DLCs always were eligible before this, this is just the first time that it actually got enough votes to be nominated. For people who don't know there's no much rule for nominations, if Tekken 8 had enough votes to dispute best action game or best RPG it would be nominated. Also The Witcher 3 DLC won best RPG in 2016.

Should of honestly had a clause where it could be a stand alone game by itself. Sort of like how despite phantasy star online 2’s new genesis is attached to the base game, it’s still technically a separate game in itself. And I would say remasters/remakes should only be eligible if it’s effectively a completely redesigned game like how ff7remake & rebirth are completely different gameplays, vastly adjusted/expanded story and so on. So it’s literally just an entirely different game than the original final fantasy 7. As in if it was something on the level of the remade super Mario RPG, it would not be eligible due to simply being a 1:1 with next to nil on additions and tweaks to the gameplay itself.

Don't forget Xenoblade Chronicles DLC, both Torna the Golden Country and Future Redeemed are almost New Games, and since Xenoblade X will also get an expansion I don't think that will change with Xenoblade Chronicles 4. Side note: I still think this is stupid

People keep saying it but yeah shadow of the Erd Tree is amazing yet it shouldn’t be a nominee imo. Could’ve given another game a chance like HD2, Space Marines, etc. As for what I’m hoping wins, FF7 Rebirth has been amazing (hard to win GOTY as mentioned) but is soundtrack of the year for sure by a mile. (A pimp named Gus who’s such a minor character has like 12min of music with different remixes. Holy shit) but I’ve heard other games have been absolutely amazing too for GOTY. Only game I feel would be bullshit to win is Elden Ring DLC. It’s amazing for sure but not its own game despite content size The Sonic x Genshin conflict on the horizon is hilarious if it happens.
