I think he was grieving for Jorah as well, Jorah was there when the dragons hatched, so they've known him as long as they've known Dany. They just bonded with her so they aren't as close to him as with her.

I'm really glad you can appreciate the darkness of the episode. Most people just complain, but I, like you, always thought it just added to the tension and terror!! My favorite episode of the whole show. When Brienne and Jamie were fighting back to back on the wall, they were wielding the two halves of Ice, Ned Stark's sword, so in a way, Ned was there to defend Winterfell one last time. Theon is my favorite GOT character. His growth over 8 seasons was phenomenal. Such good writing, that you start out season 1 hating him, but cry over his death. And I think (sorry if I'm wrong) Theon is the only one we see the Night King personally k*ll. I recommend reading the book Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon. It's interviews with a lot of cast and crew, and it gives SO much information and perspective to this show. It's one of the reasons I can never hate season 8, just knowing what the cast and crew did to bring it to us. If you love zombie fiction and like to read, I HIGHLY suggest Joseph Talluto's White Flag of the Dead book series. There's much less drama than the Walking Dead, more building back and taking back the world, and the zombies make more sense.

i think the plotwist side around arya killing the night king is because of his training as "no one". The Many-Faced God is the god who bestows the Blessing of Death, where the Night King brings him back from the dead. Arya has evolved in this Faith. and as such, she is legitimate to offer the blessing of death to all revenants who are under the control of Others.

The people that had to plead their case to be there, (Jaime and Theon) really fought hard and contributed greatly to the cause. Jaime and Theon's characters really changed the most from the beginning of the show till now, and had the best redemption stories in the series. I think the death that hit me hardest was Jorah's. He too had to redeem himself. After his betrayal of Dani in the beginning of show, he has has done nothing but prove his loyalty, tirelessly fighting at her side to protect her and help her achieve her goal. He fought till his dying breath for the woman that he loved, even though he knew that his love was one sided. Dani did however have love for him (not romantic) and truly mourned his death.

Of the many moments that paid a sort of homage to LOTR, Jorah’s final battle is one that really hits hard. (I won’t say the LOTR character’s name because spoiler, but it’s someone whose redemption includes a climactic sword fight where he keeps standing up and taking another swing despite all his wounds.)

Great reaction! I'm with you on the score, it's so good in this episode and in this show overall. You should definitely check out KZbin videos of full Game of Thrones concerts, they're so amazing and emotional! I am definitely not in the "hater" camp about this season like so many others. This episode is good entertainment and I always bawl my eyes out when Bran thanks Theon and tells him he's a good man. Theon is one of my favourite characters EVER written, period. The way that you find him annoying, then HATE him, then feel horrible for him, and then love him by the end. So good. I also love Lyanna Mormont going up against the wight giant. Bella Ramsay did a phenomenal job acting as this fierce little lady who doesn't just sit on a chair the whole time she rules, and in my opinion it's a really great end for her character to kill off a giant like that, despite dying herself. And then Jorah and Dany... heartbreaking scene. But also so fitting for their characters. Looking forward to your thoughts on the rest of the season!

The Night King was smart af. He sent the bulk of his wights at Winterfell, and had his generals stay back along the forest edge. All while he’s on dragonback away from the battle. I always assumed Bran was trying to lure him in with the ravens when he said “I’m going to go now”. And then when he’s on foot instead of risking everything to fight Jon, he just raises the dead lol.

If someone asks "what is the worst battle layout you saw on film in serious movie" - it would be this episode. All they cared about what drama and pretty shots, but common sense, battle strategies - nah, it's not on the menu. From Dothraki riding full speed where they can't see (how they were going to fight before they got flaming sword?), to Unsullied standing in FRONT on ditches instead of behind them, to trebuchets sitting in the middle of the field and firing once, instead of behind the walls, constantly firing.

