As for its actual settings for people with vision and hearing issues the only one even slighty commendable above other games is its colorblind options but even then that is beginning to become an industry standard, TLOU2 did it far better and even Overwatch 2 has colorblind settings. So no i dont think it is especially deserving of the accessibility award.

@@BodaciousDerb I searched it up and what you’ve described seems to be very reductive, stuff like being able bypass quick time events might be trivial to you and perceived as making the game easy for game journalists but I know someone who wouldn’t be able to play the game if that wasn’t an option because of nerve damage in their hands. Even then there is still my point that the category has importance which the OP doesn’t seem to get. I don’t think it is a good game but what mainstream title did it better? Astro bot is in my mind the same sort of game as many of the Mario games. Very tied to a brand, kid friendly and made for a specific platform. Ok but Stellar Blade is actually really good. The combat is very similar to that of Sekiro's so I feel like Zanny would legitimately enjoy the game. Plus there's a lot of customization that look legitimately good besides the obvious horny options. Elden sweep baby! Let's go! They need to restructure and properly nail down what each of the categories actually stand for. 1. I agree. The issue is the number of nominations, not whether or not a game is reliesed from another game as DLC. I'd add Nine Sols and Animal Well to the list of robbed games. 2. Graphics isn't everything. Though, even if I haven't played it and probably never will, I dought its gameplay is good enough to carry it THIS far.

Helldivers was lots of fun; if they didn't ruin my experience with the balance patches it probably would be my goty but given they did break and most of my friends quit I ultimately had more fun in palworld this year then any other game

@@UniBlue1000 they actually changed that years ago; if you check the faq any game which is purchasable is now possible to be nominated. "Are Early Access Games Eligible for Nomination? Yes, any game available for public consumption by the deadline is eligible for potential nomination. It’s up to the jury to decide if a title warrants a nomination for creative and/or technical excellence in a given year." Even this year in indie title Manor Lords is still an EA game with much less purchases and lower review score then Palworld. Mostly positive Manor Lords vs Very positive Palworld with vastly more players; which belongs in the catagory?

On one hand it's definelt weird to have DLC be nominated as GOTY, but on the other hand it's brand new content and if it's as big as SOTE it's ok imo. Especially when Fifa can make a small update, call it a new game and win Sports Game of the Year. If Fromsoft would've made another soulslike, it would've probably have roughly the same amount of new content (aside from some new gameplay mechanics). And like the Game Awards said, they will only nominate DLC if it has an amount of content that makes it comparable to a full game. And SOTE is. Fromsoft could've easily just called this Eldenring 2 or Eldenring: Shadow of the Erdtree (Spinoff), made you port your account data to it and win/get nominated. Or they could've actually made a new game with the amount of work that went into this. I think that it's more important to talk about the best piece of new content than stick by this weird rule of just having actual games. But I think that the Game Awards should make a "Best non-sequel" category for games that aren't sequels and that aren't really similar to what the studio has done before. So a new fromsoft game/DLC couldn't be nominated except if it has as much innovation as something like Sekiro.

Remakes are still new games being made from the ground up and releasing on their own 2 legs, the fact that it is a recreation of a previous game is not grounds for it to be disqualified from being nominated as GAME of the year. An expansion of a game is not a new game, regardless of how much it adds and how good it is hence why people are upset at Elden rings dlcs inclusion.

The thing about helldivers is not enough updates or lackluster ones, no major changes for missions or extra content, the SONY debacle, the devs working against the players by nerfing fun playstyles, it takes months to fix major bugs for weapons and stratagems, and whenever they have an update no one likes it because the devs don’t know what the players want, either that or they’re massive trolls.

Any full game on the market has an advantage over any DLC to be nominated for Game of The Year because they are a fully formed game. Any DLC has to work 2 times or 3 times as hard to win such a nomination. It should not be disqualified based on the technicality that it is just an add on. It should be judged solely on the merits of its content.

That isn’t entirely true, becuase people who liked the game the dlc comes from will likely pick the dlc purely because of their memories towards the og game. A major expansion is not the same as an entirely new game

By technicality it shouldnt be there. To play SOTE you have to buy Elden ring (which obvs won 2022 GOTY) and play through half of it before you can even get to it and even then the DLC is far overhyped the base game was far better.

To be fair, I think elden ring was nominated simply because of its scale, I know a lot of people who honestly consider the dlc to be its own separate game just because of how big it was and how much it had in it. Simply complaining about SoTe because it’s a dlc is kinda unfair to what it did.
