I believe the writers probably looked at all the various plot lines and tried to make them all come together plausibly, but then gave up and said "fuck that it's too complicated". Instead they focused on visuals. The focused on coming up with scenes that might look cool and write plot to make those scenes happen. "Wouldn't it be cool if the Dothraki all wield flaming swords and wade bravely into the wight army?" "But that makes no sense!" "So?" "We should have a scene that the defenders are trying to retreat back into Winterfell but got slowed down by the barriers. That would make for a really intense moment." "But lining soldiers in front of the barrier makes no sense!" "So?" "Tyrion should walk up to Cersei to try to talk to her. That would show he's still brave, and also makes the audience wonder if Cersei still have some humanity left." "But Cersei letting Tryion live makes no sense!" "So?"

They didn't use him in the battle and now they dismiss him like that? 8) Euron must have the same magic that Arya has as a fleet of 10 Ships appear out of NOWHERE. 7) Why didn't Dany see Euron's fleet? 6) Rhaegal dying without a fight. 5) Missandiei's death (Not a problem for the story.. just why would I enjoy that?) 4) Forcing Dany to become a "Mad Queen," even though she's made decisions with others in mind previously. 3) Why didn't Dany fly Drogon behind Euron's Fleet and LIGHT THEM UP? 2) Sansa betrays Jon's trust and we miss Both Sansa and Arya's reaction to being told Jon's parentage. 1) Why didn't Cersei try to attack Dany while they were standing as sitting ducks. In front of King's Landing? Those Scorpions could definitely reach them. This was out of character for Cersei.. she is RUTHLESS and wouldn't let Dany leave alive in that situation.

To be fair their aim was very spot on when they fired at Dany, they only missed cause she made evasive maneuvers, something Rhaegal was not doing the moment he got shot down. What did not make sense is even though she started evading, I don't think a beast the size of Drogon could have dodged an entire barrage heading towards his general position. I think at least 1 or 2 should have made contact. But that's just speculation on my part, I could be wrong.

Danny, the girl who was just a pet of a Dothraki Khaal, a pawn of her brothers, turned out to be the breaker of chains, a khaleesi, and above all else, ruler that inspires other. Now, she is tested once more. She no longer has the 'strongest' claim for the throne. She has recently lost several loved ones who have been her from the beginning. And now, the thing she most desires in the world, can be hers, after all that hard work, all she has to do is to murder the townsfolk. Will she become a tyrant like her father? I don't think Daenerys ever truly cared about the people. Conquering other kingdoms by subverting their indentured populaces against their rulers isn't any great demonstration of compassion on Daenerys' part. It definitely played into her own vision of herself, but ultimately it served her main goal of reclaiming the Iron Throne. How do you think she would have reacted if the freed slaves had resisted submitting themselves to her, and opted for independence like the North? Add to that the death of Sir Jorah, Viserion and Rhaegal, Jon Snow's identity as the trueborn heir of Rhaegar Targaryen (thus obviating her entire claim and everything she sacrificed to get to this point) and you have all the makings of a Mad Queen, as terrible as her father ever was, now armed with dragonfire.

Euron topped the night king in the accuracy game. he hit a moving target in the heart flying fast and chaotic while sitting on a boat in rough seas behind rocks. and apparently they built 5000 scorpion bolts?? in a few months?? and the rigging to hold them up?? Then even letting the CG Dragon die....Drogon is not sent super high to come down and flank the ships where not bots were at and sink the entire fleet?? At this point I think they want the series to die and they all move along.

My hunch is HBO are saving all the big reveal scenes for the Blu-Ray box sets. If you wanna see any of the characters react in the moments you've waited literal years to see - they're gonna make you shell out to buy it on extended DVD. Basically this episode feels incredibly rushed to me. It is as if they do not want to take the time to tell the story anymore. They omit scenes that should have been shown, like the scenes in which people are told who John really is, and there are many more like that. Because of that there is an emotional disconnect. For me this show is unrecoverable now. They will not be able to repair the fuck ups of this season anymore.

Playing Devil's advocate: all of the 3-eyed Ravens have always been neutral. What's the point of telling people things they shouldn't know? His role is not to help humanity, but to be the nexus of the world's history. That's why the Night King came for him. He knows that information, because he's the Raven, now. I mean, he's not even Bran anymore, because of that kind of knowledge changes a human. He didn't need to help with strategy, because that was most likely how it was going to play out, and to tell them what would happen would change the outcome. At least he told Jon about his lineage, I figure that's big enough. Maybe there's something bigger for him. Doubt it, as this season has been beyond lackluster. As it stands, the point of Bran was to continue the 3-eyed Raven legacy.
