The acrylic switch box is actually great for a place that has like a game room for public to use. I work at a library and we have used these for other consoles and we bolt the acrylic box to whatever furniture the console is sitting on. It is a limited use and yes they are easy to break open but they serve the purpose of slowing down or making enough noise to give staff a chance to notice. Now granted this is a very niche thing but they do serve a purpose.

The screen protector for the switch dock is actually to protect the switch from the dock. The early models of the switch docks would scratch the switch screen overtime with repeated docking. @@KingJohnMichael I could be totally wrong, but I believe he is poetically referring to people choosing to find some good in everything, allowing them to experience joy and happiness instead of letting negativity guide them and weigh them down; puddle-jumping is much like dancing in the rain in that regard. In my personal experience, puddle-jumping is a positive action. I've never met any frowning puddle jumpers, anyway. Most people get cranky and annoyed when it rains; they choose to let it be a negative experience. Some people try to find the opportunity for positivity in the middle of less-than-ideal situations and go puddle jumping. Jake discussing the state of gaming is a lot like a kid having a blast jumping in muddy puddles because he chooses to not be bothered by the rain. While his use of the term "puddle jumping" seems jovial and good-natured to me, it is possible he meant something completely different. I'm not trying to speak for anyone; that's just how I interpret that particular figure of speech.

The "Switch Guard" (7:55) is actually incredibly useful - but you don't understand it's use. See, I worked on a cruise ship where we had little kids coming and going in a *supervised* play area with video game consoles. Every single console always was encased in a custom acrylic case like that Switch Guard to prevent kids from accessing them when they weren't allowed to, or tampering with them or somehow otherwise damaging them. The case is simply an extra layer of protection from "quick" tampering in an area where there is already supervision and monitoring going on. These cases aren't designed to prevent anyone from *stealing* the device, so your criticism of it's usefulness is simply based on your misunderstanding of it's use.

@@scheffetz That's exactly what it's typical use is. Every store that has a video game console on public display for customers to play with is going to want one. It's a product designed for commercial use, not home use. So, reviewing it as a home use product doesn't really make sense.

The Puma "Gaming socks" were adapted from a sport shoe intended for Ball hockey and indoor lacrosse, the only thing they changed was the ankle and forefoot materials to make them more soft. A friend of mine who plays goal in ball hockey bought a pair of the gaming version and modified them with moulded plastic attachments to sit within her goal pads, as they provided her the best grip and flexibility instead of a standard running shoe. I imagine the precision rings are more similar to changing the deadzone on your joystick than simply changing the overall sensitivity. It would make it easier to make small adjustments without completely nerfing your potential speed. I've been in plenty of situations in games where I meant to make a subtle, slow movement and ended up going much faster than intended, and I imagine that extra bit of stick resistance would make a pretty big difference compared to just adjusting a slider in the settings.

I actually have the PS5 dust cover and have always used it ever since I got it. Of course you only put the cover when the console is not in use which is really helpful especially in our place which can get pretty dusty at times. Also they're selling 2 versions of the dust cover. One for when your console is placed vertically and another one when you're using it horizontally.

Actually, i think those rings, given if they were actually sized to specific controller designs, makes sense to me to an extent. I get it. Adding more resistance could reduce your chances for overshooting a target by making full tilt joystick movements more deliberate. I remember having some trouble with that when i was much, much younger.

With the dust cover... take it off before you use your console. It's meant to keep dust off of it when it's not being used. See, I saw them and thought of another totally unrelated use. Over the years, I've noticed my PS2 and PS3 controllers tend to gather dust in the recess directly underneath the analog stick and causes it to gum up with use. I feel, at the very least, these could be useful for preventing that too. Similar concept to how I use those analog stick covers, as I use those on controller like my various Xbox ones as the analogs are notorious for shredding with use going all the way back to the OG Xbox so I use them to protect that rather than having to buy knockoff replacement parts that are lower quality or over priced OEM components as it it cheaper to replace a set of rubber caps.

@@ingramfry7179if you were to get them i believe you should only get the kontrol freek ones, they’re more durable than another brand i’ve tried as the ones i have now have lasted since may and are still fine. i have a dual sense pro controller, and i can take off the normal joystick to easily put a ring on, but when i had a normal controller, you actually have to pull it over the joystick and doing that over and over again eventually wears it out and it rips so if i didn’t have a pro controller i would be spending way more on these rings. they come with 6 rings with 2 for each resistance. i only use low, so i’m paying like $30 for two rings. you definitely need a joystick extender like the kontrol freek ones to make good use of these though, just by themself with a normal joystick isn’t optimal. the kontrolfreek joysticks also cost a fair amount too, so where i am i’ve spent like $70 on controller accessories alone, nearly the amount of a normal controller.

My buddy and his kids have several and none are scratch and they don't even have screen protectors. This is like the PS5 in the vertical will cause the CPU to leak out, it just doesn't really happen.

