You never really see the Kirby fandom discussion becoming violent or overwhelmingly negative, and it's because they understand the childlike wonder behind the character and see no need to question things tirelessly. Unlike most other characters in this game who, well... debate tends to stir over every little thing from their respective series. Great pick for the lone survivor, in my opinion.

Honestly, this is really sad to hear. But also in a way, sweet. He saved his own creations and I love the fact Kirby survived since Kirby was basically the start of Sakurai's career. This theory is great and probably accurate. Solid video.

This theory really makes sense as you play as Kirby in the beginning of the World of Light story mode. Kirby could also represent Sakurai (I mean it would be funny if you start playing as the Master Hand in this mode) as it was his creation--the beginning of successes in his game development career--and his embodiment of Kirby would be a catalyst in saving the soulless crossover of characters and thus would be a "celebration" of these franchises, as Matpat stated.

Then I thought back to the cinematic parts of the Sephiroth trailer and thought about what Sakurai was talking about with regards to the lack of Final Fantasy music until he launched. If Galeem represents corporate interests and Sephiroth makes his big entrance by slicing it in half, I can draw multiple parallels to how much of a pain Sakurai claims getting 9 cues with him was despite Reggie's claim that they had never been turned down for a character being in Smash, even if the most immediate parallel is to him killing Shinra's namesake president

Wow. That was a heavy theory, and I hate to admit that Masahiro Sakurai is absolutely right. I get that fans are crazy and they want more, I absolutely get how corporations want to churn out more of the same content (with a fresh coat of paint) just to satisfy the customers and/or get rich. But I don't think there is a reasonable way of going about this. Nowadays, creativity is risk. Making one bad call can turn the backs of multiple fans and shareholders. Until such a time where consumers are receptive to more creativity, or until the demands of shareholders lessen to allow for more freedom of design, I don't think we will EVER reach the "true ending". Thank you, MatPat (and The Completionist), for making this theory. I think this is a wake up call to the current gaming industry, especially with all the recent drama from Blizzard, EA, Bethesda, and so on.

This was, by far, one of the most thought provoking theories I've watched on the channel. I think I paused the video 4-7 times just to take a moment to go "wait what!?" Or to think over what had just been discussed. I was completely confused by what was going on with the endings, but this honestly made tons of sense. As sad as it is for such an amazing franchise I grew up with to come to a close, it's still amazing that I got to be a part of it and enjoyed it as a fun loving casual with my friends and family.

The anguish he must’ve felt while working on games that he wanted to be the last in the series was, and is still weighing on him heavily. I love how MatPat just does these things. Even if they have no reason (Like how many nuggets do you need to survive the jump of the nugget cave) or if it is important (Like the effect on a persons life from us fans). This video shows that fandom is great, but we all as a community never realized the effect we put on Sakurai. BTW, This is 100% my favorite video I have watched in a long time. Just the importance and matter of this video touched me. I can't help but notice that SSB might come to an end early because of us. I am very sorry for Sakurai.

I've got a lot of respect for this man Sakurai. He's a smart game developer who is always proud of what he creates and doesn't want to succumb to greed and money like other American game companies who exploit their creations for a profit. Yet he's still tied to all of what he despises with the threat of his creations being lost to the people who want what he has. He's a bit of a tragic Hero of sorts. A good guy. He's an inspiration to me.

Now that Sora is here I hope Sakurai gets the biggest vacation that anyone has ever gotten! He is an amazing man, creator and director. He always did everything to make a great game that we fans love, even throwing his wishes and beliefs aside. He even bent the laws of nature by conquering the beast Disney and getting Sora for us in Smash. As a fan of Smash I surely hope for a new entry anytime in the future but I hope Sakurai will be either not involved so he finally gets his wish or that he comes back but only if he himself desides to. #thankyousakurai

There was, he said it was because Kirby was the only choice which could theoretically escape - "While the team needed a "convincing reason for why said character could outrun Galeem," most characters with "normal" abilities were immediately disqualified. Considering this onslaught enveloped the "ends of the galaxy" only a vehicle that "could defy the laws of physics would work." Kirby, thanks to his trusted Warp Star, has the ability to warp and that makes for the most believable reason that he would be the one to escape and live to fight another day and save his friends. Sakurai also reveals that the other two characters who may have stood a chance were Bayonetta or Palutena. However, Bayonetta's enemies from Purgatorio were turned into Spirits and "other divine beings like Hades" didn't survive, so these two characters just couldn't quite make it. Lastly, he wanted a character that was simple and easy to use for the starting one, and "as you may have seen in The Smashing Life, Kirby was voted as the character they should play first. I really had no other choice than Kirby."
