Even if Frey hadnt betrayed Robb.. His Plan was condemned to fail. Casterly Rock Has never fallen it is one of the strongest castles in Westeros. I wish D&D had sticked to books where Robb planned to march back north

Not really. The boltons to their knowledge were loyal to them and had no beef. The same with The Freys to an extent. This was a betrayal in the north.

@@brandonanderson117 agreed. But in the books the Boltons have a long history of betraying the starks and sort of being stepping on the boundaries of betrayal, in which they did do it a few times.

I like that just a few episodes before this Tywin is at harrenhall at a war council saying he thinks Robb would try to take casterly rock and one of his generals says he would never risk that and Tywin says “He’s a boy who’s never lost a battle he’ll risk anything at anytime” Tywin was right Robb was a foolish boy to think at this point in the war he could take casterly rock and even more foolish to think the walder Frey of all people would join him in a doomed war especially after he literally betrayed his oath to him
@mattavery7581
@mattavery7581 Ай бұрын
To be honest the war was lost for Robb at this point he just couldn't see it. When he began the war he was just fighting the Lannisters but the situation had changed, he was going up against the Westerlands, Reach and Crownlands combined (most of the Stormlands had bent the knee by this point). Even if he survived the Red Wedding he wouldn't be able to hold the Riverlands, the best he could hope for was driving the Ironborn out of the North but his days as King in the North were numbered.

My guy was done wrong tho.I can't believe a man like Robb stark,who had a military mind,ever was confident he had the manpower to win a siege of the rock,with all the Lannister army and their banners coming to lift it,and lannisport right by the door to give the besieged provisions.This is idiocy xd

They could lay siege to the Castle and use Scouts to report any movements from King's Landing giving Robb enough time to lift the Siege and fall back in good order. Back to the riverlands the Siege will of weaken the defenders. And most of those men were involved in the Greyjoy Rebellion they know how to take castles. They don't even need the storm the thing they just need to surround it and starve them out.

@@hafeezasif7932 He could. He was in contact with Howland Reed who ruled people living in the marshes and around Moat Cailin. Reed's castle was essentially a floating castle and quite impossible to take unless your soldiers grew wings. He would snuck past the Moat, most likely recapture it as disease and poison attacks from guerilla force loyal to North already took care of most of the defenders. It was also easier to attack it from the north. Robb was essentially leaving Riverlands to fend for themselves, but he was pretty out of options at this point. He still required a passage and additional troops to bolster his forces and that's what brought him back to Freys. He would recapture north, consolidate his forces and come back with new force (as what he got at first were hastily drafted whoever could be spared from the fields).

@@masterexploder9668 Plus, if Lysa Arryn would've just let Robb move his army through the Bloody Gate and take a ship from Gulltown to the North, Robb would've been in a much stronger position and wouldn't need to rely on Frey's cooperation nor support. Robb really had a ton of factors that screwed him over.

They could've driven the Ironborn back to the sea and regroup. But their allies in the riverlands would've been doomed, even if he leaves garrisons. Who would be left to fight for him in the south once he marches back against the Lannisters? Who would've defended the north from the Greyjoys when they plan another attack? There was no other possible alliance. You couldn't count on the Vale, Renly is dead, the Tyrells allied with the Lannisters, just like the Martells thanks to the marriage proposal. Stannis wouldn't ally with Robb either. Robb was doomed in any scenario, betrayal or not

As much as i love this show and the books. In no universe, would Frey (91) by this point, want to be involved in a doomed war. When the oath over his daughter was struck. Ned was still alive. Renly had just been crowned or was about to crown himself a king and contender. Which meant a Baratheon win was possible. Then he finds out his daughter wont be a queen in the North. Then The black water failed. The Tyrells join the Lannisters. Half of Robbs army have bolted. The late Walder Frey was his name as he didnt get involved until it was over. Cat knew this from her father. Edmure Tully being worth the potential destruction of his entire house? When your an old useless coward. They start this episode with Robb admitting that he got the Greyjoy allegiance hopelessly wrong. Cat knows Frey's just as untrustworthy as Greyjoy. So they go and make exactly the same mistake again. I mean come on man. Putting two and two together, no way in a million years am i setting foot in that castle if im in a vulnerable state. Which Robb was in. The odds on him prevailing are so short now. Its true that going back north again to retake his lands from the Greyjoys is a more realistic plot. But again do you really believe Frey is willing to send his army up North as winter approaches to help you. When hes known as a uselss old coward. When you know Roose is ambitious and dangerous, you dont seperate from him. This was such an amazing story and great TV. Im not pretending i predicted this betrayal in anyway, when i read the books/watched the show. I was like holy crap like everyone else. But Robb was a poor leader and Cat was a liability. Peace and love.
