The illusion of progress part I never thought about. That really made me question myself. Part of why I play games as much as I do is simply because it’s a way for me to distract myself from IRL loneliness. There’s no one within a decade of my age to hang out with or relate to in my neighborhood, I was bullied in middle and high school and never treated like a real person, and I don’t even have any siblings. Through games though, I did make some great friends online but in the end they’re not people I can smile at or be next to. It’s really all I have socially. Maybe I’d feel better if I moved away from games anyway and went fishing or sketched drawings more often, or further pursued my other hobbies, but who knows

Depends. If you're using video games to escape real-life responsibilities, then yes. But this can apply to anything. If you can learn a *valuable* skill that's not too time consuming, you can play video games as much as you want 5+ years later.

I agree with the first half, But I think games have been designed to be really addictive and keep u trapped. So It's better to avoid these traps completely

@@rayhan_h07I disagree, it's not necessarily that video games are "really addicting" that keeps people coming back. It's the fact that these said people, haven't found anything else to better spend their time with. So they turn to video games because they're entertaining and because it's an easy task.

Personally I also consider myself to be a competitive person like you. What keeps me playing in the long run is not the ranking/progression system, but a mix of desire to accomplish better and also because I've grown accustomed to wasting time.

It’s all about balance! But yes I agree that balance can be hard to find
@rayhan_h076 күн бұрын
Hmm, but I still think that the time u spend playing games can be used more beneficially for your self development

Even if you do find a balance, one day you might realize that it was all a waste.

Yeah, exactly. As soon as you stop playing the game, all your progress is lost as u enter the real world

i play games most for fun, instead of scrolling through six hours of reels, lol, i jus play games 2 hours a day
@rayhan_h076 күн бұрын
I still personally think 2 hours takes a substantial part of your day, but if this works for you, then I think you're doing better than those doomscrollers
