ノ淵源ナルハタタヒメ) Title: Thunder God Dragon (雷神龍)/Source of the Rampage Length: 3875.05cm Height: 1905.02cm Order: Elder Dragon Suborder: Deity Dragon Family: Unknown Habitats: Unknown" "Ibushi and Narwa were ultimately defeated by the "Fierce," and it seemed that the Rampage had finally ended. Ibushi was repelled in the Stronghold (It was assumed that he would eventually die from his injuries), while Narwa fell into a deep crater and presumably died." "After Narwa was defeated, the Guild sent out scouts to find and recover her body, but she was nowhere to be found..." "During Kamura's celebration, Ibushi and Narwa once again resonated with Hinoa and Minoto. Wind Serpent Ibushi and Thunder Serpent Narwa were very much alive, and they were ready to destroy the land so they could bring forth the next generation of Storm Serpents." "Both serpents had retreated for now to recover from their injuries (Ibushi's injuries were more serious), and while they did remain hidden for quite some time, their presence could still be felt across the land by other monsters." "During this reprieve period, Ibushi and Narwa's activities caused numerous powerful monsters to start appearing (Apex Monsters and Elder Dragons) in the region. What would happen if those two actually met each other?" "Ibushi hid somewhere around the Coral Palace after his battle in the Stronghold (He stayed there for quite a while as he recovered from his injuries), and Narwa went there to find him (Chances are Narwa might've been protecting Ibushi during that first fight in the Coral Palace)." "Ibushi and Narwa had reunited before the Guild could find them, meaning it was only a matter of time before the land was filled with the next generation of Storm Serpents. The Fierce was asked to face off against the duo one more to end the Rampage, once and for all." "Ibushi and Narwa had mated before anyone could find their current location. While Narwa was hiding in her nest as she prepared to lay her eggs, Ibushi was flying around guarding her and the nest." "Although Ibushi had time to recover from his injuries, he was still greatly weakened after that battle at the Stronghold (That's why he goes down so easily during the Allmother quest). Ibushi fought through the pain to protect his mate and his unborn offspring, but he was too weak to overcome the Fierce's onslaught." "After sustaining a large amount of damage from the Fierce, Ibushi fell out of the sky and into Narwa's nest. Ibushi failed to protect his mate and young... He didn't have enough strength to continue fighting, so he made a tough decision. Seemingly, Ibushi told Narwa to devour him and take his powers, and she did what he asked (Whether he really did that or not is up to interpretation). The two became the one known as "Allmother"." "Narwa the Allmother is a Variant of Narwa that came to be after Thunder Serpent Narwa devoured Wind Serpent Ibushi. While Ibushi is the first line of defense against enemies, Narwa is the last line of defense. Ibushi couldn't protect his family from danger, so Narwa sucked out his body fluids and made his power her own. Narwa did this as last ditch effort to protect herself and their offspring (Both serpents just wanted their young, and their young's young, to prosper in the world)." "Throughout MHRise's story, it was the mating season for Ibushi and Narwa, and both were quite moody during this period, especially Narwa. She was angry when Ibushi was seriously wounded in the Stronghold, and she was furious when the Fierce invaded her nest (She was going to lay her eggs soon, but we interrupted her)." "Because she was close to laying her eggs, she was more aggressive than usual (Lore wise, that's why Narwa the Allmother attacks more aggressively compared to Thunder Serpent Narwa. She's desperately trying to protect her young)." "As Narwa absorbs Ibushi's power, her overall coloration will change due to his immense energy combining with her own. Ibushi and Narwa are the Source of the Rampage, and when their powers combine, they become the Allmother (Two become one = a being with the traits of both)." "Noticeably, the appearance of Narwa's thundersacs changes after she absorbs Ibushi's energy. Like Ibushi, Narwa has windsacs on her body, but those sacs have degenerated over time and have become vestigial at best." "However, those windsacs became active again after she absorbed Ibushi's energy. Not only can Narwa the Allmother manipulate lightning, but she can also manipulate wind like her mate. Ibushi's energy also greatly boosted her already outstanding electrical abilities." "The Fierce reported seeing round orbs inside of the thundersac on Narwa the Allmother's abdomen, and those orbs are her eggs. When Narwa is close to laying her eggs, she'll move them to her abdomen (The thundersac on her abdomen doubles as an egg sac)." "Because her body produces so much electrical energy, the thundersac on her abdomen produces an immense amount of light, making that part transparent. When she devours Ibushi, his energy will explosively activate the eggs (Sparks life within them. His energy influences the eggs)." "Like Thunder Serpent Narwa, Narwa the Allmother has outstanding electrical abilities, and Ibushi's energy has made those abilities more extraordinary. Because of his energy, Narwa has gained some new powerful attacks, including a few wind-based attacks. Like the standard Thunder Serpent Narwa, Narwa the Allmother's power will gradually increase as she becomes more enraged." "Narwa the Allmother is the strongest monster in the Kamura Region, standing above all other monsters (Pinnacle of all Life/Apex). She has no equals (Not counting Crimson Glow Valstrax, Apex Diablos, Apex Zinogre, etc.), and no other monster can hope to match her abilities." "Her abilities are in the realm of legend, making her one of a kind. When Narwa devoured Ibushi and gained his energy, numerous monsters, including other elder dragons, in the surrounding area suddenly headed to her location. Those monsters were either drawn to her immense power or came together to try to kill her and end the Rampage (The monsters are also victims of the Rampage)." "Some of the monsters that appeared in the Coral Palace include Magnamalo, Kushala Daora, Teostra, and Malzeno. While it's unknown why those monsters suddenly showed up, they did help the Fierce overcome Narwa the Allmother's immense strength. This sudden barrage of attacks from the monsters and the hunter further angered Narwa the Allmother, causing her to show off her true power. She'll do whatever it takes to protect her and Ibushi's lineage. While Narwa the Allmother did put up a good fight, she was ultimately slain by the Fierce. Thus the Rampage had finally come to an end!" "Her ultramarine and golden yellow scales collide like the sky and lightning. Her horns dominate the dancing gales and earth-splitting thunder. Those who carry one of her horns will be protected from misfortune." "Within the "Orb of Origin" dances father wind and mother lightning (There was a rumor that this material was Narwa's eggs, but there's nothing that confirms this)." "Note: Wind Serpent Ibushi, Thunder Serpent Narwa, and Narwa the Allmother were recently discovered, so there are some things still unknown about them." "Sources : 1. Hmm... hard to tell. Some people have speculated that they are similar to mantises in the sense that the mating ritual requires them to kill each other. Other people have theorized that Narwa killing Ibushi was an act of mercy to end his pain.

