At first I thought Tywin offered Arya the food out of some sort of kindness. But then I realized he just watched a man die to poison so he only offered Arya that meal as a guinea pig to make sure the food isn’t also poisoned lmao
@consistentlystupid47263 сағат бұрын
I mean to be fair, he also tells her to eat what she wants as she brings food back to the kitchen, so he's DOES offer food out of kindness at the end of the scene, so I wouldn't say he's ONLY offering the meal as a guinea pig. Tywin's not a good person, but he's not a mustache twirling villain. Tywin respects intelligence, and as he even says in this very episode he likes Arya. He has zero reason to lie, considering we see him answering her pretty honestly in other episodes when he answers questions about his father, or talks about Jamie struggling to read.
@TheLevitatingFleem3 сағат бұрын
@ oh yeah definitely, he definitely really likes Arya and 100% tells her to eat what she wants in the kitchen out of his own form of kindness. But letting her eat a meal that was *made* for him was definitely making sure there wasn’t any poison. like you said he isnt a good man, even though he likes and respects Arya, he’d have no problem letting her die to poison if it meant saving himself.

@@consistentlystupid4726Being sincere and mixing honest answers with lies is what actually makes a good liar. And we know he IS a liar: he posed as an ally to Aerys Targaryen but pillaged the city once the doors opened. He's not a man of honor, he does whatever it takes to win and that includes killing, raping and lying. He says it in the very first scene he's in too: "a lion doesn't concern itself with the opinion of the sheeps". he is not a mustache twirling villain indeed, but he's definitely an opportunist and lying is not beneath him.

Tywin is very very smart, but he´s not psychic. There is no way for him to know for sure that she is actually *the* Arya Stark because he has never seen Arya Stark in person. Even Littlefinger didnt know for sure, but likely saw Catelyns features in her. But the fact that Tywin figured out that Arya was both a northener and nobility just from a handful of conversations with her shows why he´s so feared.
@one0hwon5143 сағат бұрын
The way Littlefinger’s eyes were following Arya in that scene convinces me that he knew tbf. Let’s not forget they’ve interacted before. Arya asked why people call him Littlefinger back in season 1 at the tourney, and he explained. He said nothing to Tywin because “knowledge is power”
@gregdrake50693 сағат бұрын
Littlefinger 100% knew lmao
@SusanbVT5553 сағат бұрын
I don’t think Littlefinger knew. If he did he would have definitely used it to ingratiate himself with Tywin. There’s no way he clocks that and doesn’t say anything. I think part of it is that noblemen don’t really look at commoners in this world. They’re inconsequential to them and are only around to perform tasks. He also would never expect to see Arya there with Tywin so I don’t think it registered in his brain.
@SusanbVT5553 сағат бұрын
Also Arya is said to strongly take after the Stark side of the family (she and Jon are said to be two children that look purely Stark) so Littlefinger would not see a resemblance to Cat.
@gregdrake50693 сағат бұрын
@@SusanbVT555 Wrong on every count. Good lord. He didn't need to integrate himself with Tywin right then. Telling Tywin gives the Lanniters another hostage and would end the war with the starks quicker, ending the chaos faster that Littlefinger needs. And we literally SEE him recognize Arya. He does a double take. Then he looks closer and smirks. And then when he talks about Catelyns DAUGHTER he looks right at her. You need to use your head

The interactions between Arya and Tywin are genuinely some of my most unexpected favorite moments in the series. For a scene that doesn't involve imminent physical danger, the scenes manage to create a remarkable amount of tension with regards to Arya potentially being discovered. It also offers a wonderful glimpse into Tywin's motivations, and character while his guard is more relaxed.

One thing about this episode that likely remains true from book to show is that those two Orphan/millers boys is heavily alluded to as being Theons own sons as he had relations with the millers wife. Theon likely had his own sons tortured and killed.

Yeah Theon is an idiot, but he’s also a very realistic human individual who’s clearly internally and externally being pulled in multiple directions (Starks or Greyjoys, good or bad, honor or treachery). George RR Martin is a master at writing characters and his characters easily would’ve been written as a one note bad guy by lesser writers

You’re spot on about Theon. He has major abandonment issues and is desperately trying to win his Father’s approval. He isn’t behaving rationally and has lost sight of who was really there for him for the last decade or so. He doesn’t really even know who his Father is and if he did he probably wouldn’t like or respect him after being raised by the Starks.