Or amazing scene like the library scene with Arya, that don't need good shots and montage, its still as good. Or the music that is clearly incredible. So yeah I think there were kind of dumb to put dothraki in front without firing sword in the first place. But this is not what stopping the fact this episode is FIRE. 1 more complain is the fact that Arya kills the Night King, everyone would have wanted Jon to get him, but this scene is still as great as ever.

I think the episode being dark was a great choice it’s like when you watched the decent and it’s super dark but your on edge because, you know something is in the darkness that’s how I felt with this 👏🏾 waiting for the dead, and them basically moving the shadows tearing through the first line was EPIC. I was tripping hard during this episode. xD When the Night King raises up everyone again and the battle basically "resets", I started thinking that everyone at Winterfell would die. I also got it into my head that maybe the producers had tricked us all, and the season wouldn't be six episodes, but only three, and this was the end of it all. The Night King would walk up to Bran and cut him in half, and the screen would go black, and then as a last image we see the White Walker army march through the gates of King's Landing, and the show would end with the Night King taking the Iron Throne. o.O

I think people were so focused on the idea of a duel, they completely missed when they fought on dragon back lol. I do like that the NK refused to fight Jon though. There’s no reason for him to ego fight Jon. People say the writers ignore logic for spectacle, but that’s a good example of a character doing exactly what they should do.

From a cinematic point of view, this episode is really nice and looking pretty solid. I understand why you wouldn't hate it or anything, but from a writing and logic perspective, it was pretty bad and here are some reasons: 1. As you said, why would they send the dothraki first and alone if they knew they'll get revived and fight for the night king. 2. All the game of thrones was build around Jon versus the Night king, Arya had no links with the night king and no reasons at all to be the one to kill him. Only cus red women would say that in this ep? Cmon, jon had all the build up and most logic to fight/kill the night king. 3. In GoT, there were tons of main characters which died but somehow in this episode, there were many characters surrounded by many walkers and they somehow didn't die. This show was well known for no having plot armor but this episode changed that completly. There are other reasons why this wasn't a "good" episode in terms of writing or story, like all the build up to this, just to show us arya coming out from nowhere and killing the night king and so on. Anyway, i'm happy that you liked it for no at least haha. Nice reaction!

Jon is the only reason Northmen, Wildlings, Night’s watch, Unsullied, Dothraki, and dragons fought together against the army of the dead. He was the leader of the living, the antithesis of the Night King. Jon is the one who made it his mission to unite the living and stop the dead. Just cause he wasn’t the one to land the final blow, doesn’t make his part any less historic.

Jon is the one who made this entire situation possible, so him not landing the final blow doesn’t take away from what he did. Mel lit the trenches buying time, Lyanna took out a/the giant, Beric and the Hound saved Arya, Dany commanded the dragons, Greyworm commanded the unsullied, Jorah saved Dany, the dothraki joined the NK, The NK commanded the dead, the WW brought the storm, Theon bought Arya time, Arya killed the NK, Brienne and Jaime squad manned the wall buying time, Tormund and Ed squad manned the gate buying time, Bran was bait, Ser davos commanded the Archers buying time, Missandei and Sansa discussed politics and Tyrion protected Sansa. Jon, Sam, Gilly and Varys did nothing of significance to the plot of this episode. The last 3 are understandable but a main character, the one responsible for bringing all this together was irrelevant in the most important battle ever? Come on, that's just disrespectful. I can't fault Kit Harrington for being disappointed after all his work in previous seasons leading up to what should've been an impactful moment for his character's arc.

I mean, I’ll list out what Jon did but my whole point was that he’s the one responsible for them even winning. Without Jon, the only fight waiting for the walkers is Bran, Beric, Thoros and the hound. Jon used dragon fire on the tidal wave of dead at the beginning of the battle. When he sees the white walkers he goes to take them out but the storm stops him. He watches over Bran in the Godswood. He went after the NK the moment he showed up. Jon attacks the NK on dragonback when he sees him lighting up Winterfell, they fight and Jon gives Dany the opportunity to knock the NK off his dragon. He runs to fight him and is cheated out of a 1v1. He fights though Winterfell ignoring Sam and everyone else in order to kill the NK. He definitely wasn’t irrelevant considering he had the most important job of anyone: kill the Night King. He fought him on dragonback and confronted him on foot. There’s a big difference between doing nothing, and failing to do something. He did more fighting in this episode than he did in Watchers on the wall.