I love that you commented on that resolution at the beginning of the song. It makes sense, cause at first Narwa sees Ibushi weakened, about to die, and is in shock because of that, but on a show of resolve, Narwa sees a chance and decides to grasp to her instinct of survival, ending Ibushi's suffering, but gaining his powers. Her path now clearly laid in front of her Holy fuck is this song is a banger

Hey Davi! This track immediately stood out to me as one of the best in the game. It is honestly one the few times throughout these games where I think they cut to "Proof of a Hero" too early in the fight. This theme is inspiring, tells the story of the battle, and is filled with powerful brass lines which accentuate the climactic nature of the battle and the conclusion of the ark of the game as a whole. Really one of the better Elder Dragon themes in the series, to me it is on par with the Ceadeus theme.

I didnt think that much about this fight the first time I went in, since with Monster Hunter, I typically only focus on the gameplay. I have this tendency to brush off the story aspect as silly, or as taking itself too seriously. But holy shit, after watching this, thinking about the context, and the situation these two monsters are in, ngl I actually teared up. I think most people tend to ignore the storytelling of Monster Hunter since its not something super deep or personal. But holy shit, Capcom really deserves more credit for their storytelling in this series. It's not some deep story that'll make you question your life, but it is still a story told through music, emotions, and atmosphere. Pretty fucking amazing in its own right that they manage to give a compelling narrative of these two monsters with what's essentially just music (and some dialogue but lets ignore that since MH typically doesn't have monsters speaking.) I think the methods with which they tell stories deserve praise, even if the stories themselves aren't something extraordinary. You can really feel the somber acceptance and building anger into a full on roar of emotion at the start of the song. Pretty powerful.

The very beginning of her theme sounds like gagaku, a type of court music from imperial Japan. Apparently it's based on an older Chinese musical tradition. Gagaku tends to be droning - peaceful, but a bit disonant and mysterious, filling the listener with awe. (Edited because I accidentally just used the Japanese word for "music" rather than the specific type lol).

I'm still playing through, dr9ve ibushi off in the rampage quest and that's it so far. So I know pretty much nothing, and before you even said ibushi is dead I started tearing up. That doesn't happen, I've only teared up at orchestral songs (or songs in foreign laguages) one other time, and that's undertale. That's how effective this song is, that without knowing what's going on it drives yout to sadness as you realize this isn't a grand epic, this story is a tragedy

I love allmother narwas theme! Tho i think narwa is probably pregnant since we see things that look like eggs throw her stomach. What i see as more likely is: Ibushi inpregnated Narwa and narwa went to hide inside the Mountain and ibushi started to guard her untill she can give birth. Ibushi fails and falls throw the cealing and since hes so beat up from the fight he sacrifices himself to give narwa a fighting change against our hunter. Theres also 2 more theories about what happens. Theory 1. They work like angler fish where ibushi inpregnates narwa by letting narwa kill him. Theory 2. It was a betrayal. Narwa sensed she was in danger and decided to kill ibushi and steal hes power so she could live but ibushi who she promised shed be with whould die. But we really dont know wich one it is.
