What I love about is that Aegon was unique to fantasy. He wasn't an evil conquered hell bent on conquering just for conquest. He was a benevolent and merciful conqueror. He didnt flat out slaughter people. He gave them a chance and rewarded them and still allowed them to continue on with their customs. He only used violence when it was necessary. After the war he even adopted their customs and religions and made it a goal to maintain peace and improve relations with Westeros. He was a good good guy and a great king.

I'm actually surprised by the amount of dislike for any sort of fiction on this channel. Hell, I'm surprised that there are so many history purists here; as if facts of the past are /the only/ thing that matter. As if legends of old had no impact on history, or, on the contrary, impacted directly by history. A lot of this is apparently coming from the notion that this episode covers a "stupid popular TV show" - fair enough. I just am amused by this argument considering that this topic is rarely - if ever - covered in the show. Instead most of the info on this era in general comes from the ASoIaF books. If anyone's actually read the stuff, they'd instantly realize the appreciation G.R.R. Martin has for history and politics. If you look beyond the pawns moving across the map, you'd realize that war is an incredibly political and social ordeal. Martin writes knowing this, and I believe that deserves a level of respect and not an, "ew, fiction", response.
@darthnate1174 жыл бұрын

I like the occasional change of pace that fantasy battles provide. If you do others in the future, I'd like to suggest The Battle of the Five Armies (LOTR) or The Battle of Brenna (The Witcher Books). Could be fun!

Absolutely amazing this video i watched all 7 seasons of Game of Thrones(also season 8 hype!) and its nice to see the history before Game of Thrones happened presented in this format(in fact a good part of the World of Ice and Fire timeline happens before Game of Thrones some parts of it are just less detailed if i remember right,not sure though) anyway great video as always and honestly a fantasy video from time to time is a nice change of pace from all of the history documentaries(the history documentaries are still amazing though keep them up)

Hey guys, thx for creating all those awesome videos. Also i don`t think the fields of fire where planned to be a massacre. With "only" 4000 dead out of 55000 enemys, Aegon clearly tried to single out the two kings and their Lords. The wind blowing in the direction of the infantry might have caused many unintended burnings. Aegon is not the type off guy to kill thousands of soildiers for following their lord into battle. He might have even delayed his attack for an hour in hope the wind would calm down. In general most of the "historians" in the ASOIAF books are strait out liars trying to push their own narrative. Just like in real life... Have a wonderful day

Yeah BC and AC in ASoIaF stands for "Before Conquest" and "After Conquest" Aegon The Conqueror is that significant that the calendar is based around him
@CamelsHighOnCrayons5 жыл бұрын
@@PanzerIVAE Wonder what other calendars there are outside of Westeros. Braavos would probably start from the founding of Braavos or when the Moonsinger slaves escaped slavery. The rest probably use the fall of Valyria, except possibly the Ghiscari people - which could use the founding of the Ghis Empire or something to do with The Harpy.

The Targaryens could have gone for Essos, and they had actually once been offered an alliance by Volantis (who had been the strongest Free City at that point and would have actually supported a reformed Freehold with the Targaryens at the head). I guess Westeros for whatever reason interested them more than Essos (I suppose it doesn't help that Argilac and the Durrandons were in a vulnerable position with a weakening grip on their lands and vassals, a lack of a direct line male heir (you can probably see how unpopular that decision made Argilac and Argella especially, among some of the lords), and Argilac had technically been dealing with the crap left behind by incompetent predecessors (granted Argilac was as a arrogant as his moniker implies).
