Nice video. Some of the sins, however, were explained in the lore and in dialogue, but it absolves nothing since the plot is actually convoluted and unstable, owing to various rewrites during the game's dev hell. However, the sins on mechanical deficiencies are sometimes unearned, as janky open-world can be circumvented by disabling the area controller drone, Plyush and other bio enemies are vulnerable to both fire and "expansive converter" upgrades on guns (I deliberately triggered all 5 Plyush battles in the Pavlov complex and all of them ended in less than 2 minutes each of unloading Polymer, fire-cassette-shotgun and telekinesis, and they weren't even intended to be started). The game's Bioshock reference obsession seems to be an international-release only feature, since the "would you kindly" phrase never once gets mentioned in Russian, and the game's obviously reference-heavy tone sticks more to Russia-specific jokes rather the referencing other games (the magic superstuff is literally called "polymer", a Russian joke for fucking everything up is "we lost all the polymers", and the Atomic Heart project is basically an old Soviet joke about peaceful Soviet spaceflight-capable missile-launching tractors.) The only overt (and cringeworthy) reference to Bioshock is the "Rapture" moment and some plot points. Nechaev is unlikeable, however, a) he was supposed to be unlikeable, as he is a gruff seasoned soldier with a specific "everything's fucked" type of humor... which might just be too Russian to understand and b) that is not his true personality, as Sechenov does explain in the archived video. Anyway the voice acting is still bad even in the Russian release. Also, the take that the game somehow "glorifies communism" is sketchy at best and bullshit at worst. While at the first glance the settings does seems to be a communist utopia, it never actually gets deeper in positive references than basic token mentions (like the Soviet republic flags in Chelomey at the start or exactly 3 mentions of "dirty capitalists" during the entire game). None of the game's imagery actually praise communism as a system, the main focus is on glorifying *science* (fitting for a research center), and the underside of this supposedly flourishing system turns out to be a host of manipulative bastards vying for control of the entire world, strict social rating systems, fuckups on every possible level of planning, and generally being a failure. The second Limbo segment even has Sechenov directly saying both capitalism and communism are lies. And considering the wonderful cast of forgettable hipster chick, psychopathic programmer with a ballerina fetish, evil manipulative glove-polymer-goo, a sex robot fridge and... a granny... one could argue Sechenov is the most sane person in the entire complex, and that's saying something. Side note: Stockhausen's accent is explained in-game and seems to be a translation oddity. In the Russian version, every single character speaks perfect Russian, except Stock, who deliberately has a very thick German accent. As one of the emails says, he can actually speak Russian without an accent, and chooses not know to show off that he's German. Accents are a common problem in game localization, and in most games the team usually just drops the accents, which sometimes leads to thoroughly American characters in American-made games talking in refined Russian as if they were born somewhere in Moscow suburbs. Side note 2: Ебучие пироги ("fucking pies") is just better than the English version. Now it's your turn to suffer from bad translations, you dirty capitalist bastards (*evil Soviet laugh*)
@undying2160 Жыл бұрын

@chrisdaughen5257 Жыл бұрын
I get mixed feelings when games do that these days. It kinda hurts the player experience when learning the fight because the hint can end up spoiling everything the boss can do before the player can do anything. It's definitely appropriate for extremely gimmicky fights though. Plus if they do give out hints, they should be done in a post-loss loading screen or something similar.

the thing that bugged me about choosing your ending is that is not that it doesn't matter, but its feels out of place here. For the entire game you are playing as someone who not only doesn't question the world a lot, but he doesn't make any meaningful choices, he does what everyone says even if they piss him off. It feels more like a bad joke because the reasoning behind leaving is nonsensical because he never had a real thought provoking idea in his head. Not only that, but you have put over a dozen hours into the game when it flat-out tells you that the Kollektiv is an evil plan so there is no reason for the main character to want to leave, also the player has put hours into getting to that point so why would they. There is no reason to leave other than to see what happens and ironically that's the better ending. There's no satisfaction to seeing him leave. This may sound like broken record for the people who've seen criticism of this game, but in Bioshock you play as a character that is essentially a puppet, Jack, who is ordered by Fontaine without realizing it and all to get to Andrew Ryan. Even after the twist there's really no other choice given to you but to continue on and kill Fontaine. There's only one choice that you are given that belongs to you, the player, and Jack; whether or not you kill the little sisters. You are given both reasons to save and kill the little sisters, either to gain gifts later on or gain more ADAM but the reveal of the ending revealed more importance in doing both. The choice of killing or saving shapes Jack as a person in the end. The only actual defining choice of the game that effects the ending is whether or not you kill or save the little sisters. The little sisters are not only a testament of whether or not Jack has any humanity despite being what he is, but they are also a proof of what free will he had, which is why the ending meaningful because those actions were the only things that did matter and they had an affect on people he saved.

