🤔 This guy gave me an idea, James... Use a cheap rectangular pan, and use it to "cast" a portable game unit in hot glue! 🤣 _(purely a joke idea... because in reality it's a bad idea, as not only would it probably kill the project due to the heat and duration for it to cool down; but even if it didn't, the fact there's no air would caused whatever circuits to undoubtedly overheat)_

1:21 Phillips is a "universal" screw head (can be turned by Phillips or flathead screwdrivers), while flathead is in the same respect a "universal" screwdriver -- this doesn't seem odd or out of place to me! This way, in case they mess up (or run out) and include the wrong type of screws/driver, they don't have to swap out the other component as well
@Games_for_James21 сағат бұрын
As a mechanic I could not disagree more, using the wrong tools damages the tool and the fastener. Even the wrong sized phillips driver for a phillips screw gets a frown from me. There are screws designed to accept both but these are not them.

3:21 Here in Europe, we used Scart connectors for basically everything we hooked into our TVs since sometime in the 80s. I know it was capable of a better image than composite, but I'm not sure if the European SNES (or other consoles at the time) was actually capable of outputting something better than composite? At that time, I had a Commodore Amiga instead. I do remember when I got the original PlayStation right after launch, it just came with a composite cable with a Scart dongle attached to it as standard. I quickly bought the proper official Sony Scart cable to replace it, which was a huge upgrade in image quality.
@blusterkong4556Күн бұрын
It's able to output raw RGBS though the AV out, but not certain if official SCART cables passed the pins
@liamh1982Күн бұрын
SNES RGB output is really blurry (it looks like the image has streaked horizontally is the best way I can put it) unless you have a later 1-chip revision model or perform a mod. Otherwise, you're probably better off using S-Video honestly - yes, there's a bit of colour bleed and artifacting but not so much of the blur. I think the Saturn (at least at first) was the first console to come with an RGB SCART cable as standard in some European markets, if you don't count France where I think it was a legal requirement that any device that connected to a TV had to have RGB-compliant output available.
@caranookКүн бұрын
My DVD player still uses scart and looks surprisingly decent for such a chunky connector, although I’m terrified of damaging the pins every time I plug it in.
@holnrewКүн бұрын
This year I got my first TV without SCART inputs. It feels weird even though i have nothing that needs it
@elbeetlebeastoКүн бұрын
The creator of this screen should've made the part where it fits on the console an adjustable/retractable/universal doodad so you can fit it on different kinds of consoles. Or make it so you can easily swap out the bottom part with your own 3D printed one. Still really cool though. Thanks for the vid James! Merry Christmas!

James, add a bluetooth transmitter into that screen so you can use wireless headphones or speakers with it. My favorite is the KCX BT transmitter module. Tap onto one of the 5V lines for power, and piggyback wires to the headphone jack for signal. Add sockets for the composite input and extend the headphone jack to be accessible on the side, and it'll be near perfect. If you can somehow shoehorn a stripped down HDMI switcher inside the case to switch between the Super Famicom AV to S-video converter and an additional HDMI port, then it WILL be perfect. Looks like there's enough room to fit the additional ports.

@Games_for_James the hole in the screen mount is so that you can plug in a region changing passthrough cart like a Super Magic Key which required you to plug in a local region cart in the back slot and the foreign region cart you wanted to play in the top. No idea why it has screw holes though, maybe they were going to supply a blanking plate for it.

2:23 This is likely due to the SNES's weird refresh rate of 60.08 Hz.
@ThatOneWeeb4204 сағат бұрын
2:24 The "Weird glitchy thing" is screen tearing, means the screen is running slightly slower refresh rate than the console framerate, or it was a hiccup being a probably-cheap-screen. Probably not much you can do about it.

In my experience, all consoles that aren't the slim versions up to the PS3 support s-video. It is my preferred way to connect old hardware since it's a small, single cable. I don't like the massive SCART connector and YPbPr is just a mess of connectors everywhere. On a good CRT or through a nice scaler like a RetroTINK 5x or 4K s-video looks really really good. I feel like going from s-video to SCART or YPbPr does look nicer but it isn't worth the effort and expense. Anyways, love your videos! Just wanted to gush about s-video lol

The frame tearing issue might be due to the SNES’s output being under 60hz (59.94hz). This isn’t a mark against the screen. Fixing this requires a video professor that can do triple buffering to deliver the monitor’s expected frame rate.
