My take on the timeline is simple: Skyward Sword TotK memories Minish Cap OoT - splits into three thanks to the abandoned timeline theory. Child Timeline has MM, TP, and Hyrule Warriors (Hyrule Warriors is a tribute to the franchise that returna everything to the way it was at the end.) Adult Timeline has WW and its sequels, the Tingle games, and after the great flood recedes and reveals the ruins of old Hyrule once again, people return to the land and we eventually get BotW and TotK. Finally the Abandoned Timeline has the 2D games like LTTP era, Zelda 1, Zelda 2, Echoes of Wisdom, etc. This timeline has pig beastman Ganon. The only caveat in all this is in TotK with the rito ancestor. That should have been a zora. But I chalk that up to the devs either not thinking about WW lore or not wanting to confuse casual players.

You should check out Thinking at Max Volume, he does really good Zelda theories, and his first ever video was about Tears of the Kingdom's placement in the timeline. Also, you should check out Broseph LaCasque's video analysing all the time travel in the series, I think he explains very well why I don't like adding more timeline splits.

A popular theory, dont know who started it or when, is that Skyward sword caused a timeline break, like how we have the child and adult timelines because of Ocerina(?) Of Time, and that Wild and Tears take place in that timeline. Cant remember the specifics but it was cause in tears you can get a...armor set(?) That when worn makes you look like a past Hero, and that hero wasnt a Hylian but a Zoni. And so we needed to figure out how there was a Hero that wasnt a Hylian. Making Hyrule warriors canon would help with Wild and Tears placement, but sadly it isnt canon.

That theory has been debunked since 2017 by Aonuma who confirmed that Botw is after Oot on the timeline.

@Ahouro huh, never heard it was debunked. Still doesn't explain how/why one of the past heroes was a Zoni and not a Hylian. Unless that person also addressed that.

It’s really not that complicated. Hyrule Warriors isn’t canon for one thing and the games even outright tell where they take place sometimes. Yeah the new open world games are off to the side but even that had justification in the game.

Yeah there's another Zelda warrior games The other one is Hyrule warriors age of calamity. Not Canon because of time travel making a separate own timeline branch what if link never lost between the calamity 100 years ago

@ Exactly and it is so weird people look to them despite both being confirmed non-canonical. I still see some people insist on those two games despite the games themselves saying otherwise. For example the portals between timelines in Hyrule Warriors were sealed, so how can they mix if the events were undone?

I always figured that the zora couldn't survive the flood from windwaker was because they were fresh water fish and salt water is bad for fresh water fish

@@leerylapine3728 to be fair I remember there being river Zora and Ocean Zora. So at the least the River Zora would've died out/ evolved to survive. The Great Flood is Magical/Divine in nature so It could be that's why the Ocean Zora also disappeared.

@@knightofblackfyre7950 the ones in ocarina in time were definitely fresh water... unless the river from zora's domain is salt water. Don't river zora's only show up in the downfall timeline?

I remember reading a while ago that the zora couldn't survive because the mystical waters summoned by the great flood doesn't have enough oxygen in it for zora to survive. They either had to flee Hyrule or move to land. Those that moved to land took over Death Mountain, using the scales of the guardian dragon Valoo to turn themselves avian so they could survive out of water. Those zora that fled for a new home left Hyrule and remained unchanged.

Their fix don't work because you need to ignore lore for it to work as we know that Oot takes place after Oot on the timeline and the Gerudo didn't have a male leader after the king who became the Calamity which makes it impossible for Totk past to be before Oot.
