Number 3 doesn't really belong on the list. As game has a manual that normal people would look through while the game installs. So at that time devs gave you everything you need. Modern titles just don't give as manuals anymore so they need to teach us how to play a game in game.

I actually played through all three Super Star Wars games in SNES, and completed them. No, seriously- I did. While Empire certainly was a little taxing, Super Star Wars was the only one that really gave me any shit. There was a cheat that gave you the lightsaber from the start, and another that increased your lives to I believe 7(?), and I did have to use those cheats to make it through. The second and third are a actually doable, they really are. The beginning of Jedi has you pilot a landspeeder in an F-Zero type setup...it looks great for 16 but, but it was one of those pain in the ass levels that you literally have to keep playing until you memorize the jumps and where the boulder obstacles are. Think the stupid hover bike level in Battletoads. PS- I nearly gave up on writing this post after "Autocorrect" changed the word to landsleeper, lame screaming, and Kane schemers about five times each. I almost rage launched this goddam phone into the wall, but in the end, I persevered, I persevered.

The gamer gear mention for Sonic is a great addition here. When you say, "oh this game was so difficult" and a young kid is like, "I played that, it wasn't that hard" "yeah kid, playing the 'remastered' version, updated, or emulated version, isn't the same thing. We had COMPLETELY different experiences. Having just a smaller screen with worse resolution and slower response controls makes a HUGE difference in games and can really UP the difficulty.

I fell in love with the original Deus Ex very early on. You just had to know a few things to make the first level easier. First is the weapon choice given to you by you brother Paul, Sniper Rifle, the mini crossbow, or a GEP Gun, essentially a rocket launcher. The first two you can find in level, multiple cross bows and 1 one sniper rifle, if the sniper doesn't get you first. The GEP can be use to take out the Bot guarding the terrorists hideout. But there are other was around it. Another item to help is the Med-Bot in one of the shipping containers to the left as you enter from the port. You also have the skills tree to work with, and everybody plays them differently, so that is up to the player. Have fun !

Alternatively, you can throw the gas grenade at the start over the wall of the UNATCO base towards the front door. This causes the guard in the reception area to come investigate. Once he opens the door from the inside you can run past him and skip the entire statue stage of the game.

Love that game. The trick to that first stage especially, besides knowing where all the chests are, is that you have way more time than the timer makes you think you do. When you think now's your chance to advance, gotta go, don't. Keep waiting, or you're gonna die. Unless you're talking about speed running it, that's a whole other ballgame. Also the torch is hands down the best weapon in the game, even though it has the steepest learning curve after the Tri-blade.

The 1st level of Deus Ex is only "difficult" if you approach it as though the game is an FPS. You're much, much better off leaning into the RPG elements. Some exploration and enemy loot can get you various grenades, some melee weapons, a shotgun, a sniper rifle, and a half dozen or so weapon mods, all before taking on the statue. And even within that, there are a few different ways to approach the statue and how you choose to go about it can significantly alter your experience.
@davidbondy2250
@davidbondy2250 Жыл бұрын
You pretty much beat me to this. Deus Ex is at its hardest when a player doesn't use its sandbox, and Liberty Island is the most unforgiving in this regard because it is when the player is least-equipped to deal with enemies in combat.

You can get passwords for computers to use turrets against people, you can blow them up with explosive TNT boxes, you can force mechs to enemies, you can lure enemies to allies. That and you get to choose which weapons you get, so the video is inaccurate with "you just start off with"

I bought Deus Ex when it first came out, before it was even a thing, and I've started playing it dozens of times over the years. And I've stopped playing it every time before finishing the first level. Its difficulty, combined with its general clunkiness and silly animations (even at the time) all work together to drive me away. Too bad, too, because I think I'd really love the story of I could just get into it.

