As an expert on all things kirby, I can give you what you're looking for. While it's unclear if kirby is actually a reincarnated Void, it's pretty darn clear that kirby is a dark matter, his copy ability is only shared by several dark matter characters. including gooey, a character who in Dreamland 3 straight up has kirby's copy ability as the player 2 of that game... yeah, let's just say there's a ton of evidence that kirby is a dark matter

Mat wasn't exactly very accurate, and so what Meteorz covered was more thorough. No ill will or anything, but since people know more about the lore from Meteorz at the very least, I guess a lot of people pointed out Mat's inaccuracies. I'm biased though since I do Meteorz' translations from time to time though.

I'm skeptical that the drag is enough to explain the size of this effect to be honest. My own personal theory is that Kirby is filled with the fires of hell, which makes the air warm up and expand.

Honestly, I think that because Kirby is some sort of single cellular organism, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch that when he inhales, he could filter out heavier elements of air through his surface. It probably wouldn't be perfect, and this drag theory probably has a part in it, but we could imagine that it gives him a decent boost in his bouyancy, enough so that just flapping his nubblets results in just barely rising. This theory also explains how Dedede, a much heavier and denser character, of seemingly somewhat similar biology to Kirby, can fly almost as well.

It could also be because he heats up the air in his body. Take the balloon example again, however look at it as a hot air balloon this time. As the air heats up he goes higher and as it cools down he sinks. This could explain why he starts to sweat, as his body is heating up. This could also explain why he does damage as he exhales; hot air.

I mean, I don't think we actually have a weight for kirby, but I would assume that by intaking air and causing a negligible increase in weight coupled by a major increase in surface area, Kirby then is able to use those arms and legs as essentially wings and flap them to create enough downward force for a small spurt of upward motion. I think Kirby has the ability to separate the nitrogen from the oxygen as he sucks in air. The earth's atmosphere is composed of 78% nitrogen and its lighter then air. If he fills himself up with nitrogen it should provide some good lift.

So if nuclear fission were to occur inside Kirby, he would have to release radioactive waste somewhere and the element that he would perform fission on would have to be quite dense, much denser than air, like beryllium-6. And helium can't become a lead ball since fission is splitting the atom so it would become an isotope or a lighter element. This isn't simple so someone had to cover it.