Honestly with the precision rings I find they are somewhat useful, my DS4 controller was drifting a bit and the very light ring one helped it stay in place more. add to that a silicone cover that is a bit high and after a couple of days I could play and aim normally again. I can see their purpose in FPSes with the long Z height analog covers for aiming with aim assist when you try to counter the recoil with the opposite analog movement you can easily go too far to the opposite direction. They also help in driving games when drifting

Also, in the case that the controller analog is too loose in general they can help add a bit of resistance depending on your sensitivity

The joystick sponge rings are *supposed* to shorten travel time, hypothetically improving aim and response time. I don't think it works in practice with a piece of sponge, but check out the Azeron and the resistance ring you can add to made WASD movement on a joystick closer to actual controller movement and you'll get what they are going for. But also don't buy it, it probably doesn't work in this iteration.

While most of these items suck big time, dust covers aren’t stupid. You’d literally never have to open your console up to clean if you had one of these. And it’s so obvious you’re suppose to take it off before play…no one’s that stupid, are they? Also, that vertical ps5 positioning news was blown way out of proportion. It’s totally fine having your console upright, like mine has been since launch.

The best gimmick controller was for OG xbox. Got it used at gamestop. Green, military colors, dual pistol grips. Imagine akimbo'ing 9mm's with an xbox controller on top. The L and R buttons were where triggers should be, and your thumb could easily reach the sticks, d-pad and buttons in the standard controller-hold. But holding it like a pistol meant no slippage *at all.* Even if your hands get sweaty. No need to readjust your controller when you have to hold down a directional stick one way for long periods. I'd love a modern version of one of those. I'm not digging it out of the closet to check, but I'd be willing to bet it was made by Madcatz.

The security box thing for the switch would be good for businesses that set up break rooms with gaming for their employees. The box would need to be mounted permanently for it to work properly. I used to work at a DirecTV call center and they had a GameCube with Mario Kart set up for us to play and they had a security box like this for it so someone didn't steal the game or console.

Except... The controllers need to be inserted and removed constantly from the sides of the switch - for pairing, for charging, etc. Having to constantly remove the switch to do that or whatever would be silly. A better alternative would be to simply just have a metal fastener clamp with a plastic front and rear guard and a padlock clasp. Good idea - terrible execution.

As a video game collector and a big Nintendo guy who loves handhelds and gadgets, I was given a Hyperkin Smartboy. The idea is you take your mobile out of its case and plug into this thing, which resembles the bottom half of a good old DMG Game Boy, but not before downloading an app. Now when you plug in a Game Boy or Game Boy Colour game into it, you can run the game on your phone. I can't figure out who the device is for, as if you have a stack of game cartridges you want to actually sit and play, you probably have a bunch of better options, even if you wanted an upgrade from the original pea soup coloured screen.

Immediately noticing the dock protector, the dock can and generally will scratch the screen on the Switch. Even the upgraded models are prone to it, especially if you let dust build up inside. Sure, a screen protector can protect it too, but several people were homebrewing solutions to the dock, like draping a microfiber cloth over the front rails, so that product was actually pretty useful to the right people.
@paulw858
@paulw858 Жыл бұрын
That's what I thought, too, but it's still plastic, so how much will it really help with scratching the Switch? And from the product page on Play-Asia: "It helps to protect the front of the Dock from scratches and dirt." It says nothing about protecting the Switch screen. I think it's useful for if you have a limited edition dock, to maintain its pristineness. There are other dock covers that are cloth which DO seem to be for protecting the Switch from scratches.
@RenegadePandaZ
@RenegadePandaZ Жыл бұрын
@@paulw858 It's a softer plastic than the dock, and you can clean it easier too. I'm assuming the description doesn't mention damaging the Switch because if it's a licensed Nintendo accessory, they probably don't want you outing the company's poor design.

I use the precision rings on my controllers in FPS games. I can set my sensitivity higher with them, I play CoD MWII @ a 10:10 sensitivity, but I get the same performance of a 4:4 with smaller movements. Makes my aim snappier without the over-travel I would get without them. They are also better for the longevity of the analog sticks by reducing the chance of stick drift as the sticks aren’t pressing directly against the Anti-friction rings.

The one with 3 fans on the Back of the PS5 pulling air out, are pretty good for the console. I had my PS5 turning off suddenly because of overheating; the exhaust air was reaching 60+ Celsius and after 15-30 minutes of that it goes off to protect itself. But with the accessory with 3 fans ON THE BACK (not the one that covers the bottom) the temperature while playing PS5 games no longer goes over 57°C, not elegant but they do work. But can turn noisy if you play too long at those temperatures, stop and turn off or put the system on standby and then come back after the plastic has cooled off, the expansion and contraction makes the fans noisy over time, but as soon as it goes back over 50 it goes silent again.

I think one niche use for number 15 the switch dock protector could be to customize your switch, get a few of them and either paint them or stick on some decals and you could just slip them onto the dock and have a custom look. They would be interchangeable and never actually alter the dock itself.

The Switch Guard has a practical purpose. I helped a non-profit organize a public gaming event as a fundraiser in March that involved setting up several Switches with wired controllers for drunk people to play Mario Kart. The concern wasn't someone sneaking in and stealing them so much as surreptitiously swiping a console from out of the dock. That said, we just 3D-printed some plastic clip things that locked the console inside the dock. The event was a huge success, by the way, so of course they fired me two weeks later.
