@@mistergat8625 2500k is still fine with an overclock but personally i'd get a 3570 since i dont want to overclock and it has a slightly higher peak frequency than the 2500k unoverclocked.

Sandy Bridge user here! This was the first CPU I had when I started getting into PC gaming and slowly upgraded to the Xeon E3-1230 (i7-2600 equivalent). I still saved my 2120 for an Optiplex SFF that I use for light eSports LAN parties, but even for Halo or Doom, I didn’t know it could handle those titles relatively smooth. Recently built a PC for a friend who's PSU had crapped out in an older Alienware rig and killed his 3770k. I used the 2120 as a stop gap for him whilst he waited for more money to get a new chip, and he's still using it gaming everyday a year later with no real desire to spend on a more powerful cpu

The gta5 thing is odd and I stand corrected on my comment in the last video, I used to main my 2120 in my optiplex 790 I had back in 2017 though, paired it with a gtx 950 and could play at 1080p low/medium. It also was pretty good at Fortnite and Paladins

Early i3's are great for running Windows XP though. Turn off hyper threading in the bios, and run all those older games better than you ever did.

I have an i3-2120 system I've been setting up for a friend who had his gaming system die on him. I've actually been testing it by running World of Warcraft on it (WOTLK) using just the iGPU that's integrated into the i3. Works really well actually. Great CPUs, these things.

Had one of these in an Optiplex 790 SFF from 2012 to 2016 paired with an HD5450, I stopped using it because I got a laptop and the house I just moved to didn't have any good areas I could have my setup. From Janurary to Feburary I found it in a box covered in cords and took it out to use (since the latest laptop I had was and HD620 and i5 7500U ), I did have issues with it getting to display so my brother thought it would be a good idea to chuck it in the bin. I wanted to try one last time to get it working so I took it out and replaced the RAM and chucked in a gt 630 (hanging on the side as it's full size) and played FN at 70FPS on %49 3d res. Now wit ha GT 1030 it sits by the TV in my space and I use it occasionally to play Minecraft or TF2.

The i3 2100/2120 is still my goto choice for a budget work/family pc (no gaming) . The pentium G620 is already sufficient , the i3 is another step higher to be sure. Can pick it up for 3-4 euros. Hd graphics 2000 will play/stream full hd just fine with other programs in the background, and play oldskool games. Max gpu id pair with it for games would probably be gtx 750 ti

@@Techwen when i had the pentium g4400, when i played gta v if i didnt set the frame limit to 30, it had a lot of stuttering and fps drops, set the frame rate to 30 maximun could help in some circustances with a old cpu and shitty cpus like the 4400

@@N3xlow With artificial limits such as a frame cap, it wouldn't matter what card he used. He even put it in low resolution to prove that point. If he's pulling under 60 in that scenario it is definitely because of the CPU when his card is capable of probably 200+fps at 1024x768.

I have that CPU in my Lenovo Edge 71. The system had 8 GB 1333 MHz RAM and a GT 450 which I bought as well as a 750 watt PSU that I squeezed in. Last month I bought 16 GB 1600 MHz RAM, a GTX 1050 and 2 TB SSD. I also bought an i7-3770, but the motherboard (Sandy Bridge) wouldn't run it (Ivy Bridge) despite flashing the BIOS. Oh well, I'll give it to my nephew.

Today 2020 Nov, i am still using i3 2100 with 8+2gbram (upgraded from 2+2gb) and GTX1050 to play all my games with 720p. It is still very smooth to play APEX, GTAV, Ark Survival, Dying Light, Dota2, CSGO This is enough for me and i don't need to change CPU at this moment, since all the game i play run smooth. i just need to clean fust for my CPU sometimes.

Are you using HDD? Loading speed are more on read speed of storage not CPU so having a faster SSD will eliminate slow game loading and background loading

Just noticed the i5 2400 has double the l1, l2, and l3 cache of this chip, that's about the only difference besides core clock and count between them. Wondering if that's why the issues are still there but less prevalent. It would make sense as it ties into the "CPU working harder to swap stuff" stuff I babbled about on the other vid.

I build a cheap PC that had i3 2120, GTX 560 Ti 1GB, 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz I got 60 fps AVG with 41 FPS 1% lower in GTA V. Settings where 1080p everything normal and sliders (distance, population etc) turned down. If You'll find time to play around with sandy i3 again, I suggest setting ram speeds to 1600 and moving those sliders down. I also wonder if You have 20 GB DDR3 maybe Your system does not run in the full dual channel but it's some kind of async mode. GTA V is very sensitive to memory bandwidth and there might be an issue there. Thumbs up for i3 2120 content one of my FAV CPUs

Weird to see it struggle this much in GTA. I'm using this exact CPU and at Normal settings FHD it runs just fine. I rarely ever encounter stuttering and it's been quite a while since I've had textures refuse to load.

It doesn't have hdd and ram as well, but I brought it for only $22. I found a 4gb ddr3 kingston ram right after for only $8 and my friend gave me 2 additional 1gb ram sticks. I think that was good enough for the price I got it for
