The "scrapped material" from the Rayman Raving Rabbids mobile trailer is actually not scrapped at all. The footage from the trailer comes from a different version of the game designed for phones with a small screen resolution. It took me forever to find this version on the internet back in the day but I eventually found it and I still got it's java file today. I can PM you this version if you like.

I remember playing the J2ME version of Rayman Raving Rabbids back when it came out and it did had those two sections that you showed as missing (the pig and the pirate hat). From my memories of j2me games they usually had like 10 different versions each so finding the better version of the bunch can be hard, especially nowadays. The main reason I remember that game is because of how much of a Sonic clone it was.

They were some hell of good games on Java Mobile, my very first introduction to Final Fantasy was on that platform. And boy, I farmed the hell out of FF1 on my phone, it was just the perfect formula, every time I had a few minutes to kill, I'd grind some mobs, or explore a little. I loved that version so much when I switched phones, I bougth it again to restart a game ! I also remember some smart tactics game like Advance Wars, but it was based on the Transformers IP, there were some really good arcade games like crazy tetris that had 10 different gameplay variants and great aesthetics, I remember playing Worms MULTIPLAYER, as it was a turn based game, you'd give the phone to your friends and each play your turn. We had a hell of fun honestly. Some gameloft games were good, but some were the same formula slapped over a licence, I precisely remember the "9 levels formulas", each game at the time, be it Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia, movie games like Need for Speed, Tron at the time, etc all had 1 intro, 7 levels that had 2 varied gameplays, often one side scrolled, and the second a vehicule phase, and the level 9 was the boss fight. I think the Rayman games were no exception and I bet they're 9 level based too. If you digged you could find some amazing arcade games that were actually smart, and some good NES / GBA games.

the physical release of rayman bowling on the n-gage isn't actually "physical"....nor "for the n-gage". it was sold only in the uk, in the same plastic case as the n-gage games, but only contained a download code and a manual. the download code was for a specific version of the game (symbian s60 at 176x208pixels) that worked on a few nokia models (most notably, yes, the n-gage). there was also a version for rayman golf if i'm not mistaken.

Rayman 3 on the N-Gage is actually substantially different, not using J2ME, and instead using the N-Gage's actual hardware to decent effect. These are the faults of Java, however. You'll usually not find much quality assurance. $5 is appropriate for that Java rendition, I'd say (for its time).

@@FrameRater I know I'm coming back late on this, but closer examination, as well as my experience with the N-Gage, tells me that Rayman 3 on the N-Gage isn't much more than a port of the GBA game, a common practice for the platform. Splinter Cell, Sonic N, Crash Nitro Kart, Super Monkey Ball, just to name a few of the games that are merely ports from GBA to N-Gage. Fun fact, there are as many retail games for the N-Gage as the Atari 7800 you reviewed recently.

PNY? Paris/New-York Technologies. Also Mario Kart are HANDHELD games. Rayman Kart is on MOBILE. There's a difference. The former refers to dedicated gaming devices, the latter to shitty phones that are held down by horrible J2ME performance. That it might have been the best of its kind on MOBILE is potentially not wrong. J2ME games were almost universally horrible, and weren't considered 'good' time-wasters even back then.