Jon is very important to the Long Night storyline but if you remove his character from the script of the Long Night battle nothing changes, which is atrocious storytelling. Ay dios mio 🤦‍♂ "He did more fighting in this episode than he did in Watchers on the wall." ugh mate I get that you're just trying to play devil's advocate here but that has to be one of the dumbest things i have ever heard. At Castle Black, Jon commanded the wall's defenses when Ser Allister fell. He gave the orders to stop the giant. He single handedly defeated the main threat from the Thenne commander. He physically led the men to victory. That's what launched him into becoming Lord Commander in the first place. Without him and Ser Allister there, the castle would've fallen, that is a fact. I can't say the same about this episode. It's a grave insult to compare D&Ds 8x3 adapted from god knows where to 4x9 adapted from GRRM's A Storm of Swords. nah fam that ain't it 😂

Why isn't Jon joining the fight at the beginning?... they set up a plan to last episode where they had to draw out the night king and he would protect bran... once danys dothraki got decimated the plan blew up when Dany got on the dragon.... but how do you know the right way to fight hundredsssss of thousands of whites against 60 thousand

Like I know that many say that the final season was poor in terms of the rushed nature of the story. But the cgi, acting never really suffered which is good. This episode is so tense and I know we expected the white walkers to last longer than one episode but they didn’t fail to show the absolute chaos the entire army of the dead could do against another big army. They nearly overwhelmed the living which is what I wanted more than anything really.

I love how they made such importance out of the dragonglass but saved none of it for the Dothraki lmao 😂 most of the Dothraki (if not all) are highly skilled with bow on horseback. Its one of the things that makes them so dangerous in battle. If they only gave them dragonglass arrows..they would have taken out so many wights and still had time to retreat safely. This whole battle irritates me lol why was anyone other than the Dothraki outside of the walls?

Almost as good as George conjuring up that a cut throat would be wielding thee Dagger of all Daggers to kill Bran, that us simpletons of GOT at episode 2, season 1, wouldn't blink for a second, on the sheer nonsense of it. We learn much later, that anybody who is anybody in those days of Westoros, should put up a red flag IMMEDIATELY, that this was a setup. No high lord would hand such a rare precious historic piece to do a hit, when any weapon could of done the job & not leave a crumb trail to himself. George pulled the wool over our eyes early on & all you guys have to do is complain about D&D. George on one hand made Ned, Ser Rodrick & Maester Lewin as wise Westoros historians & on the other hand, made them all seem like fools, as they all bit on Littlefinger's story, when nothing in his story added up. It only added up, if it was a common dagger. We know that the dagger has huge history behind it. Any noble should of recognized the importance of it.

4th most "10" of "10", on IMDB among 76 GOT episodes. That tops every episode made in season 4, where many think that was the best season. I think your hate of the ending or HBO trashing your GOT screenplay, clouds your judgement. Please point out any of the dozens of ORIGINAL reactors, who reacted to each episode as they first aired, remarking that this episode was mediocre, or complained more then they raved after the episode's ending. You see, the original reactors, never watched the ending of the show yet to build in a bias, like most of you haters have. A bunch of people with sour grapes of the ending of the show, get in a room together, turning into a room of full group think, destroying anything or everything that had to do with season 8. Bravo!

I'm a huge zombie fan myself. I LOVE The Walking Dead. And then all the good zombie movies! Love. My favorite thing are zombie book series, though. There are EXCELLENT zombie series out there to read. Especially on Kindle. You should try some if you don't already. Books are just as exciting as movies. Maybe more. Some are funny. Some are crazy! Some are really interesting twists on the genre. God, I love zombie fiction!
