Karlach is such a fascinating character. I’ve heard a few people comment on how she could be this wholesome after everything she’s been through and it’s true. Most traditional characters in that situation like Batman or Kratos turn into hardened machines that had to grow up too fast but Karlach… Karlach went the other way. She compartmentalized and sustained the naive side of her (the side that never stopped hoping for a hug or a way to break out of the Hells) and was such a good fighter, she actually got away with it. It’s a beautiful, spectacularly ludicrous form of arrested development and yet still works. It’s such a unique way of telling a coming-of-age story.

This is bugged out for me I think. I get the dialogue where she wants me to touch her, but then I never get the midnight date. Even after upgrading her heart and doing a long rest. I think all the romance quests are bugged out for me. Not one has worked in my first play-through. Can't even get laid in the fantasy realm. Go figure, HA!

Should note that the events will start a "queue", so sometimes if you want to speed things along you'll have to take multiple long rests in a row. I don't recommend it because it can break certain quests, but if you're impatient you'll eventually get to the scene you're looking for as long as you've met the requirements. I had to do 3 long rests in a row in act 2 before I got the scene because I kept getting other scenes instead.

For some reason Dammon isn't in A2 for me. I had him do the upgrade in A1 and I helped all the tieflings get out of the grove. He just isn't in A2 now for osme reaosn. The journal tells me to meet him at Baldur's gate so maybe I have to wait until then now...

Did you kill the Strange Ox in Act1? If you did he doesn't show up in inn in act 2 from what I've read.

Spoilers! Like the other person said, if you kill the strange ox he doesn’t appear in act 2 for some reason, so that could be it. But also when you get to act 2 at the Last Light Inn where he is, if you don’t successfully save isobel a fight breaks out and all the NPCs will get possessed by the shadow curse and die, Dammon being one of them. This happened before I found anymore infernal iron upgrades for karlach, and I was just gonna let it go until I realized Dammon was gonna die so I kept redoing the fight until I was able to save her. It seems Dammon isn’t supposed to join that fight via the patch notes for their most recent update because then it locks you out of karlachs quest line. So, if you were unable to stop isobel being taken by marcus then that’s why. It seems in the future that particular thing won’t be a problem anymore.

You can find him in the last light Inn, he’s smithing near the main Inn. Not inside it but near it, passing the Inn I believe.

I love Karlach so much, I romanced her in my first play through, when I went to the graveyard and she mentioned her parents, I felt so sorry for her, I brought some flowers from the seller in the corner on the graveyard and played them in front of her parents grave, even if there was no additional special diolouge or anything, I felt so wholesome to do something nice for her family

Karlach is so cute. She has a sad backstory and a really nice person when we get to know her. She's honest and speak up her mind about it and that's why I love her so much. If I ever get to play this game and make a custom character to date her in storymode then I choose to be a male muscular barbarian bronze dragonborn with golden skin, flaming red eyes, reptile frilled crest, no chin attachments, no jaw attachment or porcupine chops jaw, no piercing, no eye make up, and of course a spiky tail.

You should make a second fix for her engine after the first night in cursed lands. Otherwise her romance scene will be skipped for story-making cutscenes (guard comes in the first night)

Just got to romance on act 2 and I have to say, as someone who already finished a playthrough romancing Shadowheart and now going on with Karlach, I have to admit I regret not being with Karlach from the start, I mean, Shadowheart really is a pain in the ass to get things going from start, it sure takes it´s time to finally reach a climax by act 3 and even after the climax is reached, I dunno, things feel kind of meh afterwards, even the kisses give kind of a cold feeling like "ok, we are togheter, we are kissing, now moving on", but with Karlach things just flow so well from the start and when you ask for a kiss on dialogues afterwards, the way she just prolongs it, as if it was the most precious thing on the world to be having that kiss and touching someone, that is just pure love right there, you can tell how much she values this romance while with shadowheart if feels like she doesn´t care as much. Also, gotta love the neat detail about her flames turning blue on the spiciest moments of this romance, showing just how intense she is feeling and the fire responds in kind.

So I'm in a weird spot, right after the second upgrade, when you first show up to the inn, mazora shows up that night and then the dream girl shows up too . Should I go to sleep that night first and then upgrade karlachs engine? Cause when I do the engine first, I dont get the romace scene... Imma try it and make an edit later when i find out. Edit: Okay, now wyll is cockblocking me. I stick up for him against mizora and now he wants to jump my bones. Ugh!! I restarted 72 hours in when i realized i couldn't romace karlach and now it seems like the game is throwing everything it has to keep me from karlach now. WTH AM I DOING WRONG? Do i, idk, wait on the engine, do the dream girl scene, then upgrade, then mizora, then ask karlach about the egine so maybe itll active that way? Idk man this is starting to piss me off frfr. Play Pretend with Karlach makes me so fucking sad. Her entire romance makes me sad. Every bit of it seems tailored to the “she’s going to die” ending. Every bit of her dialogue is drenched in tragedy. I’ve rarely had a game make me cry, but this one… oh, this one did. I think I sorta fell in love with Karlach. Problem with that is that there is no Karlach in real life. Not even close. No girl that resembles her, or shadowheart or lae'zel. Isn't that the reason why we play these games? I suppose in a way we play pretend all the time. With the game itself. Living a virtual life of adventure and romance we could never have in rea life. We are the real tragedy here in reality. I know how hard it is to be alone, for years and years. That doesn't make you a loser. The only thing it makes you is unfortunate. Maybe there is something to learn from video games? Our characters in games do crazy things sometimes. Throwing themselves into the unknown. Going to hell to save their lover for example. Maybe that's what we should do more often. Be brave and do bold things. In my life experience I've learned that the worst thing that can happen to a person is to feel empty, to be completely alone. So that thought alone should eliminate any fear and doubt you may have about doing something wild and taking risks, because you could never feel any greater pain that that of being alone. No matter how you screw up, it can't possibly be worse that loneliness. But if you take risks, there is also a chance you may succeed and find your Karlach somewhere out there. I hope you do. Did her love cutscene get replaced by another cutscene? For me, I had Mizora show up and the next night, Wyll tried to flirt with me. I fixed it by going back to and old save where I just reached last light (make a save as soon as you get there) talking to the druid lady getting close enough to the barn for Karlach to notice Dammon but not interact., Then I went bed to trigger Mizora. I long rested a second time to reject Wyll, then talked to Dammon and fixed Karlach. Then I finally got the romance scene to work. Only one cutscene can trigger per night and she won't delay it. You might need to do even more if you get really unlucky lol