@@jimnewl really? I never thought of the opening level as difficult. I was around 12 when I played it the first time. I don't remember the first level of Jedi Outcast being difficult, though? I loved that game. Played through it several times. But the only challenge I really remember was when it tosses the almost force immune enemies at you out of nowhere a chunk of the way through the game. And in Pokemon Yellow, the first gym was easy if you collected a mankey. Low Kick is a low level anti-rock ability that clears the gym in just a few attacks.
@zachg8904
@zachg8904 Жыл бұрын
He doesn’t show it at any point but the alt fire for the blaster pistol in outcast was insanely strong. That level wasn’t remotely hard. But this video is also one where he’s acting like the developers specifically made Pikachu’s attacks not affect Brock’s Pokémon when that’s just how typing works and how that region is (so they couldn’t just switch the gyms around, that’s not the badge order). So all that is to say, I think this video, compared to many of the others I’ve watched on this channel, is them exaggerating for the sake of content.

The first encounter of RE7 on madhouse is the hardest fight in the entire game. But still, I played the game over & over till I had explored every corner of every level. The really agrivating part of the game for me was how Kyle Katarn just couldn't stick the landing whenever you had him jump to a ledge. I can't count how many times I had to restart at checkpoint or reload last save because Kyle Katarn bounced off the ledge and into a chasm. To me, Jedi Academy was the better game.

About Fallout 2 opening. It's purposely made this difficult so that by the end when you meet the final "human boss" of the level, you have no health or perception and are forced to find a way out without fighting. Which IS POSSIBLE. But you can also brute force your way out or intimidate him into not even fighting if you put points in the right stats. The whole point of the intro area of fallout 2 is to show, yeah you can fight whoever you want but there are times where you can get out of a jam without violence and simply by talking your way out.

I nominate Divinity original sin 2 with Fort Joy. There's just so much damn stuff to do and you're not sure whether its something completely pointless or something that will completely screw you over later on down the line. Plus the fact that it took me more than a day to complete it my first playthrough. The level feels like a entire game on its own.

@@ShawnJ96 Switch version came out more than two years after the original release, so I bet that they were able to fix at least some of the issues in the time between. “Morrowind is hard because they don’t tell you what the skills do.” High Long Blade skill makes you better at using long blades. It’s pretty self-explanatory. The reason people always miss during fights is because they probably tried to use the iron dagger on the table when their short blade skill is like 5/100. That, and their stamina is too low because they keep running everywhere instead of walking.

Not a well-known game, but Dungeon Travelers 2 on the PS Vita had easily the most brutal opening level of any RPG I've ever played. I died twice before finally kinda getting the hang of what I was doing, and the game still required a brutal amount of grinding just in order to finish it, and possibly the most mind-numbing grind to a platinum trophy I've ever bothered doing.

It's upsetting that Contra for the SNES didn't even get mentioned. Trust me, I've let kids play that game on my SNES mini. None could get through the first level and if they did, HELL was awaiting them on the other side in the form of a wonky top down shooter where enemies respawned immediately. I love that game though. Kids today get health bars and saves where we had to master not getting one shotted the entire game. That's right kids, there was no easy mode for us.

I never had a problem with any level in the SNES Star Wars games. Except lvl 1 in Empire Strikes back. I could not finish that level and saw the boss only once. I just ended up getting the password or lvl 2 and playing from there. It was a lot more fun at that point.

In pokemon yellow it is possible to get all three starters. If you go to the first three pokemon centers you can talk to people from the anime that just give you one of the starters. I believe Squirtle can't be obtained until after Brock but you can get Bulbasaur first which makes the fight a cake walk.

I'm pretty sure you guys mentioned Lion King in the first video, but I would put it in the list for every such video. And I totally get the battery eating aspect of the GameGear. I had those extra large grip batteries that were rechargeable, and they didn't improve things. When they died, it was all plug, all the time whenever I wanted to play it. Also, even though it's my favorite game, when I first started playing FFT, I didn't fully understand how the game worked, and the first 10 levels kind of through you in the blender right off. It took me a lot of failure to understand how that game worked and move on from there, but boy am I glad I stuck with it, because I play through it at least once a year now.
