I made a advanced expression-based calculator, a small app that estimates render time for 3D renders, a map editor for a game that is also made in C2... my most recent is a dashboard/overview for my musical projects so I can easily tag and listen to my own projects, kinda like soundcloud. I sometimes think myself if I'm the only living person that does that. Making apps is a lot more tricky than making games in C2, because of that I HAVE to know every single detail about this engine. I disagree with the order of some of the game engine and the reasonings for the order and I do not think you are looking at them objectively. Unity for example. I do not disagree with how they have shifted since going public but you said they do not dominate in any area but I have to disagree as the majority of top games created on the apple store I believe it is around 70-85% are created with unity. You also put Godot above Unity which I do not agree because of how mature the unreal engine and unity are. I personally love Godot but I do not think it is on the same playing field as unreal or unity as of yet but it is a good engine. If Unity dominated in an area that would probably be mobile. I also notice you left a lot of other game engines off the list that others are commenting about and I have used such as Stride, Cocos & Flax.

Strictly speaking about 2D development you can't seriously say that Unity is even close to Godot. It doesn't even support 2D. It's a 3D environment with camera tricks. Godot has a dedicated 2D editor with superb UI elements. And Unreal is too much of a overkill to make anything 2D. Some other aspects of Unity are still above Godot since it's a more mature engine, as you said. Although I don't think it has an unattainable status. Its tech isn't unique. It's not revolutionary. Other engines can catch up, and they will. The company is not even worth mentioning. Any product is made in spite of scummy money bags, not because of them.

technically, the scratch logo (i.e. the shortcut for the exe on a regulat desktop from 1.0-2.0/2007-2018) was just the scratch cat head, so the entire scratch cat sprite would be uneeded. P.S. this is only about the pre-3.0 logo, it was changed to a code block with the scratch font "s" in janurary 2019

As a Unity developer, and knowing what bad things Unity’s been doing nowadays, it seems hard to switch engines considering Unity is what I’m extremely used to. That’s obvious, considering the only full game I’ve released is made with Unity. I’ve made many others in the past, but they weren’t as good/finished as that game. Maybe continuing to take a break from game development is a good idea, but I still gotta get used to another engine other than Scratch.

Try Godot for three days and you probably won't turn back. I was using Unity and tried out Godot on a whim, realized the engine is awesome. With 4.0 it's really going to blow up, so now is a great time to start learning it. There are still some drawbacks but the engine developers actually understand and care about the updates users want, unlike Unity that is a black hole.

Every time that in tech one rates things is normally a very bad sign and i usually dismiss it and the people that make it. But in this case you did begin by saying that this list was based on Your Favourite game engine. Which shows sincerity and put that list in a correct context. That immediately gives that list a credibility that those other so called best don't have.

Hello, construct-using dev here, 1. Construct 2, though lacks a couple features (wich can easily be recreated in construct 2 anyways), is free 2. We aren't wizards, vimlark's a wizard I have no idea how he adds so much polish 3. The scripting restrains though exist aren't usually as bad as you'd expect because they can be overcome in around an hour

I would definitely drop Gamemaker lower. I started on it thinking it was easy and made several apps, seemed cool, but in retrospect the ide was pretty rough and not improved by gm studio 2. What really killed it for me though was the community management. Basic questions would get downvoted as though it wasn’t marketed to total beginners and so often the first response was essentially “RTFM.” It was super lame and sad, and now I’ve got several apps in limbo cause the IDE makes me feel some kinda way

Godot users like myself are rooting for Godot to be the Unity killer. Realistically it probably won't happen that way, but it sure would be satisfying to see an open source engine outpace a multi-billion dollar company, and wildly enough it feels within reach.

ID tech 1(the doom engine): easy S teir notes runs on a fxxking calculator, limited to dos if you don't use source ports, use gzdoom if you want more complicated stuff and not simple changes, people still make (full) games on this now almost 30 year old engine (shrine/shrine 2/ Lycanthorn, sonic robo blast 2, freedoom.wad etc) The wolfenstien 3D engine (i call it the wolfen engine) C teir notes use the rise of the triad engine, less ports then doom (which is surprising since wolf3D is not only older but more basic), needs heavy modification to work properly with new music (even midi) games that use it: wolfenstein 3D, wolfenstein spear of Destiny, shadow caster, Blake stone, rise of the triad (modified enough for me to distinguish the 2 here but they are the same engine none the less) rise of the triad engine (I call it the triad engine) A teir direct update to the wolfen engine cursed with only about 5 source ports and like 2 that add stuff (not including the new ludicrous edition) games that use it: rise of the triad

The concept of "unity not being good at anything" is pretty common in youtube, but saying godot has better 2d than unity is a huge overstatement. Unity has been in development for many years and the toolset is huge. I do believe it would have a lot more depth than a fairly new game engine, even if it is only in 2d.
