Let's be completely honest. Kiefer Sutherland plays snake EXTREMELY well. The only reason people are a little nervous is because David Hayter has been playing snake since 1998. Most people don't tend to like change (myself included) but we needed a changing point for Big Boss's voice from Peace Walker (David Hayter) to MGS4 (Richard Doyle) to show progression and I feel that Kiefer plays him very well.

Hayter = Solid Snake Kiefer = Big Boss For me, Hayter will always be Solid Snake, no doubt about it. But for Big Boss, it always felt out of place for me, and I don't know why. I felt like it was kind of unnecessary for Hayter to voice both Snakes, because they were completely different characters. I've seen people throw around the whole "Solid Snake is a clone of Big Boss" crap and they never actually stop to think that Liquid and Solidus sounded nothing like Big Boss, and even in MGS4 Big Boss sounded nothing like Old Snake, so it literally makes no sense. Kiefer is great as Big Boss to me, I just wish they gave him more lines. If they do remake every game on the fox engine, (Please do), then they should keep Hayter for Snake but have Kiefer redo Big Boss's lines in Snake eater and Peace Walker.

You know what's really strange? Long time ago I had this weird thought that Season 7 of 24 was very similar to MGS4. Jack Bauer was in South Africa and there was a Private Military Group, a government conspiracy, a secret group giving orders to the president, betrayal, base sneaking, interrogations, and Jack injected himself to stop seizures. Even Naked Snake's nickname is JACK. Now Kiefer Sutherland is doing the voice in MGS5 and it's just blowing my mind. I'm so freaked out by this. It's a different Snake from Metal Gear Solid, so it makes sense to use a different actor to portray a different Snake. Kiefer does a fantastic job. :D But David was the "icon".

As painful it was to me, I have finally accepted Sutherland as the new Snake. I totally understand the "tactical" decision made by Kojima. In The Phantom Pain Big Boss comes to life after a long coma. There is a phenomenon of people who had gone such things as some of them live total change in their personalities.. .. and in some their voice changes. If you listen closely to Sutherland's tone of voice he's capable of delivering that groaning voice and it would be good to see a new take on it.

I never doubt Kojima as a developer and game designer, which I am aware is a dangerous belief to have especially in this day in age as a consumer, but he has never let me down. Initially, I had my doubt as to the replacement of Hayter's voice, but now I am more in tune with the creative notions behind this design decision. I also have a few theories regarding Hayter, mostly that he'll still be a voice actor in MGSV, just not as Big Boss, but someone else. If the game's length goes forward a few years after what we've seen in trailers, it is entirely possible that we'll be seeing Solid Snake as an adult, which would very likely mean Hayter does have a role, just not as a protagonist -- remember, in MGS4, they did not have Hayter voice both Snake and Big Boss, either. I am very impressed by Sutherland's genuine expression of his perspective on our medium. He doesn't try to bullshit us by saying that he loves games and all that PR crap that a lot of other voice actors do (and in fact, that even Hayter did). He was invited for a project and jumped on board and, judging from the few soundbites that exist, it seems he has done a terrific job. Also judging from his work as an overall actor in other works, I have absolutely no doubt that he will be dedicating to understanding Big Boss as a character and doing his utmost best to deliver a brilliant performance. In short, as a very hardcore Metal Gear Solid fan for the entirety of the series' existence, I am fully on board with Kojima's decision to cast Sutherland as the new Snake. Shifting from such an iconic voice as Hayter's performance is a very hard thing to do as well as a very ballsy thing to do. But it wouldn't be Kojima, had it been otherwise. Looking forward for this masterpiece.

So he was trying to be replaced everytime. Keifer was not a “oh I have to have him” it was a “if David is gone, then I can Finally use Keifer” no disrespect to him though he did great

Kiefer Sutherland Big Bos acting hasn't been revealed fully but whatever little i have heard so far has impressed me alot and it's much better than having David Hayter with his emotion-less voice especially in this game where Big Boss will have a darker personality and won't talk as much as he did in other games , instead all focus will be on his face expression and his emotions .

Wrong. Kiefer voiced both the actual boss and the medic. Listen to the truth tapes. Kiefer voices Big Boss in those as well as the other one. The medics vocal cords were probably surgical altered to sound like the actual Boss, if that’s scientifically possible.

Big Bosses audio tape at the end of the game that Venom Snake was listening to was some of the best dialogue that I’ve heard throughout the series. It was at that moment that I knew.. Why does everyone think that Kiefer is voicing Solid Snake? He's not, the main character is Punished Snake, aka Big Boss, aka Naked Snake. Big Boss wasn't voiced by Hayter in MGS4 (that was Richard Doyle). They're trying to make Big Boss sound a little older.

I like how Hayter isn't Big Boss. If you are smart enough, you'll realize that in MGS 5 or maybe 6, Big Boss will meet Solid Snake. (assuming Hideo Kojima will re-create the Metal Gear NES version) If Hayter voiced Boss and Solid Snake, the battle between the two snakes would be two David Hayters talking to eachother. In the end David Hayter kills Kiefer Sutherland. That'd be awesome. I hope that'll happen.

Sutherland > Hayter....Hayter was great, not denying it but he was starting to dwindle by MGS3 and he was just awful by the time Peace Walker came around. He was good but his time was done. Sutherland is a great choice for Big Boss. That being said, I do think he's great for Big Boss, but only Big Boss. David Hayter will always be Solid Snake.

Kiefer Sutherland is Big Boss for me. The role really needed someone else to voice it imo, and I completely align with Kojima's reasoning. And Kiefer did a phenomenal job with the voice and acting. On the other hand, I can't imagine Solid Snake being voiced by anyone but David Hayter.
