*UPDATE* - Minor correction... I call this machine a i5-2400, which is what I thought I took off the shelf. Turns out this is a i5-3450. No real difference in terms of the PC, other than 1 gen newer and about 8% faster in performance than the i5-2400. i5-3450 - ebay.to/2mDkfTq i5-3470 - ebay.to/2nysNA2 i5-2400 - ebay.to/2mDktde i5-2500 - ebay.to/2mUxcdv *NOTE* - I will be comparing this in a future video soon to the i3-8100, Ryzen 3 1200, and the old, but new again Athlon X4 950. Be sure to watch for that video! *NOTE 2* - This is the first video I've recorded with my new overhead microphone, notice I don't have a mic on my shirt for the first time. The audio isn't great, still working on how to set that up perfectly, but hopefully this isn't too bad. :) If you'd like to skip directly to the upgrade guild itself, click here: 5:29

I don't have one that will fit, that is overkill, and that isn't what is being tested in the R3 1200 and i3-8100

I liked the audio on this. It simply sounded 'natural-ish'. I dont have a word for it. The overhead scene simply felt like I was standing in a open room with you. Great for a sub-optimal setup!

I've seen people complaining about "only" being able to afford a 3rd or 4th gen Intel core i5 or something similar. I always want to tell them to shut up because I'm only rocking a 2nd gen i5. Broke as hell and probably gonna take me a year of saving up to get to a newer platform. Playing Witcher 3 on an i5 2400 with a 1050 2GB. I'm super happy. Some people just feel too entitled. This right here, though, is the deal. Get a pre-built and just slap in a couple new or slightly used parts. I see too many "budget build" videos that put it together brand new and don't really see the level of awesome the pre-built method gets.

You still have a better CPU than my i3 6100 ;( I wish I went the used route when I built my PC, because I had an i7 950 laying around, but I thought it was trash because it was so old... I plan on upgrading to icelake/Zen 2 2600 in 2019 though :)

I know that you wouldn't normally suggest putting a newer card in such an old machine; however, it might be better justified if you consider that it adds more life to your older rig, making it last longer, and the card can always be moved to a new build at some later date. Very decent video and I'm looking forward to your future comparison video.

In May 2008, I had done a DIY desktop build with a Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6, E8500@3.16GHz (later upgraded to Core 2 Quad Q9650), OCZ 2x2GB DDR3 Platinum 1600MHz (upgraded to total 8GB), 2-ATI HD 3870 in CF (later upgrade to HD 6870 CF, now using a single R9-280X), Zalman CNPS9500AT cpu fan, Zalman ZM850HP-850W powersupply, in a Thermaltake Armor Plus (VH6000SWA) full tower. Still runs and functions very well but overall about 2 1/2 times slower than my newest DIY rig build in Feb. 2015 (Gigabyte GA-Z170X Gaming 3, i7-6700K@4.2GHz, Adata 4x8GB XPG Z1 DDR4 2800MHz, 2-GTX 970 in SLI, Corsair RM850i powersupply, Corsair H60 AIO cpu cooler, LEPA Lenyx LPC801A-B Full-Tower, Windows 10 Pro.) The only thing I cannot use my PC for is 4K gaming otherwise nearly 4 years has passed and still as good as any new PC on the market here in 2019. No one needs a new PC each year, just something you can make minor UpGrades to and it will last you 4 to 7 years before you need to purchase a new PC. In 1982, I had the Commodore 64, in 1983 the Apple IIe Pro system, (decided against the IBM PC Jr.) and the Apple IIe lasted me until 2001 or 18 years. Due to the advances in Personal Computers with MS Windows 98se and Netscape and the World Wide Web, it was time to get into the game. In 2001 bought a Compaq Presario that had the 1st Pentium 4 cpu with RAMBUS memory (too many problems), in 2002 bought Compaq Presario 5423US and later did my 1st DIY build in May 2008 already mentioned above. Save your money and invest in Do It Yourself builds about every 5 years which you can Upgrade without doing a major overhaul and wasting money. Things haven't changed that much cause my 2008 rig still has a couple years of life left or maybe till 2020/21 cause I can run Windows 10 with it and obtain updated drivers as long as Microsoft supports Win10. - Word of advise "New isn't always better" as AMD, Intel and nVidia keep putting stuff out that isn't any improvement from the previous and they're asking you to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars for a small and rather insignificant gain as what the company is gaining is your hard earned money and laughing at you. Recommend that your next pc is a "DIY" or purchase a custom build from a reputable computer customized building company just be sure to buy their warranty and that they are responsible for S&H.

Something like 25-40 Now i am short on budget so i decided to upgrade only on GPU.. Precisely the Zotac gtx 1080 mini... And this video has reassured me of my hypothesis. Current config on which i have completed AK and play rocket league type light games flawlessly Amd phenom 2 8 gigs ddr3 ram Radeon hd 7750 2 gb... Lol Gtx1080 mini will be arriving soon.. Will update about the performance bump. PS: I love TD videos very much.. Simple.. Very elaborate and very good guidance... Also i like ur simplicity bro.... There are still a lot people that believe that when a pc is 2 years old its already crap 😆 I even rock the 1st gen i7 870 in a optiplex with a 1050ti and 16gig rams + ssd. Cost me under 350 euros and I play games on medium or max settings 1080 resolution just fine with 60+ fps. Its still really a fast pc while that i7 came out like 8 / 9 years ago. And that on the oem 280 watts psu 😂 my older pc with a core 2 duo + 330mb 8800 gtx is a 800 watts machine with a lot less computing power 🤣 Ive bought a second optiplex sff for a media center for just 150 euros , its a great media center pc for the money. Upgrades like cpu etc are so cheap , I can get the i5 650 for 15 euros hahahaha cant beat that price

My Corsair HX650 power supply lasted 5 years of being on nearly 24-7 for about an hour of standard computer use a day. It has recently died and was turning the computer on for a second, then turning it off. A new EVGA power supply fixed the problem. I think the Corsair has a. 7 year warranty on it so I may try to get a replacement. I go with Seasonic or EVGA power supplies for all my builds now!