Throughout the game there are several hints that Sechenov was against using mind-control, that it's not the same as ordinary Thought connector and that Charles was the one behind it. But it's subtle enough so most players will choose to hunt Sechenov first, and therefore won't spoil the reveal of the ultimate villain. Though the good ending is very short, the DLC follows it and explains Sechenov a little more.
@Riftsrunner11 ай бұрын
Yeah, when I got to the End choice, it never felt organic enough to walk away. The game was hitting you upside the head at every turn that your mentor was evil, but doing too subtle a job towards pointing towards your glove manipulating you. Especially, since in a lot of ways your reliance on it getting you through the game never really threw up any red flags. Sure there was mention that the cofounder of the program had lost his marbles in regards to the human race, but the connection to him and the entity in your glove was never played up enough to realize that he could be feeding you bad info.

The problem is, on paper, communism and socialism are amazing. Everyone is equal, the state is a giving mother who fairly divvies out the goods to those who are in need and to make those who have excess spend it accordingly to better the state to give more to those in need. The problem is people. You will never get over human selfishness and greed. Once someone in power desires more, which happens pretty much the moment some people obtain it, it stops being a utopia and starts being an oppressive nightmare of slavery, silencing the dejectors, and "erasing" political opposition. Some people simply don't care about others, and their wants will always supersede the needs of others. There's nothing wrong with Communism. People are the problem. That's why Democracy has worked where Communism has failed. Democracy gives a voice to everyone, instead of pretending like a unanimous voice is silently running everything when really, it's just the rich and powerful making decisions to better suit them. Even if the rich and powerful have a louder voice in a Democracy, the voice of those without is still present and people are aware of it instead of sweeping it under the rug and pretending it doesn't exist. Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.

also the fact that it requires a massive centralized state that dictates everything thus the on paper equal thing is also a massive lie regardless

Dartigan is gonna be like on RE4 remake sins: There’s some games that try too hard. Then there’s games that try to reinvent themselves. Resident evil 4 remake does this too well so much so, that it’s easy to forget the first set of sins this game committed when it originally came out. It’s like a fat chick in high school that was thick in all the wrong places with bad breath, snotty nose, ugly toes and bad hygiene, but with a horrible attitude. Then after High school, had that talk with itself in the mirror, cleaned itself up and worked on itself, but still with the bad attitude. The bad attitude is the plot holes, and inexcusable lack of common sense that doesn’t seem present with the characters, and Ashley seemingly being more useless than the original game. Re4 Remake looks richer than the original, as far as color, by a longshot, getting rid of the brown shade like when you have that accident in your pants and having to rush to the bathroom. The controls are smooth as butter on a hot toast and switching between weapons never felt better. The sounds are great and you can hear audibles creepily wrap around you ear as though it would seem the villagers are in your ear curing you out in Spanish; the sounds of squishing, snapping, or shooting off enemies head sounds more disgusting and live. However just like that fat chick I mentioned earlier, it’s hard to see the horrible person she was, now because she looks more attractive. Capcom had time to sit and think of how to strengthen the plot, but all they seemed to do was add dialogue in places that could’ve been broken down to add more depth to some of its lesser known characters *looking at you, Krauser, because there’s no way not even 30% of people who played all the main games of Resident Evil know who he is.* As far as aesthetics, it’s an amazing game and managed to keep much to all of its charm from the first time, so much so, it makes you want to play the original, but it wouldn’t matter much, because the plot and lack common sense would make you realize that, you are shallow, and because a game looks good, you still played it, despite its red flags, like dating that ugly same fat chick.