I fixed up her heart as soon as we got to Last Light Inn at the beginning of Act 2 but Karlach never triggered the night you spend together until a bit later on just after I beat Malus Thorm. Seems like the cutscene with Mizora takes prio if it hasn't happened yet.

@@eredsiesss6623 i did the same :') i've tried everything but i've created a new character for that. It's VERY bad tbh. Every man tried to approach me, Halsin even in Act 3, while the girls will probably never going to romance you if you miss romancing them at the party after saving the grove in act 1. It's crazy that i've missed Karlach's romance just because i've found her after saving the grove. Romancing is a plus of the game, it doesn't have to be so tricky, it should be way easier. If you rank up your relationship with them, you should be able to start romancing them from the camp at anytime. I've also read so many people struggling on reddit, losing hours and hours of gameplay trying to fix this or even starting the game over...

1) doesn´t matter as long as you fix her with Dammon on a dialogue, but it is important that you do that before the long rest party so that you can make a first move on her during the party. 2) After the hugging part, took me a few long rests before she pretty much asked for sex and things went on, but then again I had already develloped something on the party after saving the grove, not sure if things will go on assuming you only started fixing her on act 2.

The first event just refuses to fire for me, I don't know why. I have no romances with other companions going on, she has the first upgrade, I've compared medium, to high, to very high approval, and not only does the event not happen on long rest it doesn't even happen at the tiefling party. How long was this game pushed back again? What even is playtesting?

If you have the option to hug, kiss, or put your hand on her, I'm pretty sure me and some people would straight up kiss her. I know she likes hugs, but she's too cute to not to kiss her.

The thing I noticed about the rpg romances in video games is that there is almost no wooing on the part of the npc. They seem to never or almost never program the npc to pursue and woo the PC. It’s always the pc that completes the quests, performs all the actions and makes all the choices and gives all the gifts. One day, there will be a more advanced game that has an intelligent program for npcs that learn sort of like chat gpt and the npcs will mimicking sentience and free will. Sometimes, an npc may even reject the PC for no obvious reasons (maybe for unobvious reasons like terrible style when crafting armor, too much time spent mining etc…reasons that cannot be easily determined by those offering game guides) rejection should be a thing too because if we always just get what we want, then it’s not exciting. It’s all too easy. Just crook your finger in any direction and the males flock forward, all too eager to please. Boring …but these uploads are great. Thanks for sharing!

I think you're thinking a bit too deeply about it, these fantasy games handle romance in the same way as everything else. It's easy to become powerful, it's easy to save people and be the hero, it's easy to get laid. It's easy on purpose.

Karlach’s whole “burning people whenever she touches them” thing is a lot like Shionne’s Thorn Curse from Tale of Arise due to how people get electrocuted by Shionne’s thorns whenever someone touches them.

Oh dear gods above and below, how the people have forgotten. See, there used to be this absolute gem called "Planescape Torment" back in the day. DnD 2nd edition rules, concerns interplanary settings, with Sigil on the center, and the outer planes. There was this companion there, named "Annah of the Shadows". She too was a tiefling girl and she too, would burn you after you kissed her. So much so that if you actually passed a certain check during kissing, you'd gain resistance to fire. I see this mechanic here as an absolute homage to that wonderful game, and if it is indeed so, then it's a beautiful render, that they'd pay respect to the legacy of one of, if not the greatest RPG ever made. I know I sound like an absolute snob, and I'd apologize for it, because it was not my intention. I've grown old, the new generation has overtook the old, both in rules and in storytelling. My time has passed, however brief it may seem. But it warms my weary heart to see these stories, living in some form or another. And, I should also add that, this ending here is also seen in the ending of Planescape Torment. Not to give spoilers, but the "I'll risk hell for you" and "my time is over, hell calls me" overtones are almost exactly same. As the chaste cleric of the Abyss once said, "Time is not your enemy. Forever is"

I did everything in Act II as you did it, but then the next time I took a long rest, the GODS DAMNED GUARDIAN showed up and I never got that night with Karlach. So for everbody wondering: take a long rest immediatly after letting Damon fix her engine.

at 5:39 if you don't have a cold spell you can change your class (100 gold) to wizard and then use ray of frost and then change back