Right up with my system! I have a current i5-2400 on a h61 M/B. My biggest issue is I got too basic a motherboard orignally as I would like USB 3.0, (just as you mention the add-in USB 3.0 card!) Sata 3.0, RAID and perhaps overclocking. SO I may aswell get a new motherboard although its more of an outlay as I need RAM, M/B and CPU all at once.

Runs everything I wanna play in 4K still, League of Legends gets 110FPS Maxed in 4k, everything else I wanna play runs mint in 4k too, my old system was a 6700k water cooled, GTX 1080, 16Gb ddr4, 256Gb ssd, 2x 3Gb hdd, EVGA 650w PSU, ROG mobo. I can honestly say to anyone looking to downgrade to do it if you think you don't need that power, there is nothing my new (old) system can't do that I need it to do, but to be fair I do most of my gaming on my Xbox One X in 4k (Don't hate me lol). good luck to everyone out there having fun with their PC's, Great Vid by the way, SUBSCRIBED!!

Have to agree regarding the GPU by taking an old workbench PC and a couple of upgrades to ram and power supply and sticking in a 1050ti or 1060 you would get pretty reasonable performance at 1080p. looking forward to the benchmark on a 1070 another great video from tech deals

I know its not a 1070 but the evga 1060 sc 6gb is single fan and short, such that it would fit that case perfectly. Pretty much my favorite card in terms of size vs performance. As always, great video.

I need to sleep but tech deals videos are not to be missed. Any decent i5 machine from gen 2 sandy bridge onwards with a HTX 1060 grade gpu will be a great gaming pc. But sadly i still stuck in the Q6600 era of CPUs.

I wouldnt go the used route with a budget of 600$ dollars sure the gpu will be lesser but the benefits of modern cpu arechitures might be worth it. I would go used for 500$ because at that price point your looking at dual cores or ryzen 3. I would go optiplex 7010 or 790 series over the 3010 its cheaper and is usally more accessible pop in a gtx 1060 or 580 me 580 its faster gpu just pick between those two, then pop in a new ssd and psu and bam way better.

Hey Mr. Tech Deals. Got a question for you. I have this exact computer. Let me give you a run down of the current specs I'm running. Windows 7 professional, Service Pack 1, Interl(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40 GHz 3.40 GHz, 12.0 GM of (RAM) 3 sticks x 4GB sticks, 64-bit Operating System, and 931 GB of Hard Drive. Also Just got the VGA 500 B installed as well as an msi gefore gtx 1050 ti. I have the stock fans as well as I believe These two upgrades have been awesome and I actually bought them before I even saw this video so I am really glad I bought the right kind of upgrades lol. Anyway my main reason posting this is for my question being... What is the highest potential motherboard I can fit into this computer that is 100% compatible.

Nice video..needed to know a little more about the cheap i5 dells...good job and to add. For this build i would lean toward the 1050 ti with the 16 gigs of ram and a samsung evo ssd..perfect for a run of the mill pc

Hello Sir, I have been watching your videos on KZbin and I have decided to build my first budget pc. Below are my components Intel - Pentium G4560 3.5GHz ASRock - B250M Pro4 Micro Corsair - Vengeance LPX 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory Crucial - MX300 275GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Zotac - GeForce GTX 1050 2GB Mini Video Card Cooler Master - MasterBox 5 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case Corsair - CXM (2015) 450W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply I am using the stock fan. What do you think about my components. Is there any part you think I should change? I have also notice so people glue the fan to the cpu but I didn’t see you doing that in some of your videos. Who is that? I also got this compatibility notes “The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with a SATA 6.0 Gb/s port. When the M.2 slot is populated, one SATA 6.0 Gb/s port is disabled.” Does it mean I can’t use M.2 SSD card. Do I just go for normal SSD which kinda clear the issue? Many thanks Email: goshbellos@gmail.com

if your going to get an OptiPlex i suggest going for the i7 4790 non k configuration. That cpu can pair with a gpu as strong as GTX 1080 and have good frames. minimal bottleneck.

I really like your videos, and, I thought this would be interesting as in the summer my version of the PC in this video failed and I considered upgrading along the lines shown in this video. But I didn't, as in researching the topic i got the bug and I ended up with a Ryzen 7 1700/1080 system partially based on the recommendation of Tech Deals. However, this video left me thinking yeah and so... Maybe I missed the point or maybe there are follow up videos. But this one basically seemed to show how you can get an enthusiast PSU into your Dell and how you can force a GPU into it that you wouldn't recommend putting in it anyway. Analysis of the financial pros and cons is what i was expecting but didn't get. This is what Tech Deals does best. So why not do a cost benefit analysis of upgrading an old Dell against the other options. I'd enjoy such a video and I think many others would too. Just to conclude I love your work, so think of this as some constructive criticism on 1 video. PS if you've done such a video already apologies...

Wow, thanks for the video! I just got one of these, put a SSD in her, I'm going to update the power supply, stick 32gb of ram in her and run Access databases and Excel workbooks off her, I think it will work great for that, I'm not a big gamer, I don't see the need for an expensive gaming card. Well, maybe just to have one... so for the money would you recommend a 1050 or a 1060? And, on those cards do you have to go mini or can you just stick a regular card in?
Yes, You CAN Build a $200 Budget Gaming PC!
