Jonathan Ferguson, a weapons expert and Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries, breaks down the iconic weaponry of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019, including the SIG MCX assault rifle, the Uzi submachine gun, the Dragunov sniper rifle, and a silenced Desert Eagle. Yes, you read that right.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare saw the COD franchise return to a more gritty, realistic shooter experience, which was full to the brim with contemporary weapons like the SIG MCX assault rifle, the DP-12 shotgun, and the Russian ASh 12.7 battle rifle.
In the above video, Jonathan Ferguson, a weapons expert and Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries, breaks down the weapons of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, including the Dragunov sniper rifle, the Uzi submachine gun, and silenced versions of the Colt 1911 and the Desert Eagle. Across the video, Jonathan breaks down the weapons and their in-game functionality, and compares them to their real-world counterparts.

@w_perk5445
@w_perk5445 3 жыл бұрын
@daniel Apaez in a really really simplified description what suppressors do (technically the patent is “silencer” although they only really suppress the sound but call it what you want: suppressor, silencer, can) anyways, what they do is slow down or trap the gases escaping at the muzzle which causes part of the sound although it cannot stop the sound of a supersonic bullet breaking the sound barrier, which can still be loud enough to cause hearing damage. Also I’m not sure entirely if it helps range, if it does it’s probably negligible but it definitely doesn’t reduce range.

While it's not unbelievable for his group to have access to Khyber Pass-style talent, I imagine he likely managed to get this very nice .338 rifle from a cache or something, adding new accessories and parts to it over time until he had a build he wanted. Us Americans do this kind of stuff with pre-made parts all the time, it's why the AR-15 and Remington 700 for example are so incredibly popular.

The part where he's talking about the Kar98k brings me back (and I mean way back) to when I played WaW zombies with a marine in active service at the time He mentioned that in one of his engagements an insurgent was using a 1903 Springfield rifle. Once they got the bad guy down they checked out his little hiding spot where they found more WW2 era weapons. MP40 and an M1 Garand that only had 2 spare enbloc clips. From what I recall what the marine told us (in game chat) they did take the guns back to base.

Although he seems to be decently knowledgeable, I wouldn't call him an expert. When he sees the .338 he comments on how weird the rifle looks, but it is likely just a chassis. I just went shooting with a guy that had a Ruger Precision rifle with a "tactical" chassis. Edit: he also calls the M-14 a semi automatic firearm. The M-14 is actually select fire. Also the fact that he is confused by it having a traditional red dot kinda bugged me. The select fire M-14 is a battle rifle, not a marksman rifle.

Actually, its quite plausible to find WW2 weapons in today's battlefield. A buddy of mine was in Basra back on '04 and were working with the anti-fedayeen forces, and according to him, one of the guys was carrying a MP44 with the stock removed. Also, if an enlisted takes a souvenir weapon, its looting, but if its an officer, its a war throphy. Funny how it works...

The MP44 is the STG44 right? Isnt the recoil spring of that weapon inside the buttstock? The fact that everybody believe the whole “silencer” stuff from Hollywood is funny to anyone who knows anything about firearms, suppressors aren’t really helpful unless it is long range (snipers mainly) and in anything close range really only allows less effect on your hearing, like not needing to use ear protection. And none of the people who use suppressed weapons use subsonic ammunition which would help with the suppression of the gunshot.
@hazepheno925
@hazepheno925 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on the gun, caliber and load (Subsonic?). 300 Blackouts suppressed are stupid quiet. I've shot one AR15 in 300lbk with a 10.5" barrel and probably 6"x1.5" suppressor, where the bolt cycling is louder than the round, no hearing protection required. Of course you sacrifice velocity and energy with Subsonic loadings to keep it under the speed of sound and not get the Crack-a-lack. About 450 ft/lbs of muzzle energy with Subsonic 300blk, barely above 9mm +p muzzle energy. Where a typical 308 Win load you are in the area of 2800 ft/lbs of muzzle energy.

The attention to detail in MW2019 by the team at Infinity Ward really is incredible. The way the guns look and feel...just a fantastic job. Should be the new standard for the series.

Would really love to see Johnathan do an episode over any of the Metal Gear Solid entries. Kojima was one of the first to put real world guns of various types with detailed descriptions into his games.

There's loads of Kar98k's used for hunting in the country I'm from. They're usually polished up and parts are switched out, but they are still very much in use.

8:10 So I've done my own research as to what the closest real world equivalent of this weapon (The HDR) could be and based on the caliber, design esthetics, and the regions of which MW take place. I found that this rifle matches up closest to the Russian LOBAEV ARMS, DXL. There several variations of the DXL (2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, & 10 M2) but as far the I can tell the HDR is a custom variant of the DXL Ultra Long Range Sniper Rifle line fitted to use .338 Lapua Magnum for the campaign and 12.7×108mm for Multiplayer/WAR ZONE. The closest DXLs in terms of look esthetics are the DXL-2 and DXL-4. The front grip of the weapon is the only anomaly as it looks very similar to the one on the Azerbaijani Yalguzag.

I actually like the on screen reticle for the grenade launchers. The way I see it is that, in a lot of cases soldiers that are well trained with grenade launchers rarely need to actually look through the sight aperture. They can eyeball the distance and angle and it really is amazing how accurate you can be by just eyeballing. The on screen reticle is like a representation of that for the player. Once you get used to it and hop of realistic you too can just eyeball the distance and angle

I got the Mk.XIX D-D-Deagle with the integrated muzzle brake/compensator ports, specifically for _more_ concussion. It gives those shorty ARs a run for their money! Post Script: Using the grenade sights is an exciting prospect, one I've wondered about for many years now! Just the ability to utilize the elevator of any iron sights, grenade or otherwise, is something I want to see, particularly for older settings like WWII where the irons are your primary sighting system on near every weapon.
